  1. Re:Just How Much Worse Can It Get For Microsoft? on 360's Backwards Compatibility Weak? · · Score: 1

there's a lot more to a good console than just power.

That's a funny statement in this context. Because Microsoft pretty much told us the exact opposite until the time Live was actually launched. They played number games all because they could to the general public. The computer savvy know that a PPC CPU at 433 MHz was basically on par, if not better, than a Celeron at 733 MHz. But if you can throw that your processor is nearly twice as high as the competitor's to the general public, they'll eat it up. It was so out of hand that the president of Tecmo was claiming that the GCN could never run the original DOA... and that game wasn't very impressive looking.

I haven't made a decision on the Xbox 360 yet. I wasn't an adopter of the original, but I admit there are some pretty good games for it.

I also assume I will buy Revolution, as I have bought every other Nintendo console. The announced features also have me intrigued.

But I can tell you right now I won't be buying a PS3 for that estimated price of $465. I was fairly outraged when I could only buy my GCN for $350, and that came with 3 games. Let's say you want to buy a PS3, another control, and 2 games. What's it gonna cost? $465 + $30 + $50 + $50 = $595. That's just outrageous for a console.

And like the OP said, Nintendo has always had custom hardware made. I'm sure by now it's not very hard to fit an NES or SNES on a single die, and possibly even an N64. I assume it will be able to play GCN games because the hardware will be similar enough (PPC CPU & ATI GPU).

On another thought, is anybody actually sure what Nintendo's process of publishing a game entails? For all we know, they own source code to the entire back catalog of games that they can recompile and allow us to download.

As far as I remember, Nintendo was always a tease at any press conference. They never really show you what's going on, or tell you what's going on before hand. The perfect example being last year when they showed the new Zelda trailer with no warning. Then they gave no actual release date or details of the gameplay. Nintendo is always a tease.

I played a semi-aggressive paladin for 59 levels. I could deal with the fact that I wasn't doing the most damage. After all, I could usually heal myself to no end. I'd have paladin vs. paladin duels that could easily last 10-20 minutes. But once I was engaged in any dungeon raids or PvP encounters, my role completely changed from a minor melee player, in which I could stun and sleep a few players, to a secondary healer and buffbot. The only reason to have a paladin in your party for any of these encounters is buffs. My role completely changed from what it was for levels 1-59. I would have been happy if any groups didn't yell at me if I got close to melee range, but that wasn't the case.

Since you must put the videos and MP3s on a MemoryStick first, I'm not sure the hat trick will be so nice. I got a Clie recently, and so far I've gone through 2 MSs that will read just fine in the Clie, but won't read at all in Windows, whether by PCMCIA drive, or Clie->cradle->USB connection. The only way I can get it to work is cradling it, then loading up fdisk on the drive so Linux knows that it has a partition on it.

Not to mention the fact that there are MagicGate and non-MagicGate sticks, which may or may not be able to be used with certain MemoryStick drives. It just seems to me that those things are too much trouble to begin with to make many PSP users worry about getting it to work.
