you need money, so you need to start saving up to buy a lot somewhere, then you need money for advertising, then you need money to buy low end parts.
So, here's a plan: start your store up as a kind of computer thrift store, and rebuild old computers and everything, sell them for low cost, and accept donations, and contribute a chunk of your profits to some noble cause (such as cacner or opensource, etc) and eventually start building your own quality line of computers, that will start having their own part of the store.. and while you're at it open a small coffee shop area that allows people to browse the net at a small fee like most net cafes, do things that bring people to your store, then wit the more money you get, open more stores, and then just keep it all up. get contracts with companies like bawls and get some vending machines and snacks people can get, soon you'll have a place that will appeal to your hardcore customers. namely the gamers and the geeks.
is the year of NASA so far.. on friday, stardust succeeded in the main objective of its mission.. Saturday, mars lander lands successfully.
2 days in a row of good luck, that's good signs for them, in more ways than one.. many politicians are probably impressed right now, and that usually means more cash for the space agency, and with the space race being re-kindled, we're going to se a lot of cash flowing into NASA soon enough.
oh, and I bet the spririt will find the beagle...
it'll more than likely be wandering around in martian traffic, or get run over by the spirit.
well, they've had their cars so long is because 30, 40 years ago, GM, chevy, etc actually meant quality.
they found that people were able to maintain cars for long periods of times, so start making shoddy parts and you'll keep buying more shit, then eventually, you'll buy a new car, whcih will die in 5 years.. then another.. and another.
what does this have to do with anything on this topic? it's the fact many "bargain" brands do the same thing "ok, $30 for this feature filled dvd player with a 1 year warantee!*"
*hardware not expected to work past 1 year, 2 months.
I once had a really great sega genesis controller, it was some third party, it ran well, and it was $9.99. compared to the $19.99 controllers (note, this was years ago obviously) anyways, it worked great for a whole 90 days, but mysteriously, 5 days after the warrantee expired, the controller completely stopped working.
I pop it open, and notice something in there that isnt in the sega default controller: a diode that had nothing to do with anything, but it was connected to the main input on the board. took that out, controller was functional again (sort of) but since I lacked a soldering gun, and was using a twistie, I just gave up on it, and used another brand of controller, which is still going... I think it's buried in the closet someplace.
lesson here that most of us should know in computing: if it's too good to be true, it usually is the case. and there's the overly expensive category, where you're getting ripped off.. Most of us here should know that there's always a median price range to look for and a quality to certain products.
Basically, dont buy a videocard, or TV from some strange named generic sounding company, the results wont be pretty. (though sometimes you find a diamond in a pile of coal)
"ABCNews recently profiled the project (with video) and also rode along with a working prototype built by Honeywell that successfully kept a Beechcraft from hitting a mountain."
woulda been a bitch if the prototype didnt work as planned.:P
you forget that microsoft is also losing ground due to their oversaturation of the markets.
the one hidden beauty to a capitalist market is if you manage conquer all, you'll find out that you're fucked, because competition is what keeps you in business. because you'll gain money, if you dominate, no matter how much is paid, you'll lose money, and the economy you're under will plummet in value, and you could have as many people under your thumb and basically make people slaves to your product, but your own success will be the end of you, especially considering the fact is the US economy falters, many other economies in the world falter, you'll lose power over night, no place to move your hq, and if you could afford moving at this point, and you'd be screwed because of all the people coming after you to lynch you. chaos breaks out, the end.
sounds a bit extreme, but that's how it goes if bill gates was able to monopolize almost every market in the US (which he's trying to do, in technology at the moment, but we all know that) if he just monopolizes the tech industry, he'll falter because that's the only market his company specializes in. but that's where taking over other markets falls into place, if he manages to take over other markets (impossible in his life time, but then again, it only took less than 10 years to create a monopoly of most of the tech industry) it could very well be the end of him, it's like a man grasping onto dry and brittle vines as he escapes quicksand. he took all the ground out from under him, leaving a soggy mess, and grasping for something solid which only is destroyed in his grip..
it also might be bad for us, but unlike him, we can recover.. something like this would send a message to companies showing that a company doesnt run an industry, but the consumer does, abuse or try (or force) the consumer for granted... and you'll get stung.. it's that old saying... dont bite the hand that feeds you.
and if linux gets deemed illegal, people can always take a "legitimate" copy of it, or the sources, modify them into "legality" and create a new kernel, and the apps that are used in linux would still be useable.
you cant kill creativity. so those who srceam gloom and doom about linux, you're partially right, linux itself would die, but not its spirit, it would just reincarnate itself in another form.
and that's a big IF, because sco doesnt even have a leg to stand on, and if sco does win, the case can be re-tried again in the supreme court. and if that happens, someone should go to the news stations and show how unfair the legal system is, that is, if the news media isnt forced to shut up about that... but still go for it, show them a juicy story about the legal system choosing to side with someone who didnt have any proof, just hype and litigation, while the side that lost, had all the proof in the world, that would look really bad for many politicians. microsoft wouldnt get stung, but sco would have all to lose in that..
SCO would lose either way if all is done that way. not to mention they've already lost ground with the market that supports them... either way, when they return from their holy crusade, they'll find the community that gave them their existance wont be their to heal their wounds.
so really, no one has anything to gain from the loss of linux. because in the long run, everyone will get screwed... linux is needed to keep microsoft on the market.. without competitors, microsoft will only be able to last so long until they falter, and take down the economy with them. like I said before, People who are creative and who are resilient will always come back. the economy can come back, linux can come back, but companies like microsoft that are static in their ways will not come back from their own destruction, unless they pull and IBM, and also start being more honest. (which we know, is impossible)
that linux will get some steam, but will face new legal concerns, IBM and sun will be sued by microsoft for imitating their gui, then gnome and kde will be sued in the whole ordeal, apple turns around and sues microsoft ripping off NexT
might not be that far.
but I predict this year will be the year of tech lawsuits as a new major player gets involved in the market.
I wouldnt be surprised if the GPL got overturned and claimed invalid by a well paid judge.
the shit with SCO last year might prove to be the stone in the pond that started the ripple effect.
It wasnt just a bad movie, it was also a bad book as well.
too much ascii art for my tastes
but anyways, they'd launch these sphere-like objects to the very edge of the thermosphere (right before you get to it actually) and bring down atmospheric samples, anything that might be able to thrive up there... one probe crashed into an arizona town, two guys come along, find the probe, then some old guy in a robe kills them after they noticed no one else was alive except him. etc.
that was just about the climax of the story... at the very beginning, then it slacked off and looked half-assed after that.
it was this attitude about the suckerfish (which was ok in the depth of water the reserve had) however, someone felt that the level of water was not enough for the suckerfish, so farmers and an entire town's livelyhood were destroyed over adding 3 feet of water that the damn worthless fish didnt need.
this is a lot like that. "let's stop using wind energy because it kills 22,000 birds in 20 years!, let's use coal and kill 70,000 a month!"
and then, the recent fires we've had in california, that's due to enviromentalist idiocy as well, "dont cut any trees, dont kill the bark beetles!"
bark beetles are destroying the forests, and leaving thousands of dead trees that will go up faster than 2 week old christmas tree. not to mention, the forests are too dense, so when a fire does happen, it makes them unstoppable, I watched as the local mountains got burned, and the fire got bigger and worse, until we got a lot of rain.
it's stupid and according to enviromentalists, we should live in teepees and eat nothing, sing happy songs.
if this happens again, just send orbiting probes above mars, and if those disappear, obviously, we're not wanted there, or we're not meant to be there.
at least get the ISS finished up first and work on that moonbase or the earth-to-space elevator thing.
nasa and other agencies are so disorganised.. it's like they're now just throwing darts on a 3rd grade level space map.

is actually possible.

well, fuck.
nevermind that then.
I hate it when things in computers have the same initials.

I'll leave it at that.
also, before this turns into a debate, that doesnt mean that it's immune from a well paid judge by say.. microsoft.
I'm not saying it's immune, but it'd be questionable if it got struck down..
that's when you create a new license.. or use another gpl-like license.
that, and it's also OSI approved, that might not mean much, but the OSI has set nearly all the standards in computing and network.
so if the gpl did get struck down, that would be like saying the osi's standards are all wrong.
Jituxramon GO! USE YOUR STUN SPORE!
sorry, couldnt resist.

is because we dont even have 56k in some areas still.
not to mention we are barely venturing into dsl, cable and wifi.
this country is more economical than technological.
so it's who ever demands it here.
our govt is interested in two things: Money and killing people, and pushing its influence everywhere.
over pollute the rivers, or collect the carp and dump them in the tennessee river in the US.

oh btw, teepees are usually made of cowhide.
holy men have created a DeDaemonator to rid those boxen of little satan men.
in seriousness, the same thing could be done to bsd so linux would be installed..
I feel the OS wars rekindling on a new level.

It prolly got hit by a car.
damn those martians and their space cars.
In a Forbes magazine article IBM promises polymer memory that's five times cheaper than current flash memory
but will be five times more expensive in the stores
good 'ol marketing.
