I'm not worried about movie quality because I dont burn movies... however.. the double layer burners will be nice, then I can back up my hard drive in segments, or back the whole thing up and compress the image... comes in handy.
first, they live in a smaller area, with less people compared to the US, where we have more people spread out over a large area.. and their services are government run and operated IIRC.. so, they're gonna get a better service for lower cost. that and it's not as hectic to keep that speed since they only have to do it over a small area. south korea isnt that big, and japan is about the size of california, so to compare the US with 2 relatively small nations is an understatement. if we had that kind of throughput here, we'd be paying 500 a month. and it isnt so much the evil telecoms.. hell, I'm not even averaging in what the telecoms will charge... I'm putting in just the basics.... they have to have the backbones to do it, the manpower to install lines that can handle it, have repeaters installed to extend the service into an area that's farther from the CO, etc.. we have tons of hurdles to jump.. hell, we're still far away from getting the country connected to broadband.. there's areas that still dont offer modern dial up services still. Japan has it easy because they have so little area to cover. The US, we have billions of square miles to cover. that's somewhat why we're still stuck back about 10 years with broadband... it's just not a feasible technology to have going at that rate for the common household yet, when it becomes more common (like dial up is.. yeah, dial up is still more common than DSL or cable) then the price will drop. and since japan, it prolly got popular right away, it kept a low price.
would be feasible... but not for, say, the whole country... at least no right away... start simple, start within major cities... between nearby large cities (eg, LA to San bernardino, or San Diego LA San Francisco Seattle, WA) stuff like that. that would work nicely.
a fortune500 can steal your data.. republish it.. then scream it's theirs and you stole it.. and you can get in trouble, and there's no way in hell you're gonna be ale to scream it's them, becuase a) they have money b) they have money to get the best lawyers c) they have money to drag a case on until you're broke.
with these new planets forming, one day (assuming we're still alive and havent killed each other off like morons) we'll be receiving radio signals asking if they're alone or not in the universe..:P
according to the commercial, microsoft hires a buncha people who are obviously doped up to run around in slow motion, screaming, jumping into each other into your work place...
or are they selling a new drug?
they use brainwashing at a very basic level.. show a buncha people happy and feeling good, then flash your logo, instantly, you get this thought in your head that "hey, it looks like a great product! those people are happy!"
why slap us americans? why not slap the government..
I dont see the masses here saying "Hey politicians! please force europe to let you jam their technologies!"
we're already getting bitch slapped by the corporations and the government combined... last thing we need is crap from another country..
I'm tired of going into chatrooms and getting flamed over something president bush did as if I had personally given him the order these people forget that it's not by the people and for the people over here anymore.
What I see wrong with the opensource community is that the developers, at times.. think too much like developers and what they only see as fit for a common desktop user.. people bash kde and gnome to death, saying they suck, and tel you to use a nice simple wm like blackbox, or waimea.. or something someone from windows isnt familiar with..
my issue is the attitude with the whole desktop setup for linux.. the developers think of what they would want in a desktop (except the developers behind kde and gnome.. they're hitting it pretty much on the head) but a lot of distribution makers, when they create a desktop system.. they just pop in gnome and kde.. then they include hundreds of apps you'll never use.. and documentation that only techies can really understand. This is why linux cant hold ground in the desktop yet instead.. they put more eyecandy into things and hope it sells iself..
wont work.. you gotta create a system that works well for the common user.. it's not like you're going to use it yourself.. that's another thing I get off of people.. they go on like THEY have to use the system, so they bash the idea or distribution that has been made easy because it's a "n00b" system.. thing is.. you want a "n00b" system because that's who you're trying to attract.. people who are new to linux.. you need a system with the bare minimum installed..
another issue with some desktop linux systems, is the fact that they're usually based off of one of the bigger systems, like redhat or mandrake, and use rpm.. which doesnt offer change nor innovation.
Microsoft is known for slowly backing out of punishments, or does pay people....such a politicians to look the other way.
and seriously, has microsoft ever done things the legal way? no, but they have done some legal things.. but based off illegal actions. they dont like following federal law, but they sure like using federal law against its own consumers. when I first heard M$ was supposed to send out money.. I laughed, because I knew they wouldnt do it. Also, if they did pay the settlement, they'd lose a massive chunk of cash,.. which they wish not to do. so really, they are like "hmmm, no, dont wanna do it. we dont wanna lose money. and federal law doesnt apply to us"
also, they'd prolly jack up a licensing fee in the next windows release... and require you to pay like 700 bucks for the next windows release.. preinstalled or not.
kidnapping and murder will only arise from this. because if theifs want your money, theyll either cut your arm off, kill you, or kidnap you. at least it'll make ransom easier..
"I WILL RELEASE...fuck it..." *scans the person's arm and shoots them instead*
fuck, they're doing what I expected.. they're gonna try becoming monopolies legally and take over the market permanently, and force people into buying only their music. greta, they're gonna ruin music.
wonder how long until this becomes a new fad, wonder when microsoft or sco are going to press for an anti-antitrust bill so companies like them can become a huge ass monopoly.. now, I feel, the legal system is truly going to hell. before, it was fucked up, but if this passes, the domino effect will start, very much like the copyright domino effect. where everyone is copyrighting random technologies just to control them. now... we have this. I feel this is only the beginning to the new form of government in the US...Corpocracy.. the United Corporates of America, UCA. think that sounds funny people? good, because soon, you might have to say it.
This is all because Bush is too busy playing in his sandbox. With this Recent FBI expansion move... I have a feeling now if people dont want RIAA music, men in suits will be at your door, asking you why havent you bought any music lately and throw you in prsion for being a terrorist to the corpocracy. We need to write to people who care, start an anti-*aa petition while we still can, or an anti-monopolist petition and get this shit known, because it's only a matter of time that these companies will be more powerful than the government.
Communism and totalarianism wont use bombs or missles or guns to take over, they infiltrate, brainwash and climb to political power, they use society and politics as their weapons. and sadly, it's beginning to look this way.

hopefully they go off into the sunset and we hear a gunshot.
I'd personally love to dress darl up as a yellow dog, and spray foam on his mouth and re-enact the scene from old yeller for kicks.

you get the idea.

they refer to it as an instant messenger...
it's a VOIP client.. the creator of gnome meeting has even stated this.

that's another scary thought.

"Like, Totally relax man... it's all good!"
no, because his car's computer system will do that for him.
(see yesterday's slashdot about computer systems in cars)
no, but it's pretty useful for logging your suspicious non-american activities!
and the FBI!

you can always use a fuel cell and rewire the apartment.
however, hydrogen is hard to come by.
or, save up your money and go by a townhouse, or condominium, or buy a real house. one or the other.. the latter is probably the best solution
well, if I can get some of that diamond that circles the second sun that was once jupiter, then I'll be fine
