is that broadcasters decide what quality they want the Mpeg-2 compression to be. I don't remember the numbers but apparently cable broadcasters compress HDTV signals much more than over-the-air broadcasters. You can tell by the bit-rate of the stream.
A couple of things that I didn't see in this cards softwaare was "Display Bit-rate" and "Save video in original stream format".
All I can suggest for anyone buying HDTV hardware is to do a heck of a lot of research.
The post says that we are not going to have radio communication in a certain amount of time, but what about the prolipheration of wi-fi and cell phones? If I'm not mistaken this ain't just a couple of bugs talking in tin cans with string working for us.
Yes it's unfortunate, the radio pollution we cause and I do hope that we switch to laser everything but the current trend definitively does show more radio and not less like the blurb states.
You also forgot to mention that as the way we feel changes, so does the amount of frames per second.
In a game where there's a sudden situation that freaks you out, you tend to notice the separate frames, but as you're hopping along looking for victims, 60fps doesn't seem as jittery.
I imagine it's the same with tv and cinema, in movie theatres I always see the frames until i really get into the story and think about it, other than that I always see the jitteriness just as on DVDs (in a different way) and on tv in Europe (that bugs me a lot).
But yes, I really do think that we don't actually always see the same framerate all the time, it changes depending on the moment and the person.
That's why we need a nice high framerate so that everyone can enjoy.
Really, have you tried 160Hz on your monitor? It's beautiful and less stressing for the eyes for some reason that I have no idea.
I wonder how well it would have fared if the same amount of time spent on building the fright simulator would have been spent on their flight simulator.
from a nap on the sofa to lightning and thunder just in time to hear a pop from my bran new 486-66 and then the electricity went out.
I went back to sleep and when I woke up I heard the sound of the phone being off the hook. It turns out the relay on my modem had blown. Everything worked except that whenever I had to use the net I had to manually put the rj11 in the jack before dialing as the line was picked up immediately.
Also on an A7V mobo, got home after a lightning storm and the PC would no longer boot. removed the jumper for the onboard audio and everything was fine... except that I only had one audio card now:(
a job recruitement agency would somehow hire a "great hacker" to work on a small project with the applicants personally before submitting their CVs to companies who hire.
Of course, if you read the article this idea is full of obvious flaws and would be near impossible. It doesn't remove the intrigue though.
oops, this is a new os install and I forgot to login before posting. I'm not usually anonymous and not always a coward. Oh and my computer is a screwdriver:)
we spend our time sitting around fires listening to the wise ones of the village telling many many stories of 2 girls living with a guy who has to pretend he's gay because the landlord doesn't approve of such nonsense. If it weren't for the stories, we'd like have to make up stories like this, heck maybe even make pictures to go with them to make them seem more true.
...corporately(you know how money mongering is money mongering anywhere). For the rest, it depends where you are in Canada.
East of Ontario, people are extremely sociable and close. Southern Ontario is exactly like the Eastern US(not much more to say there), and West of Ontario, are there people there?(kidding)
For the places that I've lived in the West, it's hate or love, if it's not one or the other then you really don't exist in their eyes except if you cross the street, cars will stop alarmingly even if they're not even close to you.
But hey, honestly what you see in a place is what you make of it. Cool people will find cool people and the challenged will find the a*holes.
One thing that is pretty nice about everywhere is that the new generations have almost no bias towards different people, they've learned to dislike people for their individual qualities and not as a group... that's cool in my book.
We don't need Star Trek to go back, closer to where we are now because this is where most scifi shows and movies in the past 10 years take place. Does this region of time still seem like that "fantastic future" that used to make sci fi something?
From what I remember, Star Trek was a way to see things with clarity without preconceptions, stigmas, conditions and feelings that may be a little biassed in one way or another compared to our neighbours across the street or world.
But, with every new show it, this piece of the puzzle becomes less and less important.
What we need is a trilogy or something (can they make 3.14 movies?) to move the current time to 4 or 5 hundred years after Voyager. (heck, why not just move Archer, the ship, the crew (and the show) there (haha)).
That would give the stories more chance to breathe and maybe give some power to whoevers job it is to shoot down stupid ideas that are there just for ratings and not to make the story better.
That's my rant if you can call it that.
Dan
(also... is it me or are the scenes of the shows getting darker and darker as they come out? kinda sucks)
it would be nice if the format can be accessed and used by the gpu directly, lots of potential there!
out of order data for the cell phones of the future that will map the area around us into 3d data and upload it to an open server. The server would be serving a live 3d world representing the data from the phones. It will let everyone vitually be there through a first person view on their pc.
When the resolution is high enough to make out distinct features of the people that are around downtown for example, it will be like the pc users are ghosts, they are there but no one can see them.
what else... finaly mainstream 3D GUIs?
tutorials and howtos for hardware installation may begin to be in 3D where you can move around and check things out like it's real before you open up the box for that hot new 64/384 audio card.
I think that everyone has that insight, it's just that it's not always easy to stop the concious analisys of something, anything, whatever happens to be going on at that moment.
Also, tv doesn't help, neither do all those bad things that all the religions talk about, they seem to diminish the trust that the insightful part of you has in your concious.
7MB/s is pretty darn close to the limit of 100Mb/s. notice the difference between B and b... unless the math people have changed something, like adding few new numbers between 7 and 8.
(insightful???!)
from what you have written, you don't sound like someone that should be taking care of critical machines (ie. where money is dependant on the machine... your reputation probably exists because of all those stupid little things that need tweaking to work in windows (it's true that after awhile you really do understand what "List all modes" means). Ok, so I'm ranting but you really don't sound like you know your stuff or else you would have said at least one technical thing instead of (it's too hard).
Yes, it takes a better "computer person" to get linux up and running on desktops and servers, but once it's up there it stays.
Don't take my comments that you probably suck personally(I'm in a mood but I still think you suck), but if I were you I would at least start learning some scripting so you can create your own complex and high loads... as for the desktop, I suggest that after you finally master it, go and master a word processor with lots of colours and use simple words and short lists. Tape it to the side of their monitor... you will see that it won't take long before people will figure out that on a Toyota the wipers are on the right and on a Honda they're on the left.
the quote for the decade of 94-04: after talking coding and design with 5 people where 4 have varying computer degrees, it's only the social impact that was imprinted on them from university that gave away who was who. Technically, there was the same percentage of those who can memorize and those who can understand.
cheers
If I were to use a lathe, would I be able to patent the settings that I apply to the lathe so that it can perform in a certain way?
I know that I can patent the physical end product, but if these types of patents are not possible, why should how you configure a microprocessor to function be any different?
I know that works that come out of this can be patented, like music, drawings and works of text, but is source code a patentable work of text or is it the configuration of the tool that is being used?
Now that's another one that does the same thing...
a paraquote:
"there will be devastating destruction, everything you know will be crushed or burned or blasted into dust, nothing will be able to exist...............(long pause with lots of cool graphics) in a million years"
I think you're confusing Socialism and Communism. Anyways maybe I'm totally ignorant but I like to think that Canada makes a recipe that uses ingrediants from all the different political systems.
it is possibly a quicker way to get to India to bring back spices.
I may not have thought about it enough but

the only technical way that I can think of is to start a new email protocol with all the sauces but to receive an account you must go through the same process as getting a phone number(without actually paying something, it would come with the net connection from your friendly neighbourhood ISP)
This way spammers can be found and taken to court if they send to someone on a do not call list (like phone spammers). The details about signing can be taken care of by ISPs. The problem is that it would have to be a worldwide thing.
One advantage is that people could actually sign up for certain types of spam (something for the money people to chew on)
At least this way one could decide to receive email only from people that allow themselves to be identified by the receiver.
Personally the way that the telephone system works isn't so bad, I don't get many sales calls, but maybe that's just me.
A couple of things that I didn't see in this cards softwaare was "Display Bit-rate" and "Save video in original stream format".

I would rather play with a card that has a lower average but has a higher minimum which occurs usually at the most important times in the game.
I know, "do it yourself". Well aren't the benchmark sites looking for new ideas? Come on!!
That means they'll get it, what, July 30th?

that's gotta be at least worth a 4 "insightful" no?
I'm writing this when there are already over 1000 messages here, does "lowest common denominator" mean anything anymore?

Is it possible that face (or whatever) recognition algorythms could benefit from this?
Could this be the beginning of lossy compression for text?
