I'd like to thank Blizzard for making a server wide event that opens an instanced dungeon that 2% of the player base might get to. Sure, there is also a 20 man AQ instance, that maybe 8% of the player base will see. (It's on par with zul gurub). So instead of making another instance like Upper back rock spire that everyone can do, they continue to cater to the EQ fans who like 4-8 hour instnace runs on saturday nights.
As a result, players are asking anyone who wants to join a group to type one or two sentences in English. If the sentences contain spelling or grammar mistakes, the player is rejected.
Unlikely, since so many players can't speak english correctly as is.
Since you have to join groups to complete certain quests in WOW, this is presenting many Chinese players with a serious problem
The main problem I've found when grouping with gold farmers to low tier end game dungeons (UBRS and under) is they will ninja your loot. They have a quota to meet, they aren't there to gear up for MC, they are there for a job. While someone above posted a cutsie story about a chinese gold farmer not understanding what to roll on and what not to roll on, the majority of them will ninja you and know what they are doing, and will have no problem laughing at you afterwords.
Plus, they are all rogues, do you really need an extra rogue for your pve run?
I know that they aren't near as popular as they once were but isn't it because the consoles can do things just as well as arcade games now? Arcades keep trying to adapt too. They've moved onto more specialized games that you can't recreate as well using a home console.
I'm not an industry person, that's just how I see it.
Having worked at an arcade for a number of years and played in quite a few tournaments, I can tell you what killed the fighting game craze. Broadband internet connections. Every gamer I knew that was at the arcade all the time in the early to mid 90's plays some type of FPS, MMO, etc online. I don't think the consoles killed the arcades, look at how long the two co-existed. I think the ability to play with other people online is what killed competitive arcade gaming which is what the arcade industry was running on in the mid 90's.
Games like DDR with complex input devices that a casual fan won't build/order at home will always have their place in the arcades, but there is no reason to go and play street fighter in the arcades, when you can play it on your xbox, or kaillara (pc) at home.
I played SWG for the first two months it was out. Although it was enjoyable, it felt like the grind was insane even when I just started out. I picked up world of warcraft recently, even though I've never played a warcraft game before and knew nothing about the story line. The gameplay was so good, that I've been playing it since January. The best part is, the first 20 or so levels a character makes are very easy.
Are there any plans to make SWG easier when you are just starting out? Or to make it less of a grind? The generic missions were way too boring. I also remember I had to grind up faction points just to PvP, which really wasn't enjoyable.
Regardless of their decision, the true sadness lies in the idea of what is and isn't science being determined by politicians.
Which is what neither side sees. This should be left up to local governments...If Kansas, or more specifically a TOWN in Kansas wants to teach ID along side of evolution that is up to them. People who don't like it can simply move, or vote there. The real danger is when the federal government tells us what to teach our children.
People are so blinded by the religion vs science argument that they miss the big picture, small towns...or even more specifically parents shouldn't be dictated to by the state or the feds on what their children should be taught. But, since school is glorified child care nowadys most parents could care less as long as they can both slave away for the next thing they want to buy.
If you look at MMO statistics, there are many more men playing women (mangina) then there are actually women playing. Thus assuming every female is male until you know better (ie voice verification + pic) is a good idea.
The Grind is the problem.

WoW is successful because for the first 30 levels you can accomplish something every time you log in. I realize that they follow the skinners box method of making things more difficult as you go along to keep you hooked, but I think MMORPG's will succeed when their gameplay (combat) is a compelling enough reason to play, rather than just grinding out for the next level/epic item.
The new Alliance race was going to be the Pandaren...They had them in the expansion pack already, but a few weeks before blizzcon they realized that China has a law against Panda being killed on television or in a video game. That is why no new alliance class was ready for Blizzcon.

These are just UI mods; the intention is to allow you to reconfigure your UI and see information which is given to you, but not in a useful way by the default UI. I'll take the Decursive example. Decursive looks at your party/raid, finds a debuff that you can cure, and uses the correct cure spell on that person, all with one button
Yeah, but take a paladin for example. Say im in a battleground with 7 teammates defending some point. A warlock and priest come up, and debuff/DoT everyone in my group (they are fast!). I can cleanse all 7 of them just by jamming on the decursive button seven times quickly. There is no way humanly possible you could do that without decursive. Those with decursive have a huge advantage over those without.

I wouldn't be suprised. Mods like decursive, when run by a paladin basically keeps their whole party DoT/Debuff free just by mashing a button. There are healing mods that do the same. To me, they always seemed a bit like cheating.
MMORPG's and starcraft are very popular in Korea, which is why I made my original comment. As for those who say "Who cares, they will just pirate windows", I realize they can do that but what happens when microsoft turns off all the service packs/security updates? Or there is no south korean support for Vista, and world of starcraft, or starcraft 3 comes out for Vista only? I guess they will run bootleg American versions (or some other versions), but it will still be a huge pain in the ass for a country that loves gaming so much that they broadcast matches on television.
Pretty interesting stuff, yey for linked AH's. No mention of the paladin revamp in 1.9, sounds like..they haven't started fixing the class they revamped two weeks before launch yet. The 'scripted world event' in 1.9 sounds cool though.
I'm a bit disapointed, with all this info I see nothing that makes me happy as a pvp player. I'd like to hear about a FFA pvp server type, but I don't think we are getting it.
I wonder what percentage of the south korean economy is made up of those internet cafes. Switching OS's won't really be fun for them (if it comes to that.).
Gaming is fairly big in SK also, somehow I think 'it runs on WINE' isn't going to fly.

Which is utterly stupid. Having your name changed in an MMO, in no way related to a real life name change. I don't know how pro-PC Dvorak is. He's said (at least recently) that he thinks Microsoft is "dead in the water" because they haven't released anything useful in a long time. He's also said that he thinks Apple is doing a great job and that their marketshare is going to grow exponentially.
Dvorak said apple looked dead, when they did indeed look dead. The slashdot crowd basically hates him for it, and says he is biased because he stated the obvious. Apple wasn't looking so hot quite a few times in it's existance. Dvorak writes bad stuff about Microsoft all the time, but that doesn't stop everyone here from assuming he's pro-microsoft/anti-apple. The truth is, Dvorak is a professional bitcher he complains about everything in tech. I don't mind him really, since most of the time his gripes are legit. He called this intel/apple thing years ago btw.

Heh, but blizzard changed a lot pre-launch to post launch of wow. For those that play, the paladin class was totally revamped (many believe for the worse), and a lot of balancing issues were worked out (Will of the forsaken was originally always on, Mortal strike did 200% weapon damage...etc)
Dearest Mircosoft,
While many soccer moms are probably happy at your addition of bejeweled to 360 live, could we please get some classic street fighter 2, mortal kombat 1 and 2, killer instinct, etc games on there that have VS mode online? Thanks. I'm sure I can pick up super hyper street fighter vs Snk vs your mother, but I'd really like to just play good old SF with some friends online.
Do they want moms as in the 14-30 year old demographic? That should be easy enough for them. If they want the 30+ female gamers of today, there is only one solution.
Buy popcap games. Or clone them. Same with the puzzle type games at yahoo. This might offend some, but the majority of gamers that are female and over the age of 30-35 want puzzle games and pretty much nothing else. Maybe, something like the sims could fly but it's unlikely. Most women I know in that demographic look for something with a simple ruleset and controls that they can play and move on. There are of course those 30+ females who play mmorpgs, but that is a small market compared to the snood/bejewled/bookworm crowd.
