Conflicting versions of websites. (Johnny has a verison of slashdot.org from yesterday, I have a version from today,
billy has a version from a couple hours after mine.) I am nto saying you can't figure out soime sort of versioning, or
just a simple age check, but it could pose a problem.
This assumes a regular connection to the internet. Someone, somewhere, has to be connecting to the internet more
than every few days. Without fresh meat, this loses appeal since the biggest draw for a lot of people is how fast info
can be accessed.
Bandwidth. How long would it take 2 PDAs to transfer say, 512MB of data using bluetooth?
Security. damn, this is just asking for security holes.
Which sites? Are you going to have to have a list of sites you want to download? Or would it be a thing where the
tonly sites that get updated are the ones you already have downloaded?
Very good point. I have had only one company make me feel welcome, and that is Siemens Business Services. In return, I have loyalty to them. I was laid off a few years ago, but wiggled my way back in. I am back at Siemens, working at Intel. I know that if Intel tosses me, Siemens will continue to employ me and find me somewhere else to go.
Also, they recognised my stellar efforts in previous contracts. I did some emergency contract work 3 times, and 3 times i was given a very small raise. That helped me when I applied for a position here later. I applied for one position, but was given a much better position after they looked up my history with the company.
Man I wish more tech businesses were run like this.
I might also add that I live in the 'Silicon Forest' of Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro Oregon USA. Still maintaining the highest unemployment rate in the 50 states!
There used to be wrist watch looking things that vinbrated and beeped as an alarm. A lot of people who don't pay attention to nise, wake quickly when shaken up a bit.
Very good point.
Goes to show how most reports are constructed though.

MS will continue to release patches for vulnerabilities, and anti virus companies will continue to support win98 I'm sure. So I think that base is covered.
I see a lot of things standing in the way of seamless translation.
Right now, computers talking sounds choppy and pieced together. Because it is just recognizing words and playing pre-recorded sound clips. To sound more natural, a program would not be looking for words to say, but would understand the language, and would be able to speak the language.
To have it sound like you, you would have to give it extensive training. This would have to be very thorough. On the flip side, if it was to "listen" to people speak a foreign language, then translate, it would have to be able to accept a wide range of voice tones, and rhythms, and slang. I don't know anyone who speaks perfect english with no slang.
Then of course, as has been discussed, computing power is going to be needed. I don't think a 300MHz RISC of some sort is going to have the power to do something like that in a reasonable amount of time. I can only assume that it would take both space and speed when it comes to storage. something else i don't think a PDA could supply.
The same basic problem here, causes all sorts of things. A false normality.
A smokers world is different than non-smokers in one big way, smoking. (duh!)
Non-smokers see polution, litter, poor smell, bad health decisions, and a ton of other things. smokers see this as thier normal way of life. The smoke, the stench, the yellowing teeth, all normal. Just like how popping joints can become second nature.
One thing that really pisses me off are people who smoke around thier kids. A parent holding thier baby with a lit cigarette in thier mouth makes me want to call child services. )Not that it would do any good, since there are smokers there too whpo find it normal.)
You could really take this a step farther. People who beat thier kids, shoot heroin, sleep around, steal, driving fast, and a ton of other things though.
There is no reason to think that you aren't right. If it mirrors the the telecommunications industry, in this case cell phones, it will be expensive for many years to come. But, over time those wireless ISPs will merge and then there will be less area that you're actually roaming, since it'll be the same company.
This is definately something I will be watching closely. My house is already wireless enabled, and I am dieing for public wireless to mature another level or two.
That is how it used to be out here. The coastal range was full of big game. But the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife had "hunter's choice" for way too many years. This ended this year I believe, so I hope the populations will comp back.
The deer and populations of North America are not very uniform. There are states in the east that are nearly over-run with deer, and have crazy hunts to get rid of them. But in the west the populations aren't as great as they once were. In Oregon, where I live, it's not uncommon to go a couple years without seeing a legal animal. Only seeing imature deer, or no deer at all. For that reason, I have stopped hunting deer. Just because I can get a tag to hunt these animals, doesn't mean I should.
As they also stated, this is not just for the white tailed deer. There are a number of other specias that are related to the deer that are on the brink of extiction, like the"Key West deer of Florida." that they mentioned.
My favorite repeated audio clip is the sound of the police radio. You know, the sound they Sim City 2k (maybe 3k, I don't remember) makes when you make a police station? It's in a crap ton of movies too.
The only issue with G5 powerbooks are heat and power consumption. A G4 powerbook gets pretty darned warm. The only way we would see a G5 powerbook is if they choked off the MHz in order to reduce the wattage.
A few problems with this.
The list could go on, I'm sure.

This story was painfull to think about. I am 23 years old, I have been laid off 5 times, 3 of those companies don't exsist any longer.
- Directv BroadBand
- Transport Logic (Bought by Firstworld, who is no longer around I believe)
- Encompass Telesystems (Didn't even make it to having a web presence)
5 layoffs in 5 years. I live in fear, but have become bitter and jaded. I expect a layoff to come at any time. Especially since I work at Intel now.To fill your need for higher version numbers!

Nothing says love, like a sexy apple product. ]:3)>
Finally, 5.25GHz is catching up to Athlon XP and the G4 on Distributed.net's rc5! :)
Because OSX is at a level of refinement and maturity that linux is years from reaching.
OSX, right now, is my choice for a workstation os, and I would give up tons of my personal time to help it become something even better.
Megacorp or not, I personally think it's a cause that will more directly benefit me.

First the FBI, now this! You can't buy this sort of publicity!
It's right up there with the lottery.
If I want games, I'll buy a gameboy. ]:3}>
Sorry Montgomery Burns, that would be a standard S.A.E. ton. I will try to be more clear in the future. ]:3}>

I am in nearly the same boat. But in my case, it comes down to the fact that having a portable mp3 player is not worth the price to me.
Or in other words:
The money it costs is worth more to me than the iPod is.
Fortunately I got a Nike/Panasonic 256MB limited edition doohiky. Just in time for my skiing trip on X-mas day.

Manufactured localy would mean that they wouldn't have to survive the launch into space either.
Good call.
That is why i mentioned colonization. Just store it localy. Run a cable, or do a ground based wireless relay around the moon to our side.
