Am I the only one who sees this becoming the next Hollywood blockbuster disaster movie? They've done asteroids, tidal waves, volcanos, global warming/cooling, alien invasion, and so they have to be digging for ideas. And of course in true Hollywood fashion they'll toss science out of the window for the sake of a better film.
Now there's a shock! This isn't news. Anyone who even remotely follows video games should be expecting all three companies to have showings of the new consoles at E3 next year.
The PS2 had plenty of jump on the competition, that's why they weren't buried by the other consoles. By the time that the GameCube and X-box came out PS2 had already been out for a while and was able to recover from their... pathetic start. Also the backward compatability helped them out a lot. Something that the PSP will not have and that the DS will have.
Compairing the launch of the PS2 to the launch of the PSP is, as the cliche goes, like compairing apples to oranges.
At least the mother isn't blaming the movie and video game for causing her son to pretend to be Spider Man. Instead of suing a bunch of people related to the movie and video game she's buying him the Spider Man game. After all kids have active imaginations and will play pretend and do stuff like this. And kids get into accidents like this. They'll trip and fall and other stuff, mostly not as sever as this though. The mother is handling this very well IMO.
Homeland Security says to stop using IE but in the Air Force we're still using it and I haven't heard any plans to switch to something else. It's good to know that the DoD is listening to the security measures of the other departments.
I've always wondered why the US hasn't built up their mass transit abilities on the national level.
I'm an American currently stationed in Germany and I used to wonder the same thing myself before I got over here. Here's why it won't work the same.
Over here in Europe the populations are clumped together a lot more than in the states. In Germany all the villages are pretty tightly packed. You don't have big yards, many people live in small houses that are right up against the next house or at most has a small alleyway seperating the houses. You have these little villages and then you'll have a kilometer or three of farm land or woods and then the next village. In the states everyone has a big back yard, a house, and we aren't living right on top of each other. Our suburbs and definatly our rural areas are more spread out.
It's not feasible for every village in the US to have a train station or bus stop because with everyone so spread out it might be a couple mile walk to the nearest public transportation pick up. Where I grew up, Maine, NY, I was a few miles away from the center of the town and at least 6 or 7 miles away from the nearest bus stop. Where in Germany they are never more than a half mile or so from the nearest bus stop, or so it seems to me.
And so that's my opinion of why the US cannot have a mass transit system like they have here in Europe.
It's good to know that there are people out there trying to do away with some of the really stupid patents. But what really needs to be done is there needs to be change at the patent office. If these stupid patents aren't allowed to be created in the first place then groups like the EFF wouldn't have to fight to get them overturned later.
I've never once been upset because I couldn't use any headphones with my GBA. I'll either play with the music up and playing out the speakers or I'll play with the music off. No big deal for me. Most GBA music gets repetitive pretty quickly anyway and after a while I don't mind not hearing it. But that's just me. I'm sure there are some instances where people need the headphones but it's never been anything I've had a problem with.
Dvorak is slowly becoming the Nostrodamus of the high-tech industry.
Nope, can't be Nostrodamus. There are people out there who actually put stock in what Nostrodamus predicted. I don't think anyone believes what Dvorak says. I think the better thing to say would be, "Dvorak is slowly becoming the mad, raving, lunatic of the high-tech industry."
Well if the game is good enough it shouldn't matter how well the movie does? Sure it will affect sales some but if it's one of the best titles yet for X-box why wouldn't people go out to buy it?
The same can be said for movies that are based on video games. If Hollywood were to make a movie based on some terrible video game but it was one of the top movies in the past couple years I'm sure it'd do well. I think people, for the most part, are smart enough to look at the movie and video game as completely seperate things and make decisions as such.
"I have a fully developed set of ethics. I wouldn't say my nine-year-old nephew has quite had the time to develop these tools."
Gee, maybe your 9 year old shouldn't be playing Grand Theft Auto. It's more the parent/guardian's responsiblity to ensure that their kids aren't playing violent games than it is the game makers.
No more than a few days ago I had a nice little discussion about PD:DS. It sure would be nice to see this come true.
To this day I still play Perfect Dark quite a bit. It's about the only N64 game my friends and I still play. One thing the GC lacks is a good multi-player shooter. The EA shooters just aren't as good as what Rare has made in the past. EA has really butchered the Bond games, Golden Eye is by far the best Bond shooter.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
---Hermann Göring
Yeah. I know. Wishful thinking on my part too. Dang it, PD by far my favorite game from the 64. It would be great to have it carry over. Oh well, that's life.
Okay, I do apologize for the flame comment, that was uncalled for.
The stylus is probably going to be used for games such as RPGs or turn based strategy. My guess would be that there won't be much need for a touch screen in a FPS. While it would be nice to use it for switching weapons that'd just take too long. When I'm running around I'm not gonna remove my hand from the controller for even a second. Chances are the second screen would be used for a map.
One thing I can definatly agree on you is that Perfect Dark DS would kick serious ass.
Enjoy fiddling with that touch screen (Which will be covered in grease/finger prints, try it, touch your GBA screen)
From the article(which you probably didn't read)... One of the two 3-inch screens is touch-sensitive and works with a stylus -- like Palms and Pocket PCs -- to control the action in some games.
So you won't even be touching the screen with your greasy fingers. It was a good attempt at flaming the DS. Well, maybe not...
They can't pass a friggin' budget on time for like 15 years in a row but some Senator gets pissed off by Gator and suddenly lets do something.
While I appreciate what he's trying to do there are more important things.
Nice try but WRONG. and the person who modded you up is a moron. In the IGN page linked AND in the article text it says The studio is currently creating software for other platforms.
Uh... you are WRONG. From the Gamespot story about this - "According to Eggebrecht, the only reason Factor 5 has stopped making GameCube games was that they've abandoned current-generation hardware altogether. "It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development," he said."
Now with more gangbang action!
Compairing the launch of the PS2 to the launch of the PSP is, as the cliche goes, like compairing apples to oranges.
I work in the NCC that's the sad part. But our NOSC is a bunch of Nazis when it comes to the network. They try to control everything.

IMO Windows does a good job apart from its obvious faults too.

Sounds great to me too. One can only hope. So uh... they actually talking of a PD:DS or is this just wishful thinking?

Aww... my first trolling on Slashdot. I feel so honored. Thank you, you just made my day.
