I tried the outside thing.. but I ran into two problems. First was the amount of bugs that would attach themselves to the item hanging on the line. Second, and much worse, birds seemed to enjoy using my clothing for target practice, and more than once I had bird shit on the side when I went to bring them in.
Now I just run the dryer right before going to bed, so at least it's during non-peak times.
Oh yeah, how much of the cell phone market does the iPhone have in Japan? I'm willing to bet it is statistically insignificant. I've been to Japan a couple times over the past few years and have NEVER seen a smart phone. Everyone I saw while commuting either had their head buried in a flip/slide phone or a DS. Granted the flip/slide phones in Japan are much more advanced than the ones we can get in the US.
First of all smart phones (as we in the US know them) are almost non-existant in Japan. Secondly, gaming on smart phones is not very enjoyable or easy unless you have tiny fingers. Handheld gaming devices are designed to be more comfortable to hold in a gaming position.
If these solar cells end up being cheap enough I would imagine them being worth the cost even in a location that doesn't get intense sunlight most of the year. Put them on mobile stands and once summer is over, store them in the shed.
Just upgraded to XP SP3 last week

Time To Dump XP?

Around the country we probably have about 2000 work stations and SP3 was just rolled out last week. Oh, we are still using IE6 with no plans to upgrade.
Don't get me wrong, I like XP and plan to use it at home for as long as I keep my current computer... but IE6?!? That's just nonsense.
Eh, not saying it can't be fixed but some buddies and I had one figured out at a Dave and Buster's... I think we hit the jackpot 60% of the time and racked up a ton of tickets just prior to 'cashing out'.
If there had been a rash of burglaries in the area, it's a completely acceptable police response to the guy being parked there. It's being proactive and actually attempting to catch the people doing it. Most burglaries aren't solved, sounds like they were at least trying to put an end to it.
Not all cops are out there to make your life a living hell. You'd be surprised how well being civil to them works if you get pulled over.
Don't they freeze distill "ice" beers (like Ice House), just not to the extent of reaching 50% alcohol. I just assumed "cold filtering" was basically the same process which seems to be common.
I don't think the link I posted was clear what her prior "offenses" were, they could have been more serious than a simple facebook message. I completely agree that getting fired for a facebook comment is too much but considering she seems to have a history of being punished, I can't come out and say the city is right or wrong to fire her.
Ahh yes, because now we're all experts on the case and are 100% sure the dispatcher did nothing wrong and the city is completely to blame for this wrongful termination. Let us harness our nerd rage and harass the city officials because we think we know what's best for the world.
Sounds to me that even if all of her comments are jokes, she is stupid for pushing the line repeatedly. Not going to agree or disagree with her dismisal, but she doesn't seem to have much common sense.
I got pulled over by a rent-a-cop (was in an apt. complex) years ago for driving the wrong way on a one way street. I told him I never saw the sign and asked where it was, he pointed to the sign sitting at the end of the road that is only visible if you enter the road from the correct direction. Then I just said "that's stupid, I'm going now" and pulled away.
He'd probably taze me if I did that now... oh for simpler days.
Wasn't it Hilary Clinton leading the way in the 'think of the children' laws a few years ago? There's quite a bit you can blame on the far right, but thinking of the children has been one of the few topics that has been bi-lateral.
Not every company holds features out at the beginning and adds them in later... if you are willing to pay for the next generation device.
You don't find it weird that 1st gen Apple devices usually lack basic features that competing devices have had for awhile? Every product they have it's been night and day between the 1st and 2nd/3rd generations. Maybe I'll buy a 2nd or 3rd generation iPad, but I'll never pay for a 1st gen Apple product.
I'm going to feel just a little bit sad for the owners of those million iPads when they drop the price and kick out the next version in 6 months. They'll be outraged, but Jobs will just say "hey, at least it wasn't 2 months this time!"
Not only that, the next version will come with features that should have been included on the 1st one. Apple always fucks over the early adopters... yet they keep falling for the same trick every time. I know if I ever had the urge to buy an Apple product, I'd wait til the 2nd or 3rd generation. By then the price would have dropped and the list of features would be more in line with the price. This is why I told my gf to not buy an iPad yet... probably get a better one for half the price in another year.
Thought experiment: If some punk kid had accidentally disabled some hundreds of thousands of computers(along the lines of that old accidental self-replicator worm, or something), what parts of the book would they be throwing at him right now? Are McAfee's actions just a desperate attempt to keep some of their burned customers, or do they fear something more serious here?
I'm guessing he'd have to pay some form of restitution, just like what McAfee is doing.
150k per person who listened to it
Just think if we could sue any company that provides a product/service that could potentially used for illegal activities...

We had a homebrew tool created by a guy in our department that we lovlingly named "FART" Forecast Analysis Review Tool.

If it's freeze distilled, I don't see why they can't do it. All they are doing is brewing a normal beer, then removing some of the water.
You think it's bad on /., do you check cnn.com often? I swear they have a new article gushing over anything Apple puts out every day.
If the sun missed it's last "cycle", maybe one of the "probes" used to "explore" forgot to use adequate "shielding" and now the sun is pregnant.
That the "ubutto" distro?

Same thing happens if you travel to Japan. I would say it's pretty common around the world now.
knowing my luck I'd try to grow purple pokeberries but those would get choked out by grass :(
You think these students could have done it so 'cheaply' without Asimo leading the way?
Not a chance. Not to mention the technology is a couple decades old now.
Cool project for college students, absolutely. Ground breaking? Absolutely not, unless it fell and cracked the floor.
I'm guessing he'd have to pay some form of restitution, just like what McAfee is doing.
