The 5-10% was a number given to me by a GameStop employee. It's possible that the number was just for that one store; it's also possible that I was lied to. That wouldn't be the first time that's happened.:)
I wish I could find published data somewhere that would support that figure; alas, I don't think that information exists, or is accessible to me if it does...
GameStop retail stores recently stopped selling most of the older generation games. I went into a GameStop today, and they had no NES, SNES, Genesis, or Dreamcast games*. None at all.
I've heard reports of these older used games making up 5-10% of a store's sales. This may seem small...but think about how little the stores give when you trade in these games. The relative profit on a $3 Genesis game is far higher than for a $20 Game Boy Advance game.
Why, then, are they getting rid of these games? One of the biggest reasons is space. These cartridge games take up a fair amount of room that newer CD-based games just don't. If they don't have enough room for the actual games, where the heck would they put the boxes? It's far easier for the stores to just toss the packaging. Depressing, but that's the way it is...
This one still puzzles me - the Dreamcast isn't that old, and I know there's still demand for DC games. Oh well...

Frovingslosh was modded "+5 Funny" for his comment about water...and then it came true.
The parent to this comment? Also "+5 Funny" (right now). How long before they discover the Marlaphants?
Everyone in my family owns their own Memorex CD player, and they all work perfectly. Hell, I dropped mine on my floor a few weeks back and the top half of the player fell off. It was put back together, and it works just like it did before it broke.
Beyond the fact that they're durable, they're relatively cheap. Most of the Target stores in my area have portable Memorex players for around $40-$50, with the slightly more expensive ones including a backlit screen and a digital radio tuner. I'm not sure how much they run in other stores or online; you'll have to do a bit of research to check.
And lest I forget...they work. Very well. They have no problems with reading CDRs or playing MP3s, though I'm not sure how they handle CDR/Ws.
Yes...and that's what we thought about the Goldeneye codes. What year were those found in? 2000? 2001?
And in Banjo-Kazooie for the N64 - anyone else remember the day that we FINALLY learned how to get the eggs? Sure, they might not have done very much, but they were in the game...
Let's not give up just yet...I've got a feeling that the codes are, in fact, in the game somewhere. It's just too bad that it'll take another five years to find them.:)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the land is virtual, can't the developers create as much (or as little) open land as they want to? Meaning that everyone in the game could possibly own their own continent, server space allowing?
Seems like a bit of a waste of money to me...unless the developers won't be creating more spaces for privately owned property.
Most likely caught up in some kind of copyright hell. The rights to just the Marvel characters are split among at least three companies (apparently, EA, THQ, and Vivendi). It's likely that the rights for the DC characters are spread out similarly.
Right now, the closet thing we'd be able to get would be a (very ambitious) Freedom Force mod. Heck, for all I know, there's already one out there...
Serious answer...I'm 17 now, and I was still in elementary school when the original was released. I ended up getting a knockoff that featured Looney Tunes characters, and you could have up to four of them alive at a time. I'm assuming that the babies would live in the same unit as the parent.
As much as I love them, the puzzles in the Lucasarts adventure games might be one of the single most obtuse things I've encountered in my life.
Use the shadow of a talking skull to talk a bride into rejoining her jilted groom? What?
And let's not forget the breath mints from "Secret of Monkey Island" - poor Otis...
The puzzles do make sense, and are completely logical...after you solve them. I can't complain, though...the games have been great for years, and will hopefully continue to be.
Now we can have Washington, Lincoln, and...um...Fillmore all on the same coin!
No...but it's an example of what EA can do...and has done before. The fact that people would actually believe this is not a good thing...
I wish I could find published data somewhere that would support that figure; alas, I don't think that information exists, or is accessible to me if it does...
Just wait...as soon as you hear their poetry, you won't be nearly as welcoming.

Ironically enough, the parent to this topic was modded as "Insightful" as well...
Mortal Kombat, now starring George the Gorilla.
Go, George, beat the crap out of that Paperboy! FINISH HIM!
Fallout / Fallout 2 combo pack for $2.50 at Target this summer
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, also $2.50, also from Target
All of the multi-game packages that companies release to get more bang for their buck. EA is the best example of this.
Patience is a virtue...and it saves you cash, to boot. :)
Nah...let's not go there. How about we just call it Sim Video Game?
Only on Slashdot would a comment about Alyson Hannigan be modded as "Insightful." We're all such geeks...
Seriously, there are other women out there. We have no chance with her. Give up already.
I just think it's dumb to make your primary computer stop working, even if it's only partially disabled.
How about making your computer malfunction on purpose?
Just some more proof that yes, we ARE all crazy.

Hope I've helped.

Talk to the public that's already shown animosity to the plan! Great idea, guys!

Do you mean this link?
I'm sorry...I couldn't resist. :)
Want to call? Call collect from a pay phone. Now that would be fun...

And yes, you're right. I DO have no life.

Ladies and gentlemen...the Man Who's Never Grown Up!
