I saw the movie in its first thetrical release and was simply stunned. I was sitting next to an NYU film student and we both felt the same way. The film was and is a masterpiece of visual art.
I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and just have no room for piles of books. I read a lot and mostly on my Pocket PC (I currently have about 30 books on a CF card at the moment). The books are all stored on my HD for re-reading. No dead trees.
Music, once a large part of my life, has been relegated to background. I read a lot and when I have the time watch movies. I have not downloaded a music file for quite some time.
Since I don't believe Sci-Fi writers are prescient, I think this is another example of scientists thinking that something they saw or read about would be a cool thing to have, so let's invent one.
A video game is NOTHING like real driving. Send him to a school like Bob Bondurant so he can know what to do in cases of skidding, crash avoidance, etc.
Personally, I too use separate devices. I have a phone that lets me make calls (with almost no other features) and an old Axim 5 PPC.
I like to read and storing 30 or so books on a CF card takes almost no space. I vastly prefer to read ebooks because I just dont want the clutter of books around the apartment. Copies of the books are on my HD so if I want to re-read something I just load it on my PPC.
I read a lot of magazines and science fiction and find it very convenient to just lug around a book when my PPC fits in my pocket.
There are a couple of services (too lazy to post the links) that offer full movies to download that fit on a 128mb cf or sm card. I already have used my ppc (Axim 5 ) to view movies on the small screen. I also don't need 20 Gb to hold more than 2-3 movies at one time, so I don't see the point of these $800 gadgets.
I'm an old geek, not a AMD fanboy, and have used AMD processers since they first were available. Why? Because they were reliable and always, at least to me, provided the most bang for the buck. I also wanted something not everybody else had.
I liked AMD over Intel because it just seemed to me they were an honest outfit-giving the consumer what he wanted at an honest price without the hype of Intels advertising. When was the last time you saw an AMD commercial on TV?
Funny, but that seems to be exactly what Queen Isabella did to Columbus. The ends of exploration were always wealth in one form or another. Do you actualy think that 15th century Italy was concerned whether the Earth was flat or round?
Reminds me of the time that a friend of mine (back in the late 60's) took a Chevy small block and put it into an old VW Beetle. It couldn't go around corners very well, but could out drag anything else I knew of. Only problem was: the aerodynamics of the VW caused it to take off at around 130 mph. At a curve the thing still wanted to go straight and tried to mate with a telephone pole. Believ it or not, my friend didn't even get a scratch.
OK, it MAY BE a little watered down recently, but, it is still on of the few things I still watch on regular TV. IE I watched 2 episodes of "Friends" and gave up.
There is in fact some debate that scientific advancement comes from people reading about gadgets in science fiction and going on to invent them because "that would be a neat thing to have"
OK it's a nifty phone with all the features enabled, but $519 who the hell needs it?
To paraphrase an old quote: God made men, but, computers made them equal.

Hawking will prove that sound is stored in Ogg format and everything else in DivX

There's a ton of other factors to. That's supposed to be "too" doesn't anyone know how to spell anymore?

Going from point A to point B rarely involves a straight line.
I'm 57, a pharmacist, but I wanted to be an electrical engineer. I'm just glad that people won't put up with going to India for their prescriptions.

Hey, I'm 57 and no longer buy paper books because I have no place to store them.
