What a load of utter bollocks. If you have done any travelling while not under the safety blanket of a mega US corporation you will realize that it is not entirely safe for Americans to travel outside of a few countries, ironically the safest for you is Canada. You stand a much greater risk of getting raped, robbed or assaulted in the good ol' USA. If you want proof perhaps the tale of a mass kidnapping in Gaza a few months back. A bunch of Westerners were kidnapped, demands were made and of course the American among them was threatened with death. Funny little note, when the kidnappers went through the passports of the unfortunates, they came across a certain passport, apologized to the victim and made sure he was released ASAP. Guess which Passport he was carrying? That's right, Canadian. Your passport will get your head chopped off and the video of it on the net, mine will get me a coffee or tea, a tour of the countryside and the request that when I get back to look up his cousin Ahmed in Toronto to say hi.

Think about it, if it truly rained alien microbes then this is great news for humanity. For one it proves life exists elsewhere. Plus it provides a rather simple solution to how we came to exist on this planet, without involving The Big Angry Dude in the Sky. Finally since we are not all dead, and for that matter exist at all, it shows that whatever out there is and has been taken into account by our immune system. Thus making instellar travel if it happens just that much safer.

First of all Beta was not cheaper than VHS. One of the reasons BETA failed was that SONY was charging way higher royalty payments for the rights to make it then JVC was for VHS. The real reason BETA failed is a classic in business history. The story goes like this. When they were deciding what sort of cartridge to make for the then brand new concept of a VCR the Chairman of Sony decided that the size of a tape cartridge should be the size of a paperback novel. Thus easier to store in a bookcase. The engineers at JVC decided to make the video tape cartridge the size required to allow the recording of a full length movie. Sony's first BETA tapes were too small to put a full length movie on just one tape. They later developed thinner tape to allow for a longer length in the cartridge and the ability to put a full length tape in your VCR. Unfortunately for SONY it was to late and they blew their chance to dominate the VCR market.
