On September 1998, Yamaha shipped a firmware update to their CD-R400 Drives that was infected with the virus. On October 1998, a demo version of the Activision game SiN that was propagated by users got infected due to contact with an infected file on a certain user's machine. That company's infection came from a group of Aptiva PC's shipped by IBM during March 1999 with the CIH virus pre-installed.
Perhaps anonymous travellers need to set up a network of volunteers to ferry them around like this. You just pay for the gas and maybe a stipend for the help. It might not be the cheapest way to travel, but you should be able to move about the country fairly anonymously.
If the customer doesn't have either the original media or a new purchase of the media, I will not be doing any kind of install, period (we're talking Windows).
Why not? With Windows 2000 and later, the serial number is physically placed onto the computer in question. You can install the same OS from any media without violating the license agreement by using the number on the Microsoft sticker attached to the case.
Don't laugh. Think of me when you're having the best sex of your life!
Now thanks to your Jedi Mind Trick, the next time I'm in the throes of wild, passionate love with my significant other, suddenly, to her chagrin, I'll start screaming:
Sorry, but I don't see your point. So outgoing raw socket data must be UDP, and the source address must be your NIC real IP, not spoofed.
Steve Gibson went to talk to Microsoft when they decided to put full raw socket support into XP. When they refused to take it out or limit it to Administrator only, Steve put a rant on his web page predicting total collapse of the Internet. The point is that now that Microsoft has made changes to raw sockets in SP2, we're wondering what Mr. Gibson is going to say.
Yes, clearly. Americans need to be afraid of MORE things. Since cancer, terrorism, guns, murder, disease, nuclear (nuk-you-lar) war, security levels blue through hot pink, killer bees, and France aren't scary enough.
Don't forget phobophobia. That shit scares the bejesus out of me.
Each wireless sensor will operate for years on a single battery charge, but for the future, GE is working on new technology that could harvest the vibrational energy of the motor itself to power the transceivers.
This is pretty sweet. This way, you don't have to waste more energy by putting a transformer onto the motor's circuit. The best part is that it uses energy that you're normally wasting anyway.
I've been seeing a couple of complaints here that IBM had plenty of time to evaluate this with the release candidates and beta versions. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they did, and are still holding off because they did identify some issues (as the article said). I can't imagine that it will take IBM too long to roll this into their next set of XP disk images, and get SP2 out on their corporate update servers.
IBM is being prudent in this case, because of the issues they identified with well known applications and their internal applications. I wouldn't be surprised if the are also holding off on the update until some of their internal applications are updated. A large portion of the company probably relys on these applications, and updating would cause too much downtime. They probably identifed the issues with these applications during the SP2 beta cycle, have updated them, and are beginning the process of updating images and rolling them out.
That being said, I'm wondering if we'll start seeing announcements from other companies that are doing the same thing. I'm thinking that HP probably has as many PCs if not more than IBM.
I'm downloading XP SP2 on a Mac right now, directly from Microsoft's website.
Well, knock it off!!! Let people who can actually install it use the bandwidth.
Sheesh, I don't go around downloading OS X patches for the fun of it. Fucking Mac zealots!!!!!
Yes, and what's worse is some manufacturers have actually shipped products containing viruses more than once!
In 1992, IBM accidentally shipped 500 PCs carrying the Michelangelo virus.
And in 1998, they spread the CIH Virus:
I love having viruses pre-installed!!!!A 25 gallon or more is recommended for plecos, IIRC. They can get pretty big, and can be aggressive, so you might have to move him at some point.
Congratulations on your momentous achievement! I am simply awed. ;)
(You're still a dick, though.
There already is one. It's called a TAXI.
Sure they do. For instance, Harvard Square in Boston is a huge freak hotspot.

And here I was worried all this time that Daikana II wasn't going to make it to market! ;)
I can see the full page ad now:
Uh, suck it down?...not getting off the ground makes it difficult to crash.
Now thanks to your Jedi Mind Trick, the next time I'm in the throes of wild, passionate love with my significant other, suddenly, to her chagrin, I'll start screaming:
Thus ruining my chances of ever scoring again. Thanks a lot, jerk.Hold your tongue! We do not mention the name of the Defiler of Great Works here!!!!
What the changes made to raw socket support in SP2? Uh, no.

That's a bizarre comparison.
Burt Ward and Bruce Lee actually worked together when the Batman series was used to launch The Green Hornet.
Mitnick and Parson have probably never met.
Don't forget phobophobia. That shit scares the bejesus out of me.

Why are there Windows zealots that reading the Apple section????
Sheesh...
Because, it's smaller than XP SP2...
I can't believe I thought that capitalizing and bolding the clue that the post was a joke would actually help. :P
Well, knock it off!!! Let people who can actually install it use the bandwidth.

I for one, welcome our new vagina-bearing overlords... (Sorry, you had that one coming...)
I don't want to think about what that looks like.
Keyring for Palm OS is a program that allows you to store passwords securely on a Palm OS handheld. It is released under the GPL.
The program can also generate passwords.
Well, at least you're not bitter about it.
Me too. I got all my shots through the same hole, though.
This is the result.
Ok, yeah I'm not calling myself an IT Profesional anymore.
My business card now says, "Burger Orientation Specialist".
You want fries with that?
