And it's different because it is optical. Graphics tablet mice are passive, they could never generate a beam and tablet mice i found to not have good accuracy compared to my optical mice.

Except that if one party decides to ignore that state, the other one can go in and campaign without being too challenged, thus swinging the vote and getting several extra votes, thus both parties would need to campaign to keep the status quo.

Because proportion would matter, an extra two EC votes in one state is just as important as two EC votes in another. You would have to campaign in your seats to try and increase you percentage, your oponent's so decrease his lead and in the swing states to get as many of them as you can, As opposed to the current situation where a strong state is basically ignored.

But LotR wasn't a major brand before the movies. It was kind of popular, and quite a few people would have heard of it, but not many would know it at least not compared to a big francise.

Because it was small scale it wasn't on the watch list of the big execs, so they didn't appoint one of their formulatrons to lead the project and create a nice, demographically tested derivative of the books. Jackson was a fan who also had the talent, meaning he not only could make a good job of it, but who had to for his own sense as a fan.

Unfortunately Star Trek is firmly in the grips of people that lack both talent and passion, and if they do move on to other shows, they will be replaced by similar people who can be trusted not to upset the status quo. This isn't going to change until it nose dives in the ratings. After 5-10 years it would be open for someone to come in with a new idea, unobstructed by people scared of changing their formula.

Perhaps another way would be to have a runner up college. Like in the Olympics where the best runners up get to go through, thus helping to adjust for any uneven heats.

If this runner up EC had maybe 10% of the votes, the leftover votes from each state get added together and the EC votes are shared out proportionally.

This way states that are strong for either candidate don't have the position where opposition voters don't bother, you still don't have particular populations outbalancing the smaller areas and third parties who wouldn't win in a particular state could still get an EC vote if they have enough support.

The radius of the event horizon is dependant soley on the mass of the object, if the total mass of the object fits within the radius for that mass, it collapses into a blackhole (so you could have a blackhole with the mass of an apple, but it'd be incredibly small). It still has the same mass and therefore the same gravity to anyone outside the radius of the object. If the moon did become a black hole then the graviational field would be identical upto the surface of what the moon once was.
