well you have to use the phoneline not the website, and have a very confident voice as if you always do that. almost sound as your trying to replace a part.
Dell. call the business line and order a Precision 390 and you get Red Hat® Enterprise Linux WS v.4 (EM64T) as OS.
mind you, you still pay the exact same price as if you had windows xp. about 150$ but whatever you select on that monster you have a compatible driver with Red Hat.
I do want to add some constructive comments about GIMP, although this is not a GIMP forum. It does need a lot of refinement to remove a lot of its annoyance. to start with it has a annoying resource usage. and this is what i mean, it loads, then it works then it loads. its like when your a newbie driving a car, speed, stop speed, stop.. its really annoying. Photoshop its like DAMMIT LOAD UP!!! LOAD UP!!!! and i mean once its loaded, it doesn't break as much its smooth between the task.
my point is once single delay fell less stressing that many small breaks. its emotional, firefox had the same problem in the older version, when you think you have something it shows half and your just pissed cuz you have to wait. where as the new ie and firefox 2.0 it loads the whole bulk and dump it it. its not really much faster, its emotional.
Most of the Opensource software need to understand what is the underlying emotional stress. Paid software holds study groups to study how end users uses the software, or tries to use the software then add the feature. to make it flow the way a end user expects it. (some call this UI Ergonomy )
Linux has LUG chapters all around the world, it should be easy to collect survey data. every now and then there are newbie linux users that shows up. We just need a marketing savy leader to create some sort of check point per software. collect the data and cruch it.
Rumor of Google and Apple "secret deal" + Rumor of iPhone with Camera features (video recording) + Google buys YouTube + Apple Relations with Disney + Rumor MacOS X for phone = Killer App Multi Media Phone.
So Downloading full length movie is not prime time on phones yet. its just too darn slow. but if Apple makes a deal with Google, they can build an embedded YouTube plateform to upload and download video.
So think about this:
MacOS X Powered. Photo Booth with your camera YouTube Integration (with google) WiFi (or WiMax with google) Amazing Design for about the same price of the Sony Ericson's or Motorola or Nokia's (maybe a little premium) and lots of features.
Even, if there is no deal with Google, a mp3 phone with photo booth like enhencement and a cool look would sell plenty. I added the YouTube thing because it would be a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) that carriers could not afford to refuse. Because the demand would simply be too high if they don't cary the phone. As an extra incentive, the bandwidth charge for data transfer would be a insubstantial source of revenue that they cannot overlook, if there is a youtube integration.
so this is my.02 cents of what would be nice if it comes true. If I work for a carrier, google or apple and get a bonus based on performance. I would start pushing the idea if its not on the table yet. lol. too bad none of these co would higher me in the marketing strategy-like department. haha. i am soo good or crazy.
That is all because of Microsoft's Licensing structure! It's so restrictive that it doesn't allow you to grow. I ran into a licensing wall to instate a DRP solution. Our brilliant VAR decided to install everything on SMB Server 2003. And let me tell you that there is no way to have a real backup server.
You can't run 2 SMB server so miroring is out.
Add a 2nd server std and try virtualization restore, i have to shutdown the production server to test it.
MYGOD! Oh well moving slowly our apps on another platform.
I was thinking about volume shadow copy on the first few minutes and thats when he said restore the past. so your comment has no bearing, of course the first few minutes i could not realize what time machine could do, he didn't said it yet. lol:)
Its true, when i saw the time machine i was like euhh volume shadow copy and the notes i was like euhh outlook!
but now on a 2nd thought. there is a big price factor!!!!!
Outlook is like 400$ c'mon its like crazy 400$ for outlook, word, excel and power point. ( i do give credit to excel to be worth a good 200$ but the rest. c'mon)
and plus you are off to a good 5000K for VSC. i mean with the stupid CAL fee windows skyrockets. ( SERVER, ROUTER, LICENSE, ETC)
well MAC OS X is 150$. that not even the 250 from microsoft.
Beside, Microsoft screw up big time. true OS X is still OS X nothing major. Windows 95-98:) they do the same and people would not have mind much to have windows 2002, 2004, 2006. its just that they anounced 2002 as longhorn and they can't deliver. Apple got smart, they don't announce what they haven't made yet. so they always seems to be ahead of schedule. and can release half of the whole. i guess steve job learned from his past failures, like the next. release bit by bit is more profitable.
ISP complaining about bandwith usage? c'mon! Its just PR with the music and movie industry:) Sorry to say it. but its just PR. Just look at the ISP ads wording. UNLIMITED BANDWITH, XXX MBPS/Sec... GOLD PACKAGE FOR ONLY XXX EXTRA... If people don't use bandwith, they won't be able to sell internet service at premium price.
Or they are up-to a big scam, because they signup so many people for multi-year contract, they just want to prevent them from using what they paid for.
do not underestimate the learning ability of a child. the only reason why our ability of learning is limited is because no one really tryed to optimized how much stuff you can cram into the brain of a child.
also, polictics are into play. the peak learning age of every child should be different. but we live in a world of mass production.. ehh.. i mean education.. so you teach the samething to 10-20-30 child.. with someone who has been trainned to train them in a certain way.
I mean, i know i had a better memory that when i was young.. and i know that when i was in school.. i was not lissening to the teacher all the time.. and i know that i had a few unorthodox teacher who taught me way more than the program.
I had that old and about to retire teacher who though us the math program in 6 week. he cought our attention real big though. he said on day one. here is 5 test. if all the class manage to pass 3-5 of them.. we would have the rest of the year playing baseball or running into the park right next to the school. except for right before exam periods. guess what, it took him 6 week to teach us algerbra for a whole year program. and i mean if u look at the program its very reasonable at university level, it takes 4h to review this stuff.. give or take 6week is a decent amount of time to learn highschool level math to average adult.
ofcourse there are people who will never understand math. but the point being that if you are really into it, you can explain quantum physic to a child. give or take give it 1 year and he should be able to make complexe calculations if you explain the concept well.
Nooo! I think the game will turn out exactly as we all hope it would be. a Mass Multi Player Real Time Strategy Game.
Here is the check list:
1 - Subscription Engine
2 - 3D Model of SC Characters
To do:
1 - Shared service with the monthly subscription between SC and WC. a little bit like you would be able to play SC/WC/Diablo on Battle.net (this would ensure you increase your fan base from SC to the paying world, while not reducing the gametime on the WC World. Sony makes it that you would have to play for each game you want to play. lets be realistic, no one will pay 100$ for 3-5Games per month. Yet you can play 2-4 game in the same week depending on your mood. And the word MASS is important in those gere)
2 - Add a game master that direct the missions. be able to see in satelie view the moving units. while you are generated in a barack or a factory.
3 - optional but neat thing in my wish list. be able to play mini game commander (game master) if you are the righest rank commander alive, you get to go in the command center and move factories around and control the SCV's:)
4 - create clans and be your mini rebel faction and just do what ever you want. (outside of the game master story line) max it to 8 clan per map to make it like the original sc? nah.. make it big!!
5 - enroll me as the marketing manager / project manager for comming up with such a great vision:) *now day dreamming*
now now! lets face the fact! its no over-hyped. just pur marketting. its not any leather case, its a apple leather case annouced by Mr. Job. if it didn't came out of the mouth of Mr. Job. who the hell in the right mind would buy a 100$ case for a 300$ ipod? i would probly get a cheap 20$ one and save the 80 buck for my ipod upgrade. Now with Mr. Job's sceal of approval at the conference, its like cK initial's on a pair of boxers. its Fashion! you can sell boxers for 100$ even if they don't cost more than 5$ to make. and that the competition are more that willing to sell them at 20$ with 300% markup;)
wow! i for the first time i fell i wasted my time reading a thread (even if by vertu, it means wasting your time in a somewhat constructive way by reading slashdot) you know, usualy there is some sort of debate or something. so far its all the samething. Verizon Sucks, Google still has to pay. (totaly agree) now we just need someone to let Verizon know about it. lol.
how is Cisco currently in the home entertainment market?
How can they be considered a competitor of Microsoft's in that market?
that would be that they are both pushing media, yet non are really there. the article is not fully without merrit.
here are my 2006 prediction about media centers:D
MS Push XBOX 360. to move theire media center and global experience of portable data.
Sony Push BlueRay with PS3 to set it as a standard to move theire BlueRay disc.
Nintento getting bought by GOOGLE:p not cisco. REVOLUTION will have a download to play feature of nintendo's vast catalogue of old small games (cartige size). GOOGLE buying napster, have google video, perfect platform to sell media. fast preview, buy as you go. just need a terminal to display the feature.
CISCO will not buy anything, cuz anything that happends they will sell routers.
GLOBAL EXPERIENCE = WIFI (or newer tech) to share metadata accross devices.
BLUERAY = *cough* 50GIG ISO DOWNLOADS (Crazy slashdoters will have multi-live distro blueray disc, lol) and other *cought* ISO.
GOOGLE will need to upgrade their server to handle the preview, because previewing the game will actualy take more bandwith than the cartrige/image.
CISCO WINS ANYHOW. lol. i just hope that my isp will give me more bps for free:p then again, i still haven't finished my dreamcast games nor my gamecube games. have to put more time to finish them before buying next gen. lol.
