For family (and a few friends) I've gotten into the habit of plugging an external FW drive into their Mac and just dragging over their user folder.

But I've only done this for people I know that trust me to do this. They seem grateful that I've backed up their stuff and don't seem concerned that I "could" go snooping around in their files. But what about people who DON'T know me? Is there any protocol to use for doing backups like this? Maybe just make disc images instead of dragging user files?

You obviously don't work in Broadcast TV or the Film Industry.

It is considered a privilege to even be allowed to work as an unpaid intern and your job description is basically:
    1: Help Put Out Fires
    2: Read Minds

Things change so fast that a list of instructions and tasks can become outdated in 15 minutes. You have to learn how to listen and take instructions "in context" with everything else that is going on around you.
The faster you learn how to "read the mind" of whoever your boss is, the more job security you have.

What kind of nonsense is that? You must work for ZAP!
So just how MANY shares of ZAP! stock should I buy to get to the top of the waiting list to get a SMART ForTwo?

ZAP! exists not to sell cars, but to pump up their stock price.
These cars are imported by a Registered Importer and converted to US Standards for resale to US Citizens. Overseeing the import and conversion is a company named "Smart-Automobiles LLC" which has NO CONNECTION to Mercedes Benz / DaimlerChrysler.
They have to buy these things RETAIL in Europe, bring them over to the US, convert them, then ZAP! sells "dealerships" and "franchises" across the country and then the "dealer" takes his cut. No wonder the price is so high.

ZAP! exists merely to sell franchises and dealerships for a brand they do not own the rights to.

You cannot buy a Smart ForTwo from ZAP!, you can only buy a dealership.
Despite their advertising claims, ZAP! does NO CONVERSIONS, they are nothing but a bunch of marketing droids in an office trying to get people to think they are a "real" company that actually produces some sort of product.

Here is a conversation on FARK where a few people (including a former employee apparently) pull back the curtain on ZAP!

Here is one quote from the conversation:

The SMART car may be a good idea, but don't buy it from ZAP. They exist for the sole purpose of pumping up their stock price so a few big investors can dump them before any serious shareholders know what happened.

MB / DaimlerChrysler plans to introduce the SMART BRAND to the US with a 2006 model that is a small SUV,built in Brazil called the ForMore, from that point they may introduce a re-designed version of the ForTwo for the US / World market.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the "real" SMART Brand comes to the US and whether all these ZAP! dealers get hit with a restraining order to cease advertising or dealing a Brand they do not have the rights to.

    I agree.

The "best" films I have ever seen are the ones that are truely the most bizarre.

I went to film school (many years ago) and most of us there had grown up making Super8 films.
One of the other students had a film he showed that he made in High School.

It was about a boy that falls in love with his best friend, when his best friend rejects him, he gets a Sex change operation and comes back and tries again, he gets rejected again and he throws himself off a bridge! Oh the Humanity!

This is a High School student making this around the late 1970's!

In College Film School he used to make these films about Business Men with Tortured Souls.
At school, he always wore a suit jacket and tie to class too. He had a very "efficient" way of filming, he had a pair of "clamp lights" and he would put one to the Right of the Camera and one to the Left of the Camera. Like a Copy Stand! That's how he filmed EVERYTHING! Even when the camera was moving, he had the lights moving!

Once,He accidently re-used a roll of 16mm film and shot over footage he had already shot,double-exposing it. Deadline looming, he chooses NOT to reshoot, but USES the footage! And it was Brilliant! But, of course, very Bizarre. And, of course it was another film about a Businessman with a Tortured Soul.

I have no clue where he is now, but I think I heard that after college he was working as a Weatherman at a TV station.

I wish I could remember his name!

I don't need video either, but if you hang around people that watch videos over and over and over again like "my" generation does with music, you can't discount that there is a market for these people.

These are the people that have DVD players in their cars for the kids and the kids are watching a movie while they are driving 15 minutes to go out to Dinner!

One of my clients asked my opinion of some Video Walkman type unit recently, after he got an iPod, he was very intrigued with the idea of being able to transfer a DVD or other program/movie to a small device.

I told him I didn't think the technology was "ready" yet for an EZ way to do this. But he was chomping at the bit to find something that would do this for him.

I can't imagine what he planned to do with this, but he appeared to see some practical use from it. Just because *I* don't want a Video iPod doesn't mean there is not a demand for one. I don't want an iPod Mini, but that didn't stop everyone else from wanting it.
