The only safe way is to move it yourself from Canada to the US! There is no way to inusre that who ever handles your stuff will even be able to speak English--or will even care if they do. Just rent a UHaul and take it yourself next time.
What version of ODBC is supported? I hope it is 3.x which is better than 2.x. Also, what level of complaince. ODBC is a great way to write applications for many different databases with one set of sorce code! This one of the few things I am glad Microsoft copied and improved.
Not only that, but what if you hit the back button that goes to a server-side page that was generated on the fly, but you had already visited?
I don't like the idea of paying anying on a per page basis. I pay my ISP already. I don't want to pay for evey page access. I also don't want to pay for those stupid pop-ups!
What about you public computers--such as those cyber cafes? How would you insure that someone else doesn't use your acount information? What about the poor who might not be able to afford these things? There is too many possible problems. This is just another reason for companies to steal more money from consumors.
One of the problems people trying to define Globalization have is that they try to narrow the defition of Globalization down to one apsect. Globalization is not about economic or cultural effects. Globalization is the interaction of cultures, trade routes, economies, governments, ideas, ideologies, people, small businesses, religous beliefs, and large mega corporations on a world wide scale. A lot of peopel try and say it is one or the other, but you can't completely narrow it down. The whole things is twisted together in many ways. For example, Islam is not just a religion, it is also a culture (a complete way of life), and thus you can't just say 9/11/2001 was about cultures butting heads.
In order to get an accurate picture of what globalization is, you would have to discuss all of it's aspects and how they interact with each other. I have not seen that many people do this. I have seen a lot people focus on small portions of it--such as the econimic aspect or the trade aspect.
Thus an accurate definition of globalization must be generalized to cover all of its aspects, and then each aspect further expanded upon in more detail later on.
How do we really know this is real? Has anyone seen the email trail back to microsoft? I am just playing devils advocate here, but How do we know some didn't make it up the forward it to the Register.
It's not that his ideas are extreme. It is just that he lacks the understand of middle ground, and the need for a middle ground for people to get used of the idea of Free Software. I see free software as a long term goal with several middle steps.
I admire his idealism, but sometimes he makes me cringe. I am not that him being in charge would be a good thing.
You can also find a project to work on during your spare time. Remember Work to live and not live to work. Find something that iterests you and play around with it outside of work. This could be somethign as complex as the Linux Kernel, or simply wirting computer games as a hobby. The point is remember to work to live and not live to work.
You say you are approaching the end of your college years. NOW is the time to pick somehting to make a hobby while you have a lot more time. You can even have a lot of hobbies. Facts of life are you go to your job to get paid and pay the bills, but your hobbies are what you love (and live for).
Although I like the idea, there will be a new set of downfalls. IEEE floating point notation for one. Is there one for ternary number systems? Then you have consider which numbers can't be represented with the new system. Binary has been around for a while and most of the number errors have become invisible to us. I am sure there will be other things to consider.
The article doesn't cover your suggestion. I know that true, false, and maybe (or unknown) is used in databases. NULL usually means unknown.
Is the a record of the temperature in the rooms where these two experiments were done? Did Toms Hardware do this is a room at room temperature, and did AMD do there in a air conditioned environment? These would explain the differences? Especially if AMDs test lab is kept cool.
You'd end up developing in that lab todevelop and debug com objects. A lot of required information is stored in the registry for COM (et al.) components (usually in redundant ways).
I don't see how developers can work in a locked down environment. Espcially when developing com stuff on windows.
One small problem with this idea. AOL is required by contract to use IE for a few more years. That is part of the agreement that got AOL on the windows desktop, so Microsoft has the backs covered on that one.
Isn't he under obligations to make this information known? I think the kernel is liscenced under the GPL. If I remember correctly, it would fall under item 7:
"7. If, as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent infringement or for any other reason (not limited to patent issues), conditions are imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement or otherwise) that contradict the conditions of this License, they do not excuse you from the conditions of this License. If you cannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneously your obligations under this License and any other pertinent obligations, then as a consequence you may not distribute the Program at all. For example, if a patent license would not permit royalty-free redistribution of the Program by all those who receive copies directly or indirectly through you, then the only way you could satisfy both it and this License would be to refrain entirely from distribution of the Program."
Maybe I am wrong and the Kernel isn't under the GPL, but if it is, Alan is obligagated to make the information available too all--without regards to what nation they are in. In essence, if the kernel is covered by the GPL, in it entirety or just this part, this is a voilation of the GPL liscence. He can't simply change the liscence becuase the version he made changes to would have been released under the GPL.
I know I am replying to Flaimbait, but you can use wine to run AOL in Linux and get extra security while keeping the internet conneciton simple for those users that are not capable of understanding it. I seem to remember doing that a while back using Red Hat 6.2 (and installing wine {and the machine was a dual boot machine}) BUT I never got Wine cofigured properly so you couldn't do everything. Then I crashed my linux while compiling a Kernel (I didn't bother to make it a second Kernel). Now I might try it again sometime when I can get RH7.1 runnign properly with my graphics card.
That has my vote too. Especially when you think about it. A lot of file commands can be expressed in voice commands easily. You can also make a loose conenction between databases and files & directories. A query language (vocal or keyboard) to manipulate files and directories, or a vocal query language that wraps file commands. You could say (or type) "Computer, copy all files where the extension is cpp from the current working directory to the archive directory". You can use a name (such as computer) to let the computer know you are speaking to it.
You could even take a page for DB2/ODBC and group commands. For example, you say "Computer, Begin transactions", and the computer will think you are talking to it (and not the person next to you) until you tell it otherwise with a state like "Computer, pause" or "Computer, stop".
These two command would probably had slightly different means. Meanings like stop would clean up local variables and such, and pause wouldn't clean up anything. Obvously, is you have a pause you need continue.
Hemos, I think you might be able to Patent the Playing a buffered live stream. Then you can charge them (and everyone else) fees. Wait, maybe I shouldn't have said that because that would give somebody ideas...
"Pausing. Obviously, a new idea, and one worthy of patenting. I think I'm going to patent the play button. "
The patent was on puasing a LIVE TV stream. That would involve buffering on some end to keep the stuff that normally would get lost in a live one way feed like most tv signals.
I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Look at the fees banks charge now for different types of transaction. Some charge on a POS transaction basis. Withouthard cash, what to stop them from increases the fees and adding new fees? Nothing. I know of several business (restaurants) that only take cash. For a business owner, it is the best thing, you always know you'll have the momey from the customer because they give it to either before, during, or a very short period after they receive the good(s) or service(s).
Now everone has the abily to use checks, or even check cards. This doesn't include stuff like garage sales. The fees to do the transactions alone would make them worthless. Then you'd have to go back to bartering when you at a garage sale.
I don't see a cashless society a good idea right now. Too much corprate greed.
Most of what you are saying is circumstantial (spelling). It wouldn't hold up in court. Like all good plans they arte viewing there options. The build up of military is a just a step to insure the correct amount of forces are there when they are needed. This doesn't mean they will use them all. I feel comfortable that they are talking from different points of views. That means they are exploring more options. Bush already said this was going to be a long war. Did you even listen to his speech to congress and the nation?

If you can read you would notice:
"UPS Ground does not insure international shipments"
To translate, that mean he couldn't insure it with UPS.

Can we call these the Turkey Documents?

Was there any Duct Tape involved? I wonder. Now if only we could get this under $500.00, then we coudl build our own!
Why do a live version when the cartoon series didn't last that long?
Not to mention that Open Source as a culture has it's roots predating Microsoft as a company. All the way bac to those early Unix days.
AbcNews.com has some more info:
Mass - Reject
California - Reject
Ill - Accept
Ohio - expected to settle
North Carolina - expected to settle
That is all that article gives. They do mention New York tried to do some settlement talks on there own.
