do I have to send $699 to SCO if I already paid. I think this is a legitimate question that must be answered asap. I'm sure SCO will let us all know after the DDos has stopped against their network.
I went to Windows Update like all users should (must)do and found one patch for Win XP. It is a Frontpage Server Extensions Patch. It looks pretty serious and I can see why they would want it released quietly. Here's the URL:
solitaire on Windows is far superior to solitaire in the KDE/Gnome environments. Linux also needs Freecell, Hearts, and minesweeper.
Seriously.....
Linux needs the support of OEMs. Most consumers use what is shipped with their PC. With OEMs in binding contracts with Microsoft, Linux will be forced to wait until Microsoft decides to release their own distro.:(
Geek. I use smoothwall on a 133mhz Pentium at home not because it is the easiest firewall in the world. I use it because I can. Linux firewall=fun. Sure plugging in a Linksys router would be easier but there is no fun and adventure in that.
Apple has always controlled prices on their products even if you do not buy the product directly from Apple. You would think that Apple would sell more iPods if they allowed their stores to control pricing however that could undercut Apple's direct buyer market. They control hardware, software, and prices which can be positive and negative depending on how you view Apple.
Much of the technology we use today can be directly traced back to our space program and the Apollo missions. Where would we be today? Does typewriter ring a bell? (BTW, I love my IBM Correcting Selectric II. Just trying to contrast.) I read a post that said Bush was just doing this for Texas and his brother in Florida. Of course he is helping, we need it. What was left out was the thousands of jobs, especially in the Tech industry, that will be created. What we need are jobs and a vision for the future. The tech industry won't continue to expand and flurish without a push. A well formed space program will create new technologies that will affect us all. for the decades to come.
This is what I always end up doing for family and friends. In the future I will end up working on their computer anyway they go (most of you probally have the same experience). When I work on it I would like to have the most knowledge of the software/hardware configuration.
In order for Linux to succeed in the corporate/home desktop environment there must be standards. This is exactly what Sun is attempting to do. Don't get me wrong, I love all the choices I have on my Linux box however the average user does not need all the extra features, programs, desktops, ect. Can you imagine if companies like HP, Gateway, or Dell released their own customized version of Windows? Yes Microsoft does allow some flexibility for the OEM's however it only goes so far. The user interface is basically the same on Win 9X-XP. This is why people stay with Windows.
Not all information can be released to the public. I point to nuclear weapons as an example. If the plans for nuclear weapons ever got on the internet...bad example.
did not pass the Patriot Act, our elected officials did. I believe the will of the people is no longer being represented.
Yes the Patriot Act, DMCA, and other "feel good" bogus legislation do take some of our rights away. One thing we should never forget or take for granted is that we live in a country where you are free. The next time you post something think about the consequences you would face by posting your beliefs if you lived somewhere else.
that's what I did. Last week my network connection in my dorm was disconnected for four days. They disconnected it because they claimed we were running a web server. It turns out that their "filtering" software makes PS2 traffic appear as requests for a web server.
With two papers due the next week and both requiring some sources from the internet, I had to go to the library. Guess what? You can find relavant information in the library. If I lose my network connection again, I know where I will be going.
Just because Linux and Macs don't get infected doesn't mean they can't spread to virus/trojan etc. to other users. This circumstance is very rare but I have seen it happen. I work at a school district with a good combination of Mac and Windows machines. As soon as someone gets a funny email (usually meaning it has an attachment) they pass it along to each other. The Mac users never get infected; however they act as a carrier in this chain of headaches for me.
Open season on spammers or the idiots (you know who you are) who respond to or click on links in spam.
Freedom of speech only goes so far. Spam is not freedom of speech. The original intent for our first admendment freedoms were to not allow the government to censor a person's ideas. I don't care if I get political e-mails that I may not agree with. At least I know who it is from and who to contact to get removed from their list. When I get Viagra and breast enlargement emails, well, that's where I draw the line!!!!

Knock me out now and wake me when this is all over. Thanks.
Shotgun
SCO still sucks.
Short yet inspired.
most of the work (mine included) is done on highly visible projects (Linux).
I still can't get a date!!!!
Simple, the RIAA. They may tell you or they may not. I surrender to my RIAA overlords. Off topic but couldn't resist.
1. Yes, this Frontpage is on Slashdot because it has a critical flaw. 2. It is Microsoft, need I say more?

I still have to work on 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP. The future continues to look bright. I don't think I'll be fired anytime soon.

include:
Semore Butts
Amanda Huggankiss
Dixon Coxs
You get the picture. I think at least half the names are bogus.

You can post Anti US all day long but as soon as you add terrorist to the equation you're in trouble. Threats should and must be taken seriously.

(Bashes head against wall) Someone wake me when all this UNIX is dead, dying, ect. crap is over.

just another way to make your system an easier target.
