I would actually just be satisfied with a linux binary, and they can improve by NOT using that aweful cab install, that left linux/BSD users(at least me) to download the whole 1.5 gig resource files from a remote FTP.
Honestly, Im my office i would gladly trade everyones typeing skills for some basic understanding of cut and paste, how to minimize, mazimize windows, and switch between windows.
Most of the stuff we need to type has already been typed over and over, yet some dont even know how to ctrl+c and ctrl+v
Great, so now i gotta sort through my libg32423sdfjewri3jrwejw.so.1.2.3.1 libs just to use realplayer.
installing and upgrading anything gome or gtk is a pain, and ive done it with rpm, ports, emerge or just plain source code, and something that relies son so many different lib's just to function is yuk, we all like pretty things, but in the end we use programs for what they do not what they look like.
If you upgrade something suddenly in gtk, all of a suddon over half of your x-apps dont work. and thats "yuk". While Motif and Xt rarely ever upgrade, and apps made with them are less likely to freeze, or require extensive lib searching/installing.
Linux had nothing to do with the killing of that Elf at helms deep and SCO knows it! Everyone who's got playback in slowmo knows that an orc did it. SCO has gone too far this time.
I like xfce but I dont directly use it. I use open motif, but I use xfce's apps like xfbd to make it look pretty. I i want icons, i use idesk. I keep Gnome installed for the apps it offers.
I agree, we need to watch it or the "bloat" one of the reasons i dont use windows, can come to linux.
I have been using FreeBSD for a while now. I recently had a project that forced me to use windows, and I was reminded all over again why I dont like to deal with it.
Windows 98 - Illegal operations - blue screens - unexplainible freezing
Windows xp - Spyware - Addware - Trojans and Viruses. - The fact that all the above are so prevailent that it is near impossible to just browse the net without alot of extra software, hardware, and tech knowlege to protect yourself. - Even with an extensive knowlege of the registry, and windows API its so hard and confusing to clean your system of all the crap that gets install on it.
I dont own XP, but I have a few friends and family who do. The number of malwares trying to attach themselves you your startup list, or Browser are so great that it reminds of of the number of unemployed people at a job fair.
Im not saying that everyone in opensource is Good, but for the most part opensource developers what to create something useful and reliable./etc conf files are ALOT more easier to understand than a registry imho.
Even if Linux viruses started poping up, they wouldnt be able to do much to the system other than mess up your/home/usrname(unless you are root or gave yourself lots of permissions) Also, there are alot fewer places to hide in a *nix system, as you can just cat your *rc files and see if something is starting up or not, and a "kill", doesnt startup another process like it can with complex xp viruses when you try to kill them from the task manager.
What we have to remember is that it is the browser, not the site that has control over what the user sees. The web browser is what interprets the Javascript, and should always have the upperhand.
Eventually, advertising will get smarter and there will be "user" initiated popups via mouserover, or get focus, but I am confident that popup blocking especially in mozilla will improve to protect us from web marketers. I think the only popups should be on user click.
I have yet to see a popup on my mozilla/fire/bird/fox for either windows or bsd.
There isnt really alot of GNU viruses out there. We need to get a drive going to encourage virus creators to release their source code along with their viruses(i) so we can get more linux support! DONT forget BSD, we bsd users always get left out:P
the governator will protect us from this mal-mesure!
Any other website can violate your privacy up the yin yang, but good ole google which prides itself on not having 5 eyeblasters per page gets legislated against! SOCIALISTS!
I can't believe people still believe in an unproovable evolution theory. I guess they just make it up as they go along. Dino's are reptiles one day, mammals the next, then back to reptiles.
When I found out about google, I was amazed at the lack of adds. I was using yahoo which was pretty good but what was better about google was the lack of adds! Text adds are great! I even use them.
Today's xp computer can become completly unusable within a month or 2 of internet surfing, and downloading by an average non-technical computer user because of all the spyware/addware/malware etc...
you big dummy. you are poohpooh head.
Just as long as tv and radio repair(wo)men are not classified as pc repair we should be ok.
Its kinda like the govmernment sponsored monopoly the AMA, and the state bar have on law and medicine.
gif is still better, it shows up transarent colors.

spammers and spyware makers only!
Since you cant presume them innocent and find anyone gulty, we must assume them guilty and bring out the tar and feathers.....
This is completely outrageous!

Actually, I think any software that has the word "companion", that is not a real person is either spyware, addware or annoyware.
Thank you Mr Bush for liberating the people of Iraq from windows hell. Its obvious that Saddam suppressed open source.
Its good to see user groups popping up in Iraq that are not MSbaath-based.

Mission accomplished.

Interestingly enough, my favorite and most useful windows website is annoyances.org lol.

History records that Nero litterally held many captive audiences, and who says art school has a monopoly on dictating who is an artist and who is not.
