The (US) airlines already have a fragile enough financial situation. That might change in the next 13 years, but the current system is obsessing about who pays for what weight. More weight from these anti-terror systems means more fuel consumption.
I'd like to think that billion dollars would be better applied to reinventing all sorts of jets, particularly passenger jets, to save fuel and thus operating costs for our very necessary airlines...
In a later comment on this page, I mentioned the two sections in the WSC; one that has more rules than the other; the former being more pubilicized. If indeed this car's design has been fixed for a few years now, it probably won't be elgible for the first of the two because of a regulation change that requires the driver to sit in a more upright position.
Generally this change results in reduced aerodynamics, but at the same time is more like real world cars. From the pictures of the car discussed in this article, I'd guess it's driver is lying on his/her back. Another rule along these lines that has been in place longer is that the driver must be able to get out of the car in X number of seconds (10 iirc).
What is so horrid about these plutonium particles if they only penetrate the container "a few hundredths of a millimeter"?
Ok, so you've got an almost microscopic layer of weak stuff... Surrounded by otherwise resilent ceramics. The article says nothing about if these particle continue to penetrate past the weak glass.
All this disrupts the crystalline structure of the ceramic matrix, jumbling it up and turning it into a glass. That can make the material swell and become a less secure trap. Farnan says that some zircons that have been heavily damaged in this way by radiation have been found to dissolve hundreds of times faster than undamaged ones. So if the ceramic gets wet, there could be trouble.
Again, how is water going to get to it unless the whole thing cracks? If that happens, your container has failed, regardless.
As a member of a college-level solar car team, I'm curious as to what the solar cells that it uses are. It's nothing special that just about everything on the car is custom built; that's a norm for SC teams. There are two divisions in the World Solar Challenge. One division, the more publicized, is restricted to "publicly available" (though not necessarily cheap) solar cells. There are various other limitations in this category as well. The other, which I know even less about, but allows any solar cells to be used.
A common reference that my team gives the public is that our car runs on the power of a hair dryer. Does this car attain more or less power.
I'd guess this project doesn't have any restrictions. I just wonder, that's all.
The article mentions needing no more power than is available from an electrical socket.... Assuming you could then also battery power it, you'd have the potential to vandalize any bare metal in public with black marks that are "impossible" to rub off...
Secret Cow level in Diablo 2 (AKA Moo Moo Farms)...
It's great for being a joke brought to life, the sounds as you kill the hell bovines, being rather tough, and funky means of creating the level: Wirt's leg + Tome of Town Portal.
In some ways I agree... But it took me a long time to switch to 2.0betas because of the change to the away message interface. The current interface is much less efficient when you want to choose one of dozens of away messages. Instead of a nice long list of the away message titles, you now have a longer list of titles accompanied by full message text. Needless to say that requires scrolling. Only a moron wouldn't give titles that identify the away message sufficiently.
For those of us that have payed?

So what does it mean for those of us that have used Napster's legitimate service if it evaporates? Do we lose access to our songs once we get a new MP3 player or computer?
Yes, I bought DRMed stuff that I was having no luck finding elsewhere. And no ITunes isn't suitable for my needs: I don't use or want an Ipod. (SanDisk Sansa if you must know)
with a nice little "disk" interface, and a "bios" folder.
That would be nice, of course.
But realistically, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a claim that doing this could endanger users and bystanders if custom programming were used. They do that with cars (at least, I don't know of regular cars where you can change the software yourself) and digital hearing aids. The hearing aids are programmed with a combination of software and hardware generally only sold to the Audiologist. Reasoning I've heard is that HA companies can't risk people doing stupid stuff with the software and giving themselves more hearing damage.
At least, like this recall, the audiologists do the "tuning" for free.
We really are trying to make it less of a religious thing. The whole browser space in general has traditionally been very religious.
No way... It must remain a religion... I just redyed my black Firefox hat again a few days ago (I shit you not, the black fades to orange because of my sin: being outside too much).
Nah. Makes me wonder if this crazy man is in my dorm. I certainly see a few that look like they'd be the type here. :D
A billion dollars or whatever. Sure.

The website didn't load for me at the time of the post; thanks for the info.

I suck at reading... I read that as 'NOT caused by Global Warming.'
*ducks* World's fastest invocation of Godwin's Law?

Sounds like a nightmare to me.
You're quite the unfortunate soul to think of that. :D
Quite disappointingly, Super Smash Bros. Brawl was initially supposed to be a release game but has been delayed till spring :(
You forgot the top #x women in gaming. :)

There's still plenty of stuff from there. I only searched for stuff from Mind of Mencia, but it's there, and I saw other CC stuff as well.
/. summary made it sound like it was all supposed to be gone in one go... I wouldn't be surprised if it's a somewhat gradual purging instead.

But morons of that age category are happy to use MSN and or AIM and have 20 windows open at once :)

The search function is crap anyways... They'd best improve that first.
Sure... Curiosity wonders how many of those methods were used by hinted companies on hinted product(s).
I really is interesting to hear.
I "Wiitared" my way through Stairway To Heaven...

Indeed... I played games from a tender age. And I became a Pioneer at Pioneer High School...
Oregon Trail 2 was also mandatory: in elementary school, it brainwashed us into accepting such a lame mascot.
It's sad it took so long for someone to mention Bomberman...
No way... It must remain a religion... I just redyed my black Firefox hat again a few days ago (I shit you not, the black fades to orange because of my sin: being outside too much).
They created a holy grail already too...
Surely you've seen it?: http://developer.mozilla.org/contests/extendfiref
It's religious, and IE will burn in flames less holy than those of the great fox.
Absolutely, but more importantly, what's Jack Thompson's kryptonite?
