But you're so right - what do I want? Some half assed BR-DVD player, or a full featured *dedicated* player?
My answer is neither. I have no interest in getting HD-DVD's until the market sorts out the technology.
The PS2 and it's DVD abilities were certainly a boon to the DVD market - of course! You got a game machine and a DVD player for $350 (I forget the exact launch price). Now, this same model is being applied to a technology where only something like 1 in 20 people can really use.
Although, you know people will get it so they can watch "teh high def" on thier '92 Zenith.
There is also a site for junk mail - but it isn't run by the governmnet.
However, your number is still fair game for surveys and charity. Before the DNC list, people wanted to sell me things, now they want my time and money.
Who the hell would donate to a charity via an unsolicited phone call?

Looked cool, good idea, but if no one supports it - either gamemakers or consumers, it's not likely to go anywhere.

Since we are both being modded away here, why do you think the NES ruined gaming? (Really, no flaming or whatever, it's a viewpoint that's alien to me - I've never heard anyone argue/defend it).

Oh well, and I thought my post was pretty funny. *toot toot*
I totally agree that Nintendo is focused on making family friendly games. I think that they are open to other developers making M rated games for thier systems - however the perception of the consumer market is: Nintendo is for kids.
This is a vicious circle where people don't buy a system because there are no adult games and publishers don't release adult games for Nintendo system since the "right" people don't own the system in the first place.
That list is interesting - only 2 games not published by Nintendo on the list... (well, I think so anyway - Madden and WWE for sure, don't know about all of the others). I'm shocked that the upcoming Mario side-scroller for the DS didn't make the cut.
"And since Nintendo seems to have given up completely on M rated games, there's nothing to offer in that arena."
Yes, Nintendo doesn't make M games. However, their 3rd party developers do.

Perhaps when you are a bit more mature, you won't give a flying fuck what you ask some store clerk. You know what, when I buy the Wii, I'm going to ask for condoms, hemmeroid cream, and an extra large box of superabsorbant panty liners.
Unless you have the mentality of an 8 year old, "wee" jokes are just not funny / relevant.
While I agree with you - and there are a lot of English that I've met in thier 20's that love to get hammered - I've also met a bunch where it's just not a big deal.
"Underage" drinking is a good thing since the kids probably can't drink and drive. if you can only start drinking when you are 21 (okay, no one does this, but in some wierd parallel universe) you pose more of a risk to yourself and others.
"But, a short drive to Texas or a quick Google search will get around that law."
If that's your attitude, then why have the law at all?
What a joke.
Until a few years ago, in MA, if you wanted liquor/beer on sunday you had to drive to NH. Then they tossed the law. MA also has gay marriage. I'm looking at the sky right now, and it isn't falling - in fact, it's a beautiful day.
Whats that now? incredibly polished gameplay mechanics?
Yet you are surprised that Mario has a devoted fanbase?

You indicated in your post that you were alive when SMB came out for the NES, so that makes you 25(ish)+ - yet, somehow, you are surprised that a fun game will outlive the latest "mature" game.
wtf dude?
A million people before me have correctly stated that a truely mature gamer will select a game on its merits, not on it's flashy graphics, blood, guns, etc. Have you played Katamari? How about the new Star Wars Lego? I enjoy shooting as much as the next guy, but seriously, consider other options!
"What I see in the forum, is lots of people talking about their problems and getting new boyfriends/girlfriends."
So... why don't these anime geeks hook up? I mean, it's not like they are going to walk into Starbucks and meet thier soulmate who also loves Evangelion (sp?).
"People who are naturally bulkier will tend to run to fat. Then they have to diet to bring down their body fat, which makes it harder to bulk up their muscles."
While I agree with you that diet is required for an overweight person to "see" results from the gym, I disagree that it's difficult to increase muscle mass. I'd argue that a reasonably active fat person would increase in strength faster than a thin person - simply because moving themselves around requires more effort. (I say reasonably active because some fat people have virtually no muscle mass due to complete inactivity).
"Lastly, another Slashdotter brought up an excellent point. A lot of these old titles are available for purchase now. Take a look at GameTap's list of games. I see plenty of old console games there, although obviously none from Nintendo. Yet I don't get a sense that GameTap is a huge force in the industry now because of it. I hope for Nintendo that this isn't a case of, "Oooh sounds great!" but in practice, not that many people are interested."
I understand what you're saying, however I think there is a big difference between GameTap and a console with similar abilities.
GameTap is a service offering only old content that can easily be obtained for free.
With Nintendo, you have already purchased a new system for playing new games. The ability to serve up some classics is a bonus.
I highly doubt I'm attracted to someone at the office because of some lame porn scenario. How about giving consideration to a porn director who thought "I spend a lot of time at the office. A lot of people spend a lot of time at the office. We should have a porno of people fucking in the office!"
Your suggestion of maritial porn is not very compelling. I picture a 5 minute video of vaguely overweight people in the missionary position. Ending with a shudder and the girl running off the the bathroom. Whoopie.

Wow, that's hot.
I do agree that some porn is taking a wierd turn. I think its called a red-eye where the guy hold the girls eyelids open and comes in her eye. I mean...that's really not hot.

Frankly, I prefer the "bad" emulation - it looks better. Making the image fuzzy on my monitor is not a good thing (imo).

Burning a CD takes, what, 2 minutes? less?
Burning a DVD takes me about 8 minutes or so, but I have an older drive.
You can barely get into the menu of a game before your CD/DVD is finished. What dummy approved this bit of marketing hype?
