yeah, upon seeing this article, I was going to post the same thing. There's something seriously wrong with a console who's only claim to fame is emulation. It seems like a better deal to me to just buy the console it emulates. But then again, I'm not a software pirate.
Okay, you are just stupid. Not a MS fanboy. I mean, seriously, you are using some of the shittiest desktop apps, and your server is running absolutely ANCIENT software.
Yeah, I hear that. I ordered about 15 CDs about 5 months ago, and never recieved a single one. I checked the status last month, and it was marked as pending or something... don't quite remember.
Well, it's my opinion based on several pieces of information.
1) Xbox has higher clock speeds, but GameCube is much more efficient. It's just as impossible to compare clock speeds as it is to compare the clock speeds of video cards (of different generations), or an Athlon 64 to a Pentium 4. The GameCube's CPU is probably more powerful, but the Xbox's GPU is also probably more powerful. The real clincher though is Unified Memory. There was never such a stupid invention. Basically, the Xbox has a memory bus along which EVERY sort of data must be carried, as there's only one place to go for memory. This just kills performance. This is the theoretical reason why the GameCube is probably more powerful.
2) All systems are nearing the end of their lives. The developers for each system have had plenty of time to tweak and enhance their code, making it as fast as possible for each system. The GameCube is the clear winner here. Rogue Squadron 3 is the game that has the undeniably best graphics of this generation. It has the highest poly count of any game, while still having bump mapping, self shadowing, advanced AI, and lots more. Games that come fairly close would be Resident Evil 4 (actually licensed part of Rebel Strike's lighting engine), and Zelda: Twilight Princess. On Xbox, the closest things seem to be Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2. Which push about 75-80% of the polys of Rebel Strike. This is the empirical reason why GameCube is probably more powerful.
Isn't that exactly what Nintendo is doing? Shutting up? They get interviewed a LOT because people want to know what the secrets of the Revolution are. But they never ever say anything. Stories like this get posted, as we are still waiting for Nintendo, and the major news outlets have to post SOMETHING to keep their jobs.
And if you think about it, it was the same thing as last generation. Microsoft and Sony went on and on about how powerful their consoles were (150 million polys per second!), and Nintendo just gave honest answers. Who came out to be the most powerful? Nintendo. Who gets the credit? Microsoft.
Yes, Nintendo is likely making a marketting blunder. But honestly, I am always grateful for a company that's up front and honest. How many other companies do you see with the business ethic of Nintendo?
could be that old people are just cranky old bastards out to make a quick buck at someone else's expense, while young people are actually willing to work as well.;)
Tomb Raider's name can be tarnished? Tomb Raider won the hearts of gamers? When the fuck did this happen? God, I have to start distancing myself from gamers, if that's true.
I thought trying to tarnish Tomb Raider's name was like trying to vandalize a garbage dump.
Well, what I really mean... is that I am sure someone with your sophisticated social skills can go out and talk to REAL friends. =P No need to hang out with us social rejects.
I find it amusing that someone who seems to have a great deal of immature social skills (I mean, christ sake's, you are posting on Slashdot and flaming gamers)... is commenting on the immature social abilities of gamers.
That's all nice and fine and all... but the problem isn't scarcity here. The original poster compared stealing an MP3 to stealing a virtual sword. Stealing an MP3 is impossible, as stealing an MP3 just involves making a digital copy. In the case reported in the original article, one man sold another man's very very expensive virtual sword. The case you mentioned is applicable for the MP3 case, but in this case, it's like one man stealing another's gold brick.
I've actually considered doing exactly this, with a powerbook. But then I remembered the insane 1 button mouse thing on Apple laptops, and realized that I was freaking retarded.
I rather like the hardware in Apple computers. The hardware is quite well coordinated, and works together nicely, as it's non-upgradeable for the most part. This just plain sucks for a desktop, but it's nice in a laptop. That makes it appealing to create a Linux laptop, in that you know everything is going to work, and it's going to work nicely.
And the Mac UI is just plain shit IMO. It's overly flashy, resource hungry, and completely lacks functionality. I will personally NEVER understand why anyone would ever want a dock. A cascading menu (ala Gnome or KDE) is much more compact, and quicker to use.
So far only "market-share" statistics are commonly published for the public and do not convey install base. (If for example 2 people are using computers and one replaces his 2x in a 3 year period and the other only does once, market-share dynamics dictate that one demographic has 75% market share while the other has only 25% -- even though install base is still 50/50.)"
I think you would have to be some sort of idiot to think that this applies to PCs vs Macs. I mean, honestly. WTF? Article writer is implying that Mac users don't buy new PCs as much as PC users, and the marketshare must be close?
I work for an ISP. I get maybe 2 or 3 calls from Mac people in a 5 day week. I handle more than 40 calls in a day. And in my professional opinion, you have to be completely retarded to think that PC/Mac usage is anywhere even in the same ballpark to 50/50.
As well, I constantly hear Mac zealots all excited about their new shiny G5 in some overly pretentious colour like magenta or something and how well it interfaces with their iPod. Most PC people I know are more interested in buying a $600 video card for their 5 year old PC.
I've heard that Nintendogs got a perfect score in Famitsu. I only know of 4 other games that accomplished such a feat. (Soul Calibur, Vagrant Story, Zelda: OoT, and Zelda: WW). Perfect scores just aren't that easy to come by.
This statement is laughable. The PSP is an amazingly sexy work of engineering. Anyone who thinks otherwise is blind, hasn't seen one, or is in denial.
I'll bite. But I would hardly call a square button that sticks, and dead pixels galore very good craftsmanship. It says to me that Sony doesn't even bother checking to see if their screens work. And I hear that they don't take a PSP back unless it has 13 dead pixels. Which says a lot about their confidence in their product, given that I can send back my monitor if it has 4 dead pixels.
I mean, an LCD has a resolution of 1024x768, and I tend to notice if a single pixel is dead. Also, you have to remember that the PSP is manufactured by the same company who produces so many dead consoles, that there was actually a class action lawsuit against them.
I personally think that you have to be a complete fanboy to claim that Sony craftsmanship is good.

The man was just looking to get FREE PORN! Didn't you read TFA?
There's something really wrong when your computer makes Debian look modern.
Okay, you are just stupid. Not a MS fanboy. I mean, seriously, you are using some of the shittiest desktop apps, and your server is running absolutely ANCIENT software.
Heh. I'm actually working on a NDS ROM of Lumines. ;)
Yeah, I hear that. I ordered about 15 CDs about 5 months ago, and never recieved a single one. I checked the status last month, and it was marked as pending or something... don't quite remember.
Probably because it goes without saying. =) You were TOO correct with your post. =P

Put up or shut up for cryin out loud!

Yes, but what if they put the extermination robot in charge of the roach-mobile? It would be UNSTOPPABLE!
I wish I had mod points. Someone mod these men up.
That joke is so horrible that I couldn't stop myself from falling into hysterics laughing. Thanks man. =)

Hey, if funny bothers you, there's always the ability to browse at -1 funny. Personally, I like funny. It makes me laugh.
By tell him, I mean tell him that the Qwerty being designed to slow down your typing is nothing more than a myth?. The layout is actually designed to between your two hands.

Did he find the evidence?
Didn't crash mine.
