  1. Re:The Difference... on What Differentiates Linux from Windows? · · Score: 1

    Short and simple.

MS Windows is full of holes. Linux is not.

Windows crashes a lot. Linux does not.

You are able to run a lot more applications on Windows over Linux, but over the months, we shall see more programs ported and versions created for Linux.

  2. Microsoft vs. the Army on U.S. Army Warns Microsoft To Back Off · · Score: 2, Interesting

It just depends on why they send it really and what the soldiers do with it.

You're a soldier in the army. When you get done and are ready to pursue a career or maybe even become an entrepreneur, what software are you going to be using? Microsoft Office, right? And why is that? Because Microsoft has been so lenient to allow you to use their software as much as you can for a fair price.

On the other hand though, there could be a money issue involved... as Microsoft could just be waiting for someone to mess up and make some sort of copyright infringement. Highly unlikely I know, but possible. Also, it's just another way for them to make the company a larger monopoly than it already is.

For soldiers that use other products though, more power to you! Open-Office, j00!

In a movie, sometimes we just want the hero to kill the bad guy instead of being a pussy and arresting him, but does he? Nope.

Personally, I would tell him to make friends individually with certain people that share the same interests as him. If he doesn't want to, he doesn't have to go overboard and talk about Science and Computers ALL of the time, but maybe pick up on something that a lot of people may define as "cool." Never pretend to be something that you're not though. Also, if you have a sense of humor, no matter how big of a geek/nerd you are, everyone will love you. My biggest thing is that everyone knows me for my hacker personality. I'm not a media-whore wannabe, because they don't know what I really do, but everyone knows me as a hacker and respects that.

If you soaked up none of that information, my main tip to gain a great social life is to have an awesome sense of humor. Make a lot of violent jokes to people you know would enjoy it. It helped me.

With the addition of the WinFP, maybe it won't be as bad as the rest. Windows XP was actually a pretty good OS... exclude the bugs and holes. (Okay, so maybe I lied.) Maybe Microsoft can put a stop to that before Longhorn's release? Probably not; but good luck to them anyway.
