  1. Re:Lik-Sang on Hundreds Line Up For DS Lite · · Score: 1

I didn't view it so lightly. It was extortion. They waited until I could not pre-order anywhere else before issuing their ultimatum: buy for more than the agreed price or don't get your DS. They will never again get my business.

  2. The Future is Now on Forget Innovation From The Indies · · Score: 1

Oh my god we know everything that has come to pass until know, which is surely all-encompassing of what is to come to be as well. Therefore innovation is dead. We have thought of everything. Sorry folks, game over.

  3. Lik-Sang on Hundreds Line Up For DS Lite · · Score: 2, Informative

Lik-Sang has sent all their overseas pre-order customers and email telling them if they want to receive a DS Lite, they will have to wait a few weeks, and pay an additional $30. Please note that Play-Asia is only making their customers wait, but is honoring the original price. Too bad I ordered from the wrong place...

  4. Yahoo Shills on Google Stands Ground on Google.cn · · Score: 1

The focus of late on questionable marketing techniques on message boards has got me thinking the people bitching about this must be Yahoo shills. Yes, I'm only joking (I hope I am), but how is this evil? If you were living in China, would you rather use google with results stripped out by your government, or would you rather use google.cn and know exactly what is being taken out?

  5. Daigasso! Band Brothers on The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You · · Score: 1

I don't understand how this game didn't get a mention on the top ten let alone how it wasn't even an option in their voting list.

You can play wirelessly with your friends (even on the subway if you'd like because it's portable), you get to actually play the music, the selection of songs is pretty good and includes greats like the Legend of Zelda theme, the art style is a lot of fun, and the game gets sufficiently difficult for all the maniacs out there.

As much as I love Ouendan, Band Brothers gets more play on my DS.

  6. I'm not torn on BBC Tells World About The Warden · · Score: 1

I hate spyware as much as the next guy, but I love the Warden. I have agreed to install this program, just like Blizzard's other four million users, and it makes my WoW experience better. For everyone that didn't catch it in the article, WoW players have been aware of this spyware for sometime without a problem, and there is only a fuss about it now that news of it has leaked to the mainstream.

If you have problems with this software, there is a good chance you a) do not play WoW or don't mind the experience going to shit, b) cheat in some fashion, c) are wearing a tinfoil hat.

  12. Kirby: Canvas Curse on The Lives And Times of Speed Runners · · Score: 1

I was really hoping they would mention the new Kirby game for DS because it is the most fun speed run friendly game I have played. Because your are using a stylus instead of a controller, getting through the level quickly requires a certain finesse of the hand, and when you have to restart a level it's because you didn't do something properly, not because a creature didn't come at the right time.

If you are into speed runs, definitely give Kirby a go.

Downloading pirated software and copywrited material is often a hassle, especially if you are uninitiated in the process. Perhaps some people are buying pirated copies to get them early/cheaper, and perhaps some are doing it just so they can get the software/movies they like without supporting a company they do not wish to support. 18. Please! No more anecdotal evidence on Thompson Vs. Jenkins On VG Violence · · Score: 2, Interesting

This entire discussion is full of people telling how sane they are, and that they are sad when they kill animals, and so on and so forth.

We understand that you don't have violent tendencies, and that you played Mortal Kombat when you were a teenager. That has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARGUMENT.

People generally agree that young children should not be exposed to violent media. The question that is being put to you is not, are video games making people kill, but rather, do we really want young children to be exposed to this violent media. Whether we feel it desensitizes youths, causes disturbed childred who have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality to kill, or simply because we don't want our kids swearing, how will we keep material meant for adults in the hands of adults.

So answer the question at hand:
Will we use legislation, education, or some other method to make sure children are not exposed to video games which are inappropriate for them?

And it would have been harder to get Katamari Damacy produced because someone might have had a patent on a third person camera that follows the protagonist, the save/load menu option, two-player battle mode, or any number of obvious features (and not just obvious in hindsight!) that should NOT be patentable. People are discussing this as whether patents are bad or not. I think the problem to discuss is the threshold limit of what is considered to be something that would not be an obvious solution by anyone else and is indeed novel and creative.

Maybe something has been lost in the translation, but if Nintendo is trying to champion 'good ideas' over 'good graphics,' then they are selling themselves short. Their in-house games have always had excellent graphics. They're not flashy, but they are always cute, fun, and good looking. And what's so great about good ideas? Zelda is not a good idea. It's a dumb idea, and it's a good game.
