    The game changer of the iPhone wasn't features. It was UI and updates. Prior to iPhone, you typically would never receive software updates for your phone. After all, why bother, it doesn't sell more phones. The opposite, even. Bug frustration was a reason why people would "upgrade" by buying new phone whenever they hit the end of the contract period.

    Apple was big enough to force the phone companies to allow updates to happen.

    Well except for Blackbery, Symbian, and Windows Mobile huh?

    that is your own fault for not doing research in regards to upgrades. You shouldn't have bought a computer 2 years ago that only supported 2GB. The board in my wifes pc is from 2006 and supports 8GB.

    I still believe the only chance for Microsoft is to go to a Unix base like Apple did. My prediction has always been that they will buy Sun and use Solaris as a base for future version of Windows. What does everyone else think? Would that change any ones opinion of Microsoft, or is it just ingrained in the Slashdot collective that only Linux is the answer?

    Read the article you link to. Lenovo is based in the PRC (mainland China) while the Linux requirement was mandated by the ROC (Taiwan). Two totally different countries, even if the rest of the world does'nt have the balls to acknowledge Taiwan.
