It's bad form to reply to yourself, but it occurs to me that the intent of the publisher is what irks most people. Make me download the content later, I don't care. I want to be fooled. Just make me feel like you've done something to deserve an additional $5 beyond the fact that you merely culled out content in some boardroom decision 6 months ago in view of this day. At least fucking try to look like there's some good will there, that's all I ask.
If you want to send a message, boycott any game that features these unlock codes.
That would be a splendid idea if the back of the case said "Some content on this disc must be purchased before it is unlocked", but they don't, do they? Many people have already purchased the game and are just finding out now that 2K was planning on doing this the entire time. And since they don't accept returns of opened content, you now have no way of boycotting the game a posteriori.
Which mud? I coded for Batmud for a while until a college buddy keylogged me as I was signing on and then later signed on and did "call all set_level(30)" or some such destructive thing. Got me banned, the ass.
MW2: Lack of servers will make cheating run rampart. Result: True. AC2: Mandatory internet connection will hurt legit players and not affect crackers. Result: Judge for yourself.
I don't think your statements were exactly a stretch, there, Nostradamus.
The way copyright laws are set up now we've created a new aristocracy that need not create anything of value, they need only keep licensing the works of their dead spouse/father/mother/whoever in perpetuity. These people are leeches in every sense of the word, taking from society and offering nothing in return. Copyrights should exist only as long as long as the copyright holder lives. No more, no less.
I tend to think of shit like this as "negotiation by proxy". Talk about doing "really, really horrible" to the media, then do something only just a "little" horrible the next iteration. Look for the PS4 to start charging for PSN access.
This is complete bullshit. Not the least reason being that the content isn't owned by Valve and they would have to have permission from every 3rd party publisher to allow the games to be decrypted, which I guarantee you they do not.
Your comments reminds me of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, which I recently read.
In it, the Time Traveler meets with a type of humanoid 800,000 years into the future who are a shadow of their ancestors (i.e. us) precisely because they've carefully wiped out all forms of conflict - from food shortages to weeds and right on down to troublesome gnats - and so they evolved or adapted by becoming small and frail while also becoming extremely complacent about maintaining order in their world. The Time Traveler's theory is that humans need conflict in some form or another to stay healthy as a species.
Seriously, reading a patent thread on Slashdot is like watching a couple of MBAs argue heatedly about whether it's better to write Linux drivers in AJAX or SCSI.
Idiot. Both are viable options depending on the on the megahertz of your hard drive.
As a parent, I take great pride in knowing exactly what my son's doing in World of Warcraft. He knows that if I get home home from work and my dailies haven't been run then there's going to be hell to pay.
Regarding films being at 24fps - I think it's all about what you're used to. I have a neighbor who LOVES his 120HZ LCD with interpolation and all that. To me, it just looks way too awkward to ever consider investing in that technology. I think it's because I'm used to my movies being at 24fps and my TV at 30 (more or less), but I don't know if one is necessarily better or worse.
+4 Insightful? The GP post is correct - on the proper equipment (not sure what Sony has anything to do with it) there is a significant difference between the image quality from a DVD and the image quality from a Blu-ray disc.
But you're right, in the past you had to spend thousands of dollars on equipment (mostly owing to the cost of the TV) to reap the benefits of Blu-ray. These days? Prices has fallen and the barrier of entry is significantly cheaper.
You need a Live connection to install a game to the hard drive
No, you fucking DO NOT. You only need to be signed into an account. I've already tried it after reading some of the posts in this thread and it works just fine without the ethernet cable being plugged in. "Informative" my ass.
Not even remotely true. Actually, you couldn't be more incorrect if you tried. With the exception of Netflix, none of those features require Xbox Live or even an Internet connection to use.
You are retarded. Plain and simple. Yes, your games "installed on your HD" will run. But THEY DON'T RUN OFF THE HARD DRIVE. They run off the disc. If you can't tell the difference between a game running off the of HD and noise caused by one running off of the disc, then please shut your fucking mouth and stop distributing misinformation.
700MB had more to do with burning the files onto a CD.
Also, logging in to play with a friend and having some ass hole join your game to kill you because he needs the black "karma" isn't fun.
Sorry about that :\

For you, they just load up Excel onto a laptop.
Might want to use spell check next time. And why would promising not to go anywhere have anything to do with Valve decrypting its games?

Came here to make this very point.
Also, younger generation more in tune with technology than older generation. Film at 11.

I'd mod you up if I had the points :)

What do you get when you combine a former Disney imagineer, Guitar Hero, a house and 21,268 Christmas Lights?
Probably a Christmas card from the homeowner's association.
Sorry I can't be more help, but I found a great podcast on ear damage and hearing loss for you.

I'm quite sure that WoW isn't the only thing he's beating regularly.
So now even the submitters aren't reading TFA anymore? I know, I know... its slashdot. /sigh
You must be new here.
