    So will it be Mozilla's fault... ...when people don't upgrade to versions that aren't vulnerable?
    Not really, but Mozilla could offer updates instead of forcing people to uninstall/reinstall + install and configure all needed extensions everytime they release a new version. I know, most people just install the new version over the old installation, but that's not how it's meant to be done.

    Seriously, the most important feature request I have is: updates / an update wizard!

    It's not next summer, I don't know why they're talking about summer, because by the date of the first official flight, we'll have fall. However, it's just 3 weeks from now, I'm sure they'll be the first (and only) team which will finish the 2 official flights in this year (that is, before the deadline).

    That's great! As an American who resides abroad I should have applied for an absentee ballot at least 60 days before the election, which was yesterday. With the Electronic Transmission Service (ETS) I still may vote!

A box of 60 x 60 x 60 cm [approx. 2 x 2 x 2 feet] can hold about 1000 of these tapes, for a total capacity of 200 terabytes, or 1600 terabits (1.6 petabits). A box of tapes can be delivered anywhere in the United States in 24 hours by Federal Express and other companies. The effective bandwidth of this transmission is 1600 terabits/86'400 sec, or 19 Gbps. If the destination is only an hour away by road, the bandwidth is increased to over 400 Gbps. No computer network can even approach this.

  8. Article in short... on The Science of Word Recognition · · Score: 4, Informative
    Further examination of the evidence used to support the word shape model has demonstrated that the case for the word shape model was not as strong as it seemed. The word superiority effect is caused by familiar letter sequences and not word shapes. Uppercase is faster than lowercase because of practice. Letter shape similarities rather than word shape similarities drive mistakes in the proofreading task. And pseudowords also suffer from decreased reading speed with alternating case text. All of these findings make more sense with the parallel letter recognition model of reading than the word shape model.
    Of course he describes all the models before he concludes that from the three models, Word Shape Recognition (oldest), Serial Letter Recognition and Parallel Letter Recognition (newest), the latter is the one that is today the most accepted model.

    It's simple really. Send the document to someone with a MAC or who does not have MS software. They may write back complaining they can't read your propritory file format document. Could you send it as text or XML instead?
    XML isn't a top selling point. Either the Mac user has an office suit that understands MS Word files or not. What should he do with an XML version of the text unless he has a tool that can interpret MS Word XML?
    XML eases the development of 3rd party export/import tools, that's it.

    Not sure if 802.11n uses V-BLAST or some other space-time code, but the nature of V-BLAST, a MIMO scheme, is that the more signal scattering/mutlipaths you have, the better. Signal power is usually splitted on all antennas, the total power isn't more than when using a single antenna. Using the multipath environment with different signal transmitting times you can transmit mutliple signals in the same time frame on the same frequency!

    From the Bell Labs Homepage:
    The central paradigm behind BLAST is the exploitation, rather than the mitigation, of multipath effects in order to achieve very high spectral efficiencies (bits/sec/Hz), significantly higher than are possible when multipath is viewed as an adversary rather than an ally.

    Parents arguments against Tablet PCs:
    - Low-performance
    - too much weight (ie less-portable)
    - short battery life
    - high price
    - PDA + laptop combo is cheaper

    @Low performance:
    Just not true. Convertible Tablet PCs are equipped with the best mobile CPUs available (Pentium-M 1.8 GHz +). Most slates have a Ultra Low Voltage Pentium-M, some have normal Pentium-M up to 1.4 GHz.

    @Weight:
    True for the biggest convertibles (up to 3kg and more). But the lightest slates are really mobile.

    @Short Battery Life:
    Thanks to Pentium-M etc. you'll get 5+ hours of battery life. Carry a second power pack for longer mobile use.

    @High price:
    True, costs about 25% more than an acceptable notebook.

    @PDA + laptop combo is cheaper:
    Depends on the PDA & laptop.

    Convertible Tablet PCs have all the advantages of notebooks plus the added pen features. IMO the perfect mobile computer for students and people who work on different places at desks.

    Slates score when you also need to take notes while standing / walking. They usually have a little less computing power than convertibles / notebooks, but the performance is comparable to a subnotebook.

    I don't want the redundancy of a PDA & laptop combo and the screen of a PDA is too small. I can't take all notes with mouse & keyboard in an efficient way. If your goal is the paperless office - and that's the vision - you want a Tablet PC.
