I agree this is stupid, but not sure about the credit card fiasco. I entered my credit card through Apple's website when setting up an Apple ID. Then iTunes only uses your Apple ID. I suppose they could get your password from it somehow, but more than likely it would just link the iPod to your account and verify that way.
I see lots of issues with this plan.

Yes, exactly... I like most of my peripheals to be physically connected. I'm also still a fan of wired networking. Now, I like my "wifi" when I go out and with the laptop. However, for my desktop... give me wires!
Man, I bet nobody there thought about this in detail before getting ready to commit millions of dollars to it! You should get them on the phone right now!
Absolutely right. I'm amazed even at the amount of classics which are in some not-mass-market paperback print, and cost $14. The author is dead, so who's the money going to? Myself, I search out the Signet Classics for $4.95.
Although, if you screw it up... it will screw you up. I recently tried to do a major overhaul (move from X.org 6.x to X.org 7 modular). Man, did I mess up. So I was ticked off, and decided to install Ubuntu. Well, I couldn't get MythTV to work. So I went back to Gentoo.
There have been other times when I've strayed away after messing it up, but I always come back. It's just that nice. No other distribution meets my needs... which, arguably, my needs are to be in constant agony. However, it's my own self-induced agony. If something breaks in another distro, it probably wasn't my fault.
Agreed, but local commercials breaks can still be annoying. "Come on down to Bobby Joe's used cars, where if we can get you into a car blah blah blah".
Someone give this guy a cookie! He deserves it for being so elite and for "sticking it" to the tv industry!
Hey, call me what you will, but I happen to think there are some very good content on TV. "House" is a favorite of mine, as well as "Lost" and "The Office" (yes, the U.S. version).
... and I only have one device, my upconvert DVD player. When (if) I need more, I'll upgrade the receiver with one that has HDMI ports. The TV only needs one.
... is a no brainer. If Microsoft doesn't do it, it's silly. However, they need to be careful, and also possibly keep producing some version of the Xbox360 WITHOUT the drive IF cost is going to be significantly different. Some people just aren't interested.
Not trying to troll, but the only people I ever hear complain about this are people here. I have a sansa e250, and I had to sit and listen to the thing and pay attention to make sure it wasn't gapless. When I'm listening to music, it's hard to notice the gap. For example, most cds have a small gap between the songs, as the music dies down from one song and the next one begins. It's hardly noticeable due to the volumne decrease/increase 99% of songs have built-in.
Just that everyone has one (as many others have said, and I agreed with above...).
However, off topic, I think it's time that Apple consider letting others play with iTunes on their devices. They make a killing off of those songs I'm sure, because they don't produce the music... just pipe it out to people. With all of the other players coming out, the iPod surely won't continue to hold the huge share it does now... although it will probably always (if not just for a short while) be the vast majority of players out there. But if Apple lets others play iTunes on their devices, the ITMS will see even bigger profits.
I was looking for this comment... this is exactly what I was thinking.
In addition, most people who are thinking about buying one has decided that there may be a new one coming out, OR just the fact that not everyone buys $300 gifts for themselves all the time... which is why there were 14 million sold during Christmas. I'd say wait until year-end and those numbers will be back up there again.
However, there are enough alternatives that Apple might not see 14 million sold...
I'm sure that Apple is (or should be) more concerned about iTunes sales... they don't produce the music, only provide an avenue for distribution... that should be their bread and butter now. Too bad they won't let others play nice with iTunes.
I need something that will play on both my Sansa e250, and my fiance's iPod. MP3 is nice, but ogg is just as good (if not better, depending on the crowd) and it can be much smaller! That's ideal for me, considering I have 2GB to work with. My fiance could care less, she has 30GB!
I'm also smart enough to realize this isn't going to happen.
Am I the only person here who thinks sending an e-mail message saying "You will all die in seven days" needs to get the kid a little more than 2 months? Maybe he's not a psycho, but still. That's not something you just send out and get a slap on the wrist for. Granted, this isn't a punishment per se, but he needs to see some consequence for his action.
"I haven't read the article, but what software do you use to add songs to this player? I doubt it uses iTunes, and I doubt it is as simple as moving a directory over to it."
Despite your doubt, it is that simple. Drag a folder of WMA or MP3 files (or JPG, etc) to the appropriate folder on the player (music, photos, etc) and restart the player... done!
Just an FYI, if you use the Sansa Media convertor that comes with it (I know, Windows only but...) you can change the config file to let it do whatever size files you want. 10 minutes is the default, albeit the average user won't figure out how to change it.
I own a Sansa e250, which is the 2GB version of this player. The only major problem I have with it is that I didn't get the 4gb or 6gb version that were out at the time!
I can mount it as a drive in Linux, drag and drop music to it, viola!
The video playback may be a gimmick, but it isn't bad. Also, the FM reception leaves much to be desired... the sound is decent, but the range isn't very good.
All in all, this is a great line of players. The design was well thought out, menus are very attractive, the wheel is somewhat clunky but I think it is easier to use than the "touch" wheel that everyone goes ga-ga over (including my fiance, she loves her iPod). It's mechanical, and I feel like I have more control over it.
Hope my own testimonial can help someone decide if they like this player.
"I don't care what he does until something happens. "
You don't care he totalled that car you bought for him? And it was his fault? Now your insurance goes through the roof? Man, if you had just cared about what your kid was doing BEFORE something bad happened, maybe it wouldn't have happened!
As someone else said, it's easy to assume who here has kids or are a kid themselves. (BTW, I'm a 23 year old single male... guess I defy my own stereotype!)
I'm torn... I agree with what the other guy says (I have gotten a few tickets, and do not speed--note that speeding here generally means excessive speeds and/or all the time--I try to at least go with the flow in areas you discuss). Nobody can claim to only go the speed limit and nothing above it. It's nearly impossible.
However, 55 MPH on the beltway in D.C. and Baltimore is insane. First, nobody does it... even I, the non-speeder maintain a comfortable 60-65. However, the roads here are not meant to or are they in condition to handle speeds much higher than 75-ish. Not to mention the fact that the ones doing this are generally (sorry for the stereotype) aggressive drivers who are swerving around 4 lanes of traffic, or are some young teenager who thinks that he/she is invincible.
I finally got to try out a Wii yesterday, and I must say that I'm not more excited than before... Wii for me!
Troll! Troll!
Don't you have anything better to do? Good grief!

Clutter, who cares? It all works!

:-)
And, local breaks tend to be 10x louder
The World Cup was phenomenal in HD... and I am not even a big soccer... oops, football fan! :-)

We all know that only Sony supports Blu-Ray too, so let's put all the blame on them.
/. just have it bad for Sony.
Also, I wouldn't say that Sony isn't capable of this... people now-a-days on
Each of the 3 books was divided into 2 books. There were 6 books.
"A Tale of Two Cities" was 2 books, similarly.

It did? Man, mine only came with 2 controllers and Super Mario World.
