Thats why I just roll my eyes evrytime I hear how "overweight" america is. Seeing as how every body builder, most football players etc are considered obese. Heck even Arnold is overweight/obese according to the BMI. Yes I realize that we could definatley be healthier as a country but it's not quite as bad as the sensationalist (all) media makes it sound with their dramatic music, voice over, and neck down shots of fat people walking.
To me it's more convienient (sp?/. needs a spell check) to use a usb drive than gmail when I have to deal with presentations that use audio/video or consist of more than one file. Though my Sony micro vault of two years recently died on me so I've been stuck using gmail and my webspace on the school's ftp server.
Buy a Screw?
I dunno about you but I can easily glance around my room and come up with a bunch of screws of varying types. Besides if you really need one just steal one of your case screws or one from the side of another HD you only need 1-3 screws per drive depending on your case
not neccesarily I have seen many excellent short student and non student films perhaps someone will build a website where you can provide a link to your google hosted video and allow people to vote on the best ones.
It does block known ip addresses (with the added benefit of blocking a lot of ads) but after a phone call from my isp who got a nasty gram from the MPAA for sharing a file called office_space.zip (it wasnt even the $%^&* movie) I can attest that it doesn't always work.
In ANH after popping up out of the Falcon's smuggling compartments. Han says something about disabling the tractor beam. To which Obi Wan replies "Leave that to me" Followed by Han saying "Dammned Fool I knew you were going to say that" then Obi Wan says the "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows it" line
I dont know how many computer parts I've fried in my lifetime. (i'm 21) I started with an old 386 and win 3.1 that was out of date even at that time. After a year or so of constant tinkering, breaking and repair I finally got another computer. By that time my relatives knew I liked computers so they kept giving me old ones to play with. Anytime something broke, which was often, I'd figure out how to fix it, look online, or ask someone to tell me how to do it. Now I can fix most of the common hardware and software problems.
Just this year I gave my 10 year old brother a pentium 1 that I had overclocked. It runs fire fox, msn and some games so he's happy. And when he breaks it by playing around with the hardware I'll show him how to fix it.
How about a spam link / virus that automatically installs spybot, adaware, kerio personal firewall, turns on automatic updates, and set firefox as the default browser. Thats one viruse I would gladly help spread.
As someone who has used MS OS since I got my first computer I'm somewhat loathe to change. However, if this starts restricting what I can and can't run / watch on my comp with DRM style controls I'm switching. Either to linux or or Mac if I can affored it
I'm still ticked about compaq putting my XP install on a hard drive partition instead of giving me the disk.
I don't expect them to be able to decode their task list. But I dont think learning how to run spybot/adaware and scandisk is too much to ask. At work when someone calls with a problem my first question is have you tried rebooting? It's amazing how often that fixes the problem.Especially since the computers all have deep freeze on them.
true but I consider myself to be computer savvy and I still occasionally get things like cool web search and other programs without knowing what they came in on. Even running Kerio personnal firewall I got some ad pop under thing that avoided detection by adaware and spybot. It only showed one every couple hours so I was blaming the ad on AIM / webpages getting things past firefox. Wasn't till I went through my startup folder that I caught it.
Though I agree that users need to take more responsibility for their computers. (insert analogy of learning to change your oil/tires here)

Uh-oh I just compared the editors to AOL users........ Anyone interested in my UID? it'll probably be available soon.
It's Spyware/malware/adware when it piggybacks on your system without an easy way to keep it from installing and then resists being uninstalled. i.e. cool web search and it's ilk
winamp has been doing this for years but instead of hosting the content themselves they allow anyone who wants to run their own tv or radio station

What about storing files to be retrieved from another location?
