On my Windows XP Pro box at home, it only takes me 30 seconds to go from power-off to automatically logged in to my desktop, thanks to TweakUI. Having 1.5GB of RAM (two matching pairs) across DDR slots probably helps too.

Component cables CANNOT do 1080p, it's max signal is 720p (1080i takes up LESS bandwidth than 720p). You need DVI/HDMI to do 1080p signals.

I bought my PS2 launch day expecting the "emotion engine" to do great things...but am currently disillusioned by Sony and the happy owner of an Xbox 360 & Samsung HDTV (and no plans to purchase a PS3.

  9. Re:Well good on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: -1

Ah yes, good old evolution. The scientific "theory" with no real evidence. I'm not even going to touch on ID here, but here is why evolution doesn't make sense to me:

    ------------

    1. Evolutionist believe that the world was created from nothing. Where did all the matter in our universe originally come from? A big bang? That sounds like something only children could be fooled into believing.

    2. After all the world's matter appears it magically forms together into planets that have perfect orbits. Telling me that our galaxy resulted as the after-effects of a haphazard explosion is absurd. As if everything in the Milky Way magically aligned itself into orbit. Any good scientist will tell you that complex systems take balance and planning. The chaos theory doesn't result in progress, only destruction!

    3. Now, after believing in steps 1 & 2 you have to believe that all this matter that came from nowhere somehow became a living, single celled organism. This has never been shown in science -- that a non-living element somehow turns into a living element. This leads us into steps 4 & 5.

    4. Explain to me why all the animals in the zoo aren't evolving into different species. Find me a monkey that has learned to talk. Find me a fish that has grown feet or "scales to fly with" (becoming a bird). It's ridiculous.

    5. If we started from a single celled organism with a simple DNA sequence how can that one cell turn into other forms? Over thousands of years of adaptation? I'm not saying species don't adapt...some call this "micro evolution". This is a legit point -- everything will adapt to it's new climate / settings or die out. However, to tell me that this one cell not ONLY evolved into other species but that it's DNA pairs grew/shrank somehow is absurd. Show me how to take a human and alter the number of DNA pairs it has without making it a mutant or going sterile.

    ------------

Honestly, evolution seems utterly unbelievable. I'm not trying to start a war here on /. but I am interested in seeing how people can explain my points 1-5 from an evolutionary standpoint.
