Absolutely. I would however say it's a lot disturbing! Obama's 'Spirit of Service & Sacrifice' is one of the most frightening things I've heard from a US politician. Responding to a natural disaster sounds like a benevolent intention, but no doubt these programs will be teaching youth how to round up misguided citizens how to spot domestic terrorists & types likely to horde guns & food.
I'd give you all my mod points if I had any.
'BS degree' says it all. Most of these posters have degrees so they don't really know what they are talking about when they say it's a requirement. It depends also on what you want to do. Many sys admins inherit the job and were once programmers (the best way IMO since you understand the systems you are managing). But much of the 'education' you can get at university is.. eh. Still that depends on if we are talking MIT or E. Buttfuck Community College.
BOTTOM LINE: You need to know your stuff. You can do this at the library (or online) if you are committed. To that I would further that a HS degree is unnecessary. Has anyone ever asked you to prove you graduated HS? Most of it is BS, so why not dump public school and start studying on your own towards something practical?
PS Consulted on Wall ST for years; no CS (or any) degree.
It would be nice if myspace/facebook & other social networking sites offered some information to new users educating them on what they are really getting themselves into. I don't think most young people have a real sense of what online privacy even is or why it is important.
unless you think so. I would have no problem downloading the book, so I would, & I know it would be the right thing to do. If you think it is wrong, then don't do it. I would giggle at your action but respect your choice. If you came after me for downloading, then I would say you have crossed the line. I don't agree with your moral views so don't dump them on me. Or else you are introducing a new moral topic...and your wrong on that one too.;)
or Brio/Lego's. Something emphasizing the physical world. Maybe after he's six, try an erector set or one of those hobby electronics kits if he has a real penchant for math/science/etc. A two year old does not need a computer. Maybe when he's 8 a good hp calculator. Then give him an old 8086 and have him learn to code with 64K.
Your brain develops neural network paths based on experiences and feelings. If you continue to repeat those same experiences over and over the receptors burn out and you start experiencing problems (Alzheimers?). Keep doing things new and differently and your brain will be 'new' all the time. Memory too.
I'm not sure where you've been living, but currently our 'democratic institution' is the biggest threat going.
We already have a 1st Amendment, so why create more legislation?
Odd that you call me naive. I find your positions idealistic, academic, and completely unrealistic with a disturbing level of faith in the masters that govern you.
Net neutrality is to protect consumers rights and free speech rights, by assuring every person can access all information made avialable on the internet and publish their own content which can be accessed to anyone else, without it being blocked.
Your crazy if you think that is what the government will actually do. Look at the direction those same governments have gone so far with respect to civil liberties and freedom of speech. You want to hand the keys to the entire communication infrastructure over to them and say, "promise to do the right thing, okay". You will be delivering censorship on a silver platter, in a more augmented and frightening way. Large corporations can become corrupt, that's inherent in human nature, but there are steps you can take to combat them. Large governments, tend to become tyrannies and removing them typically requires lots of people to die.
On an unregulated Internet we are free to write our own applications, encrypt communication and take our own steps to work around greedy, short sited ISPs. Once the government is involved, you will either be a terrorist or pedophile if you do so.
Think about it because once you hand it over you will never get your truly free Internet back again.
What I have been waiting for is a dirt cheap (and safe of course) Tesla coil. I don't honestly know what the absolute minimum one could be built for is but everytime I've researched it, it was out of my budget.
Has anyone a story or low low price strategy they want to share?
You know.. the unix group one, the general IT/boss asking WTF?!/ one and of course the rotating idiot user support one for two weeks at a time. You felt like an ass/ubergeek carrying around 3 pagers (all of different eras/technologies).
I'm always amazed at how much emphasis is placed on it. 5 years ago you saw few encrypted AP's and now, every cafe you visit encrypts (usually with the password printed out at the counter) their hotspot that is intended for the public anyway. Far more valuable for Grandpa than WPA would be if he developed good habits when using the Internet..
I mean were talking physical proximity VS. the entire Internet!
serving up web pages blindly IS what the 'web' is supposed to do. More than that and you have a new application. I'm always amazed at how many even technical people discuss the web as if it WAS the Internet.

I want.. 10,000,000 GroupWise licenses! Ha ha ha ha!
Or we could vaccinate them after first microwaving them for safety. It's pretty clear that these contrails need be classified as terrorist clouds.

It's a different way to discover new applications. Sometimes you know what you're looking for is going to 'look' like. That's why your looking for it.
Believe it!

People who understand about pipes AND tubes.

The New World Order would like to thank all the US sleepwalkers for their support.
I have no clever point to make. I just think it's a good idea.

when even Nokia's internal policy is that all their employees must use headsets. Even the worms that repaired Fry's body knew better.
He does not specify that. He points out his situation at home and then at his university.
Seriously. If you don't like the policy, let them know. Dump the bastards!
Or perhaps XENIX?
