If the goal of Linux is to run on lots of hardware, including the not so old 500mhz boxes, then Redhat has lost the spirit of Linux, which makes me wonder what the longer term implications of this are. The distribution should follow the spirit of the kernel.

It also makes me wonder when Linus will put his foot down, I would be very surprised if he does'nt as these distributions simply "don't understand" the whole point of Linux.

Or should Linus setup a Linux distribution, that would make Redhat conform too.

  15. 3 more points on Resume Tips For Jobs · · Score: 1

This is a very interesting thread, several more points that i'd like to make.

Firstly, the URL provided above does not work.

Resumes are more about marketing than your actual ability, the sad truth. It's not what you did, but how you marketed it. Let's face it, most tech people have no clue over marketing including myself and this is why they fail interviews.

Lastly, it'd be interesting to have a Slashdot interview with a "top company" HR director. The educational value would be very rewarding.

I should firstly state that I am in no way racist, however a lot of Asian recruiters are extremely unfair in their job requirements. We could start a competition for the most unfair job requirements because it'd cause a few people to wake up.

Lets not get into a situation whereby only an elite class of people can stop the abuse of the Internet by knowing a special language called law.

It used to be that the technologists were the elite class of the online world, interestingly due to our ever increasing corporate world, the lawyers are one of the few with enough knowledge to have a chance of stopping this misuse of our treasured network.

I think the next few years will make country legal juristiction crystal clear for crimes committed on the Internet, but will take longer for laws to be passed and acted upon. I'd like to see agreed global unified laws for Internet and computer abuse. It's about time we took responsibility for this and tackled it now, not only for now but also proactively for the future as things will progressively get worse unless we take a stand today.
