Yes. That message resonates with people. Absolutely.
And the message it sends is "Copyright is an artificial method of promoting science and culture that people are beginning to question."
How many people pirated Tetris? And how many versions of Tetris and Tetris clones are there? Seems to be a lot of both - perhaps the current Copyright system isn't so broken? And perhaps the companies owning these IPs don't really need any more money - just for the sake of being granted a Copyright.
Control with your Mind != Detects Relaxation

Let the Mindgames Begin

· Score: 4, Insightful
There is an art installation in Toronto called Deconism that asks people to sit around tables, each wearing similar "brainwave detection" devices. Your brain activity contributes to some computer generated music, thus you're doing musical improv with your MIND!!
In actuality though, the difference between YOU CONTROL IT WITH YOUR MIND and "you take a few deep breaths, and your levels change" is quite a big dissapointment.
This sounds no different.
What I *really* want to see is something that you calibrate: i.e. Think "left," and the pattern is recognized, likewise for think "right." Then you can control an actual game of Pong or Arkanoid with your mind. That would impress me.
Unfortunately, as often happens in the gaming world, GOOD *TITLES* turn out to be CRAP *GAMES*, and *DO* sell... (i.e Enter the matrix, driv3r etc... i know this isn't really what you meant by Title.. but I'm using your language to make a point.
The bigger problem is that GOOD GAMES don't sell because they don't have the brand recognition.. so instead we're getting sequel hell now (Jak3, Ratchet 3, residentEvil 4)... god help you if you have a great new platformer without a number after it.
So... if your local game retailer isn't even going to give shelf space to an unknown brand, what chance does it have of establishing itself?
I've got a GBA (not SP), and the only peripheral I have is a rechargeable Batterypack. Like another poster, I don't really have any desire to get more peripherals for it.
What's funny though, is that when I was a kid, and had an original GameBoy, I had (and wanted) EVERY peripheral i could find.. I love to add shit together like a transformer Devastator, and click all these piece together in a giant monstrosity of TOY.
I had the Gameboy, plus a light that fit over the screen, plus a magnifier, plus a set of stero speakers that had it's own battery plugged into the bottom, plus a special carrying case. I used to love clicking it all together and strutting around the schoolyard.
Come to think of it, I also had a Genesis with a SegaCD, and a 32X... that was a beast!
Now, I like stuff to work properly out of the box. Maybe it's was just a phase.
Most people who DO play Gameboy games together using the cable are usually meeting up at someone elses' house anyway.. and if you're going to do that, why not play just play multiplayer on an XBox or PS2?
No way! The majority of the times I was playing my original GameBoy with the link cable was over Recess or Lunchhour when I was still in gradeschool!
I remember playing Tetris on the original gameboy and hating how fast the time flew, then that Formula 1 game came out with FOUR PLAYERS! on gameboy! It was like heaven on earth.
I'm so SICK TO DEATH of people comparing IP "piracy" with theft of physical goods.
THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
If I break into your home, and steal your TV, you are out a TV. If I use a special HU Card or what-have-you to "steal" satalite TV, strangely enough, your satelite TV still works.
If I download a movie with BitTorrent, share a song with Kazaa, put some games up on eMule, paste a.txt file of the latest Stephen King novel on my website, guess what? Your copies of all those things STILL WORK. Furthermore, the authors' copies of said items still exist.
Copyright infringement is much different from theft, in that IT DOESN'T DENY the "victim" of WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY HAD.
So yes, go ahead and "break into" my p2p share folder, and "steal" whatever you like. In fact, I encourage it. But leave my TV alone. I only have one of them.
Okay.
The ratings may be high for those [replacement] shows, [...]because they are extreme.
Now, I'm no TV exec, but something tells me that canceling a show, and then replacing it with one that gets high ratings isn't such a dumb thing to do?
Slow down a sec there Ann Coulter. If I decide I don't like the policies of Norway, for instance, it's their fault if I fly a plane-load of people into one of their office buildings?
If Norway has mistreated you to the point where you think that's the only option available to you? Yes, I would gather that Norway must be doing something quite awful. See, normally, people don't *want* to kill people, Let alone themselves. And if you think insane fundamentalist terrorists are just killing out of spite, you've got your rebel flag over your eyes. I'm not real happy with everything our country does, but if you think we'll be nicer if you kill a bunch of our citizens [...]
You've got it backwards. I'm saying that if the US were a little nicer, people wouldn't *want* to kill a bunch of her citizens [Amy didn't do anything to deserve] having her body vaporized over Manhattan.
While I dont think this is entirely the same as what the Pentagon loves to call "Collateral Damage." i don't think too many of the Iraqi children who died because of sanctions, or were killed in "Decapitation Strikes" with "Smart Bombs" did much to deserve that either. Unless you consider being Iraqi/Arabic/Muslim that thing which is deserving of death. I'm not saying it's right, or nice, but try not to play the double-standard. Not to mention all the calls for retaliatory "Carpet-Bombing." They will still not have the right to kill your citizens.
The US under Bush II has *consistantly* alluded to the notion that it has the moral authority to do *just that*. All in the name of Democracy and Liberty.
Not true. Being dedicated hardware, with dedicated tech like Pushbuffers, you can push an assload of polygons. Plus, playing on the tv reduces the need to have that much resolution anyways.
Sigh.. moderation at it's best... why is that flamebait? I'm simply countering the previous post's claim that the Mac is an ideal of usability? Not only that, but I offer an alternative (PalmOS)
here's a start: http://mpt.net.nz/archive/2004/02/16/os-x
Hahah! Uncomplicated like a Mac? OSX is so brutally unusable it's laughable. Keyboard-shortcuts, strange dialogs, poor error messages, not conforming to it's own recommended UI standards...
They dress it up nice, but it sure ain't simple. You want uncomplicated, try PalmOS 3.5 and below.
1. You can't pause a PIP window, even though both are being recorded (you can swap windows, then rewind, but why would I want to do that?)
2. The Search interface SUCKS. Why can't they include a string match search. Heck, they could use a string match search just for finding the right Genre!
That being said, I'll never go back to a non-PVR system (and in Canada, we don't have a lot of choices), but it would be nice if these "Software Upgradable" devices actually got upgrades flashed once in a while.
The police and courts should have the power to enforce speed limits. The police and courts should have the means to enforce speed limits. The police and courts should in fact enforce the speed limits. And YES, the speed limits should be set at appropriate levels.
Anything you don't understand?
I understand perfectly - police make the speed limit recommendations - and they benefit from ticketing people (and to go even further, they benefit from having a place to put (and fund) otherwise unused/unneeded manpower ).
I AM arguing that there's something wrong with how they are enforced. As long as the police force benefits from this type of enforcement - they will never be encouraged to recommend appropriate limits.
Yes, you would of course be quite deserving a +0 rating. I'm sure you're just trolling, but I can't help responding.
If the average speed on the highway is above the "legal" limit, you don't think the law ought to change? Or is it really that you don't drive, and don't like cars, and would rather have them off the road altogether?
> So far, however, you seem to be saying that the police are in fact being incentivised to enforce the law and ticket people who are actually speeding. What could possibly be wrong with that?
The reason it is wrong, is that laws are supposed to serve the will and the good of society in general. This incentive calls into question whether the law is really serving the public, or the police. When you get a ticket going 70km/h in a 60km/h zone at the bottom of a fucking hill, you'll question it too.
Why don't they just install OnStar style GPS's that automatically upload your license plate to the police whenever you go over the speed limit! Then they could issue tickets without even having to pull you over! We could spare all those wasted police manhours on tracking down other criminal elements in society! Put a camera in my car as well, make sure I'm not talking on my cell phone, or applying makeup, or eating a bagel...
I hope you see what i'm getting at. Using technology as an indirect means of invading someones privacy is still invading privacy.
just because you're not a speeder doesn't mean your hands aren't dirty in some other way... You SHOULD NOT want this kind of slippery slope towards authoritarianism.
As far as I remember, the "classic" games didn't have much in the way of depth. Nor did they try to get by without eye candy (ever remember thinking gfx couldn't get any better than Contra?)
Most of the value of those games today *is* nostalgia. I made the horrible mistake of loading up a C64 emulator and trying Summer Games. Man, I remember that game being SO REAL, but it really is crap when you look at it now.
Some games (like 1945) I still like, because that type of gameplay never gets old for me... but still - rosy glasses and all that jazz...
How many times do I have to see:
"10 out of 10!! I can't wait to play it!!!"
WTF? That's not really a review is it.....
Yes. That message resonates with people. Absolutely.

I think you mean COST of living. The STANDARD of living is comparable.
Ahh, the most refreshing post I've read in a while... where are my goddam mod points.
Well, you said it yourself:

Every single truly good show Fox gets it cancels.

if we wanted oil we would have gone after Saudi [Arabia]
Except that the Bush dynasty is in WAYYYY too deep with the House of Saud
Our politicians think the Americans are the cause of all their terrorist problems.
Aren't they?
How many times must it be explained that US foreign policy creates ANTI-US terrorists, before you start to understand it?
