    From TFR: "The Nook’s Wi-Fi should also work with open and password-protected Wi-Fi networks elsewhere, as long as they don’t have a sign-in page. (The device lacks the browser you’d need to enter credentials or agree to terms of service.) That means it should operate on your home network, but not at many public hotspots, such as those at Starbucks and hotels."

    Well that bites. I see multiple hacks and counter hacks in the Nook's future.

    Count me as one of the folks who was going to buy it on the release date. Without dedicated servers, I consider it mostly a single player game so I'll wait till the bargain bin.

    While I do think there is climate change, I think that many of the "disaster scenarios" are over hyped..

    What possible motivation would the climate scientists have to do so? What do they gain from over hyping the possible scenarios? To promote renewable energy? Again, what do they gain from this?

    Grant money.

    Can I just get XP that can use more that 3 point whatever G of ram? And still get drivers for it. All I use my quad-core, Vista, big rig for is gaming and video processing. Everything else easily works on my four year old, single core, XP machine and even that's more than I need.

    Call it tenesu or something. However, I think tenesu is a different mindset/paradigm. Want something, better get it fast or it will be gone in a month or so. But I've picked up things from torrents years after they came out.

    It didn't succeed because Negroponte wouldn't let anyone who wanted one buy it.

    Wouldn't or couldn't? I still wonder if they really got the price point right in parts and manufacturing. Maybe it wasn't getting the power and functionality but all the durability issues that caused the profit loss. So they could afford to take the loss as long as the massive consumer machine of the big countries didn't come crashing in.

    My question is... why the fscl did they plan this for February? Point to the person and I'll call them an idiot. Everything is coming back on air and there's guaranteed to be the most disruption if anything goes wrong. Why not the summer when NOTHING is on? There's no way I can believe there was any thought put into this decision.

    But the coupons aren't coming out of tax money, they're coming out of the license fees paid by Verizon for the 100 MHz of spectrum being taken away from the UHF TV band.

    I need you around when I'm trying to convince myself: "Let's see... I made this money on the stocks so it's practically like I WON it. I didn't make it by working at my job. So, of course, I should buy a new LCD with it!" A system has X amount of dollars. You can say some of it came from here and some from there but it doesn't matter. When it comes to our government, it ALL came from US

    +1 for the TF2. My hours per dollar spent on the Orange Box is through the roof. Spent $40-50 and have had almost 400 hours of enjoyment out of it. And it's still fun with really professional looking user maps.

    I must be one trusting SOB. My two credit cards, phone, cable/isp, mortgage, gas, and electric all know my bank info enough to take the money I owe them every month. Plus my two places of employment put money in. For other companies who can't get their due that way or I trust less, they automatically charge my credit card.

    I write and mail about 4-5 checks a year (stupid water authority). I was the worst bill payer and always misplacing stuff trying a dozen systems and hated all the bills every month. Now, one time a month, I zing through all my stuff and verify it all look sane and all is right with the world of Joe.

    I have a huge box full of mice due to looking for the perfect one for gaming that. Picked up the Logitech G9 on sale six months ago and it's about the best I've tried so far. Wish I would have gotten another one.
