Damn! My camera got a virus - now it won't stop taking pictures at random times and uploading it to the web!
Seriously - whats next? WindowsDC (Digital Camera)? Your gonna take a whole bunch of pictures and they will all turn out blue with radom HEX numbers all over the place.
Also, think of the implications this means for government. I'm sure they would love to get a trojan out there that let them take a picture from any camera at any time - Chicago can get rid of that silly plan to stick up all those video cameras! Sheesh.
Owell, if you can't fight it, join it. With this in mind: I for one, welcome our new camera overlords.
2 things: First, I'm just waiting for all 9 to come out in the "super duper last ever we promise StarWars rocks" box set.
Second, Episode 3 *should* rock. Ya, 1&2 kinda sucked (I still enjoyed em) but episode 3 - thats the clone wars baby! Anikan becomes Darth. etc... Basically 3 will be one huge, awesome, battle. On top of that, it will be kind of like episode 5 (Empire Strikes Back - Best one in my opinion) cause the evil guys will win. w00t. I love evil prospering over good - its so much more - real lifeish.
I have always liked databases (MySQL/PHP!). They are very well orginized if you do em right, you can cross reference stuff easily (JOIN's) and you can find stuff easily. Why don't we see applications using databases more? If they did, they wouldn't have to worry about file format and other annoyances like that. (Column names, yes, but it would be easy to standardize that - how many different names can you come up with for the field "last name"?) I would love to be able to run a SQL on my machine all the time that just served information to different programs. I could also then write my own web front-ends for them. So like I said - why haven't more people thought of this?
Disclaimer: I like having different applications do different things, and launch each other as necessary. I dislike the BigBlobOfFunctionality(tm) approach to software. I understand that PHBs like BigBlobOfFunctionality because they don't have to learn what the minimise button does.
I agree. However, one thing I don't like is when programs are TOO fragmented. The programs themselves should remain separate, but the data should all be in the same place, so that all the apps can access and use it in conjunction. (ie: You want a program to manage all your contacts, but you want your email program to be able to get the email addresses of them, and your SIP phone to get their phone numbers.)
Uhm... Why would they do that? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just errect a huge radio tower? Having an airplane circle would be pretty expensive - fuel, pilot, radio transmission operator, whatever else they needed. Only advantage I see is that you wouldn't have buildings or mountains interfering with the radio waves, but then again, Indiana isn't really known for either of those.
What about using it to make armor? You could fill small pouches with the stuff, then, when a bullet hits it, the heat will cause it to turn solid, stopping the bullet, a few seconds later after it cooled off again, the bullet would just sink to the bottom, and the armor would be ready to stop another bullet. (The liquid would have to be put in a self-healing container)
I know EXE's dont run on Linux, however, I was simply demonstrating my point. Since EXE stands for Executable, I was trying to relay the idea that it wasnt really a picture, but really a virus masquerading as a picture.
Common myth: Linux is invulnerable from viruses, trojans, worms, etc.
The truth: Linux is just as susuptable to all those nasty things as everything else, however, security holes get fixed quicker. However, if a user gets an email with the subject "Awesome Pic!" and the attachment "virus.jpeg.exe" and they open it, it isn't a headache for the sysads because the virus only wipes out their home directory, not the system. The problem comes when you get something like OSX where the user is the admin.
Here in the US we have a 60Hz refresh rate. (This is because our AC outlets are at 60Hz. Europe AC outlets are 50Hz, but of course lots of them are 220-240V instead of 110-120V)
Normal windows popups when re-connecting, so if you are in the middle of typing, it gets the normal windows treatment of stealing focus. 5/10/15 years is good for somethings, but when measuring America in presidential terms, I think 4/8/12/16 is a better measure, simply because presidents can make a large impact. (IE: Bush took us to war)
(The 16 is optional because 12 is less long-term than 15)
Just hook up the positve and negative terminals of your battery to your cars body every night. By morning the battery should be sufficiently dead so that you can get into it and disconnect it. Plus, during the night when the battery isnt dead, then it' sure to discourage people from breaking into it.
Sure, dead pig flavored jello wouldnt be that bad. I love dead pig! Of course, I don't call it that. Instead, I eat stuff called "Ham", "Bacon", and "Ribs", amoung any other fine cuts of meat that comes from dead pigs.
Hold on there big guy - you just might be onto something with that pool idea.
Instead of just using the pool to clean your data center, you could double it up as a liquid cooling system! Plus, you have a something to do for recreation during breaks. Forget about boring talks at the water cooler, just jump in your data center for a swim!
(Maybe if you use some sorta Jello liquid. I don't think Jello is conductive, and then you could also drink it, which means you could also trash your water cooler, saving your company further money!)
By the way, does anyone at all know a way to make the emacs command NOT try to open xemacs without having to type "emacs -nw" each time? It's REALLY annoying.
<fanatic>Ya, its really easy! Just use text mode Linux and don't install XEmacs!</fanatic>
*cough*emacs*cough*
No, seriously, choose your allegiances soon, because you will be forced to sooner or later. KDE/Gnome, Emacs/Vi, the list goes on and on. The sooner you decide what you like - the sooner you can start learning about it. But make sure you start out with what you like, because your not allowed to switch!

88 mil!? Shoot, I could something to the moon for about $100. Just give me a wrapping paper tube and a, uhm, "few", ESTES rocket engines!
Sidenote breaking the fun:
Do you think it would be actually possible to break the Earths gravity with just ESTES rockets? And why hasn't India tried?
On a similar note (slightly offtopic)...

Will a D.O.S attack ever be named a Slashdot attack?
D.O.S.
Denial Of Slashdot. HAHAHAHA!
Screw Bluetooth and USB - I've been able to do this for a long time via infared!

...kinda a catch-22 though, cause the reason they need to RTFM is because they haven't RTFM, unlike us who have RTFM.

I only need my robot to understand a few commands.
1. Beer me.
2. Get TV remote.
3. Get rid of annoying girlfriend.
O wait - I'm a slashdotter, I don't have a girlfriend! Scratch that last command.

Amendment: Wait till tomorrow when the gun bill lapses, then buy an AK-47 or M-16. (Fully automatic of course.)

I know what your talking about. I have ADHD and...OH LOOK! A SQUIRREL!
(Error: Time not allocated!)
Comon man, haven't you taken physics? Pressure = heat. Thats why hell is exothermic!
Oh yea, and to get the diamonds you would have to stick coal up your arse. That's pretty nasty dude.
