More than likely as a kid in the system he knows far more than you do about how much the world can suck and already knows pretty much everything there is to know about sex, drugs, and perverts. Theres nothing you can say that he probably hasn't heard already.

Set him up with a really low-end computer and firefox in his room and stick a badass machine out in the family room. If he wants to have a private convo he can do it in his room, otherwise 90% of his time will be spent outside with you.

Just tell him that if he is going to go searching for porn, and he will, then to at least go to websites you know are reasonably safe (peachy18, etc). Tell him that it's normal and healthy for a young man his age, but FFS go somewhere that wont download 4 fuckajillion trojans and try to at least be subtle about it.

That way the company makes just as much money off of the super-players but also gets tons of extra business from the once-a-week players that otherwise wouldn't bother.

Why do politicians always delude themselves into thinking that gamers are some sort of masonic society hell-bent on fighting them to the bitter end. I'm all for rockstar and take-two being bitchslapped for dicking around with the ESRB but the problem is they will never get support from the gaming community if peaple like jack thompson are allowed to continue their mad rantings. The other thing i don't get is why the ESRB didn't just make M rated games 18+ and allow everything from hardcore to armored core to be filed under it, and prevent the whole issue in the first place. having that 1 year difference is really not going to do anything but confuse peaple even more. And it's not as if i can't easily see far more explicit material in an R rated movie...

Actually afaik every store that sells M rated games does not sell them to anyone under 17, i live in florida and even down here i get carded every time i try to buy something. What i don't get is why don't they just change it so that M rated games can't be bought by anyone under 18, and that way even with a hot coffee mod that actually has genitilia showing it's still not breaking any laws. After all, most states the legal age for pornography is 18 right? And if someone buys that for their kids then it would be like taking them to see texas chainsaw massacre, you can't blame the retailer at all.

Lets not forget Funimation syndrome. I remember after i saw a season or two of DBZ fansubs i was lost, the plotline of the american versions was so wildly different that the only explanation was that they MUST have been on drugs when they translated it.

And why, exactly, do they need to photoshop out references to japanese culture wherever possible? It makes no sense to paste a fork over someones chopsticks, i mean the nudity is okay, the swearing i can understand, but chopsticks and plotlines? And what's with the overzealous gore censors. The first season or two of DBZ on toonami had absolutely no blood in it and within an hour or two you could watch the powerpuff girls rip off someones arm and beat them to death with it.

Another interesting double standard for you: any american anime will invariably have at least 1 super-preachy message per episode. Supposedly this is to teach kids morality, but in many PPG episodes the bad guys decide to go without a fight and surrender peacefully, then the girls beat them so badly that they wind up with dozens of broken bones and usually bleeding from several open breaks.

The simple fact of the matter is that america is a fucked up christian fundamentalist country which puts money above all else and hates foreign cultures. This is why anime is treated so badly, and fansubs are the only way to watch them. Because, simply put, the "official" releases are nothing short of a completely different show.

This entire article simply reeks of halo fanboyism. Now no offense to the real halo fans, but if your going to go on a rant about cheaters you need to have more than about 3 actual cheats listed. Tampering with things outside of the gameworld to give you or anyone else an advantage is cheating. Getting a friend in spec to spy for you is essentially a wallhack and that's cheating. Zooming across the map .2 seconds to sword someone is an obvious exploit of the sword's dash function and therefore cheating. Jumping on someone's head to get to a high place isn't cheating at all. Combining this with trickjumps isn't cheating at all. Using this to get outside the map isn't cheating either. It's being a llama for exploiting Developer Error. What i can't believe is that they spent several pages on this and completely failed to do anything but present what in the end seems like a popup wearing philosophy. They should have at least mentioned OGC or xqz2, even in passing.
