I believe the core pack really only made sense for people who were not interested in xbox live and had no need for any storage besides game saves. Why anybody would pick up a 360 if they weren't interested in online gaming is another question though...
You realize that by outselling the Wii in both months since it has been available, the 360 has a larger raw numerical lead now than it did before the Wii came out.
Well, they did reach the 8 million subscriber mark http://www.blizzard.com/press/070111.shtml and have their first expansion coming out next week, which a good percent of those 8 mil will buy. I imagine Blizzard is fairly comfortable with their financial situation right now.
Not going to happen. MS will be in no hurry to embrace one of the new dvd formats fully when it can just push its movie download service instead. MS doesn't benefit from HD-DVD the same way Sony benefits from Blu-Ray.
I don't think so. It doesn't make sense to continue producing the pro version. Right now, the 2 models are the same, except for the HD and pack in accessories. Continuing to produce a non-hdmi, 90nm variant makes 0 sense.
I would predict this taking the place of the current pro version, with the core version also getting the hdmi/65nm upgrade, but still shipping sans HD. Price points remain unchanged until the holidays.
Is it just me, or is minesweeper with a controller horribly unappealing? Its a timed game, with small little boxes to click. A gamepad doesn't seem up to the challenge. Especially since there will be a mouse already attached connected to the computer.
You misunderstand me. I don't care what you do to YOUR console. I just don't want you or anyone else getting your potentially exploitative code to MY console.
Right now, your xbox can access xbox live, a closed system whos content is controlled and regulated by Microsost. Everything on it can be verified to be safe, and to work on your xbox. Opening up this secure, closed network to the hostilities of the public internet can't be something they're in a hurry to do. A web browser, especially if its Internet Explorer (and it certainly would be on the xbox) opens up the possibility of arbitrary content and code to be viewed and downloaded. I imagine there are people on this very website who would love to be able to exploit a browser bug and attack a Microsoft console.
I'm guessing that Microsoft has enough web browser experience to know not to include one.
Geometry Wars has gotten more playtime than any of my full price 360 games. And I really like those other games games too. Its just that its impossible for me to not begin and end my 360 gaming sessions with a few games of geometry wars.
"If you like pretty graphics and stuff exploding, go watch a movie, go outside, or whatever."
Or I can play my shiny new console. Why are you telling me I shouldn't look to videogames for my graphics fix? I was perfectly happy with the way games were played last generation. I was perfectly happy with the way they were played the generation before that too. The pace of gameplay innovations has been just fine in my eyes. Give me the gameplay types I've come to love with an extra dose of pretty and I'll be happy. Obviously I'm not alone. If graphics aren't important to you thats fine, but don't say they aren't important to the genre.
I played and enjoyed the hell out of a Link to the Past. I've probably played through Zelda OOT and FF6 five times each (OOT as recently as a month ago). Those games are no less great now than they were then, but they also were graphically fantastic at the time they were released and that certainly contributed to their success.
My girlfriend tried to pick up a Wii this morning when WalMart opened. She figured she'd get there early but saw a line of 15+ at 5:30am and went back home. They're definitely still a pain in the ass to get.
I just ran a cable. Considering that you probably want good latency for online gaming, as well as high speed for downloads and streaming media from your PC, I'd be using wired even if it were wireless.
Not everyone is going to use the wireless, which is why its an optional accessory. Cheaper, 3rd party wireless options work just fine from what I understand.
Patches and microtransactions aren't going to go away, but we consumers can help cut down on some of the bullshit by not buying it. I can't imagine EA is getting many people to buy their cheat codes, and I imagine much of the other crappy marketplace stuff doesn't see too many purchases. The microtransaction idea will only work out for publishers if they offer up stuff worth buying.
Instead they gave the Halo team another year to work on it and created a whole new blockbuster franchise in Gears of War to go up against the PS3. Halo 3 will be all the better, and they'll have it when the PS3 gets some major titles. Seems like a good play all around.

Wii Confirmed at 480p
·
· Score: 1
Its not non-disputed at all. The 'horrible blurring' with 1080i is the same thing that has always existed with normal 480i tv. That is, very minor blurring. And 1080i superior for lower motion broadcasts which is why the premium movie networks use it.
And all the sports channels do not use 720p. 1080i channels that display sports: CBS (AFC football and college basketball/football) NBC (sunday night football), both INHD channels (various pro sports), NFL network and NBA TV (self explanitory).
Its possible they could still 'add the possibility' of 720p 1080i via software. Microsoft just updated the 360 to output 1080p, and the Wii does have component cables. In reality though, the wii wasn't built for that and would be lacking the muscle to do those resolutions justice.
http://www.runtime360.com/ is free software that will transcode your xvid and divx files to wmv in realtime. You install it on your media center box and you can play your divx files from your 360. Sure transcoding will cost you some picture quality, but its a decent solution until Microsoft decides to come around.

I thought Nintendo shipped 1 million of these things at launch, so where are the other 500,000? They sure as hell aren't sitting on shelves.
Read that story again. Nintendo believes it will have 6 million sold by the end of their fiscal year on March 31.

Myself and 3 friends have all bought 360s in the last 2 months. Just sayin'
Someone needs to convince Bioware to make their own sequels.

If this topic is for people who actually got a ps3, I'm guessing this will be a short thread...

My last generation xbox displayed most games at 480p, and later games in 720p and 1080i.
No its true. My best friend told me, and his WoW guildleader's uncle works at sony.
Are they just calling it Street Fighter 2? Championship Edition? Turbo? Hyper Fighting? Alpha?
