    Intel is constantly adding new commands and register to the CPU, this is the whole point of the article, so it can easily do it to greatly increase execution speed of ALL programs, not just a few!!!

    I remember telling people that you could only get viruses from running an exe or com file. You can't get it from reading a text document. Then boot sector viruses came out. Then macro viruses came out. Then email viruses came out.

    Hey, what is wrong with trying something new... I suppose all those windows users should stick with their OS, just because there is a few problems. Perhaps this is not the correct place to ask this question, but don't blame him for trying something new.

    Perhaps the solution for Microsoft is to sell these modchips themselves. They are pretty expensive from what i hear, and microsoft just needs to sell them for enough so that they recuperate losses incurred on the initial sale.

    Of course, this may legitimise the mod-chips!

    You do realise that there is more than one other person on Slashdot? Different people are arguing different positions, not one person who can not make up their mind.

    I think, that like all similar situations, the small shops need to specialise. The problem with the chains, is that they can not do this, they need to cater to the Lowest Common Denominator.

    Microsoft didn't just pay to get new games for their console, they payed to keep games from Nintendo's and Sony's consoles. That is worth a bit as well...

    * The FPS and RTS genre's games are MUCH easier to play with mice. The dreamcast could accept a mouse -- can any others, and do the games work with it?

    I could never see mouse use taking off in the living room situation... it would just look strange (or stranger!)
