Ive tried several different linux distros on computers including my homebuilt Asus A7N8x-e deluxe AMD system and pentium 4 dell's at my lab. Ati 9600 level graphics on them.
None of them boot DSL properly. Mandrake Move no. Gentoo liveCD works, can install gentoo, but massive pains in getting the bootloader to work with drive due to the existance of SATA.
Your mileage will vary, until Linux gets better simpler support for hardware, especially with regards to X, ive yet to get X to run without having to abuse myself relearning conf files, don't even compare them to windows.
It still doesn't treat itself as a normal application, you cannot choose where it installs or stores its cache file.
This is a big problem for those of us who use a small fast drive for the windows and like to keep all of our applications, data, etc. on seperate partitions.
(I used 1.0 until its index bloated to about 3 gig filling out my windows OS partition)

except that at least via Yahoo! Games its $15 for any and all games in a 189 game catalog. not $15 per game.
So if you play a lot of the games in the catalog it is cheaper than buying them.
point clarified: a smart has less chances against a drunk SOB in a truck than a heavy duty vehicle.
(as a side note, why do americans seem to call it a smart car, when the name is simply smart. we generally talk about a ford or a chevy or a a geo metro, not a geo metro car)
You can easily spend 13k on the top of the line Power Mac if you include the price of displays.
A top of the line power mac well equipped: 4gb mem single 400gb sata drive Radeon 9650 23" display wireless everything
$5,926 before tax and shipping. I think this was the poster's point, the big time macs still cost big time money, so they could at least include the mighty mouse stock.
I've been wanting a system like launchcast, where everyone can rate everything. Then the system tracks people who rate similarily, mods up appropriately.
read it in the context of the parent, whose argument was something like: 'why can people get married and have sex before they can buy GTA/porn, etc.'
I'm not arguing that 16 is a good time to marry, but that the relative chronology is not at all stupid. i.e. sex in the context of marriage is something that people should be exposed to before sexploitation.
I am looking at the rules in terms of what they communicate to children and society, not in terms of their enforcement (which is poor for everything but marriage).
I certainly think a 16 year old getting married who is not ready will have a worse impact on that individual than an 18 yo playing gta.
On a societal level though, i'd rather have a society focused on people finding partners and marrying than playing computer games.
I think it is perfectly reasonable and possibly good that marriage and being able to marry comes before being able to buy lots of porn, or especially video games that let you run down/shoot, have sex with, and kill prostitutes.
Having sex within the context of a relationship with another human being should be more acessible than fantasy material about violence and sex at the same time.
I don't believe in censoring absurd the whole sex and violence thing, but I think it is perfectly reasonable to distinguish between different types of sex and sex appeal and different kinds of violence.
Nothing is perfect but goddamnit, I would much rather have 16 year olds thinking about marriage than thinking about how to sleep with the prostitute, shoot her in the head and get their money back.
By targetting the under 13 crowd, it is easier to pass legislature that people feel good about, it may also be far easier to enforce, giving them a foot in the door.
I also think that the bill is more of an anti-pedophile bill in reality, since it does not limit itself to commercial e-mails and is under-13 not under-18.
The police are a lot more interested in keeping pron folks away from under-13 than teens. It should be easier to put teeth onto this.
I used to work at a homeless shelter (in the US), a lot of the guys would get jobs at call-centers. Almost all of them tried to pull something like that.
That said, nobody I ever met would have pulled over 100...
Actually I think this is just a method of optimizing their cache and search capabilities.
You look for page, it loads page to you but also into its cache. This way google's cache is most up to date for the most used websites.
(This makes their webcelerydskfaslhf the best most likely besides having their huge caching capacity, it will also be fastest, now if we could just run sort of torrent system and make the whole net into a cluster)
It also lets google get all sorts of information of where people go AFTER a give google search, which is data about what the people really wanted in the first place.
Pretty much any Indian with the education to program spoke english before they programmed.
Many (i.e. millions) of Indians speak Egnlish natively. English is a global language and just because Indian English does not always soudn the same as American does not mean they cannot speak English.
I have to admit that often times my Indian peers at school know the language better than I do.
Hey somebody with mad google skills and a calculator, give me the cost of running an airbase in iraq over the next three years versus the cost of establishing a permanent moon base within three years?

One of the primary tenants of BeBox/BeOS was multiprocessor.
How can this be an in-depth review if they don't check it out on a multiprocessor system?
Also does it support hyperthreading?

look at the right hand side, it's Pc compatible
insightful?
funny, err maybe, but insightful?

I just wish half the news articles I read would realize that:
a. the program has to be modified to access the content
b. it took how long to find and add the content? (it can't be that easy)
Kdg
you totally misinterpretted what I wrote.

On the viewing end, 50% of RSS feeds that I have encounted don't work in some way.
E..g corrupted or non-existant names or constant bad links (not b/c of slashdotting)
Because clearly you'll believe?
My tablet is 7 months with 0 infections. About half the time it is on it has a net connection.
Desktop, same deal. Both Windows XP.
I haven't had a virus or worm since about 1993, it was a trojan in a nice DOS file manager called valet.
Now it would be worse if I were running a server, but if you are planning on running a server on a tablet, clearly you are not a typical user.
/. has devs? They must do a lot of "innovating".
Having spent the day looking at the R project and all its package, I think the Open Source R mops the floor with SAS products in terms of creativity.
I just find it odd to hear SAS management talk about creativity vs. says Google, which at the moment seems to be a very creative company.
The estimate that the g4 titanium from the X-files and lone gunmen, which works btw, will only go for $600-800.
I bet I could sell one wihtout that history for that price on ebay right now.

You can already purchase music via media player 10. Napster, Walmart come to mind.
Just because Windows comes with links to 3rd party music services does not mean microsoft is selling music.
