Well, I can't really speak for the OP but the old Dreamcast used discs that held more than a standard CD. This created one more hurdle to pirate games on the Dreamcast. Of course, it wasn't a huge enough hurdle because piracy on the Dreamcast was/is rampant. Theoretically, if Xbox 360 games took up more space than a standard DVD (DL?) then it could make piracy a bit harder for the ordinary user. That's just my guess of what he meant, though. I don't know.

It's possible that that was internally the plan and maybe even speculated upon by others very early on but back when the xbox 360 was coming out in the US in late 2005 I didn't hear much mention from Sony of the PS3 coming out a YEAR later. No, then it was hyped--"you COULD buy the 360 now OR you could wait for a much better system that's coming out in the spring!"

I think there's a lot of people who don't have HD-TV yet but expect to upgrade eventually. So if you have a choice between two game systems and one comes with a drive that will play great on HD-TV when you eventually upgrade, that leans you in that direction. That said, it may still not be that much of an advantage. It depends on how much the average gamer knows and is apprehensive about the format war between HD DVD and Blu Ray.

  15. Re:Utah of all places! on Utah Votes 'No' to Darwin's Critics · · Score: 1
There are two official statements that I know of that are sometimes referred to in regards to evolution.

These are both First Presidency statements making it about as official as it can get.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, basing its belief on divine revelation, ancient and modern, declares man to be the direct and lineal offspring of Deity. . . . Man is the child of God, formed in the divine image and endowed with divine attributes .

    Followed by:

Upon the fundamental doctrines of the Church we are all agreed. Our mission is to bear the message of the restored gospel to the world. Leave geology, biology, archaeology, and anthropology, no one of which has to do with the salvation of the souls of mankind, to scientific research, while we magnify our calling in the realm of the Church.

Recently, there has been a real push to focus our teaching in sunday school on the scriptures and manuals the church provides and to not deviate and go on tangents. This helps to prevent false doctrines being taught as the truth by well-meaning sunday school teachers who take a quote they read somewhere out of context but it also means that a lot of members never even hear either of these official statements. The first was made in 1909 and the second was made in 1931. I've heard a lot of speculation on how evolution could or couldn't be reconciled with those statements but nothing official. Basically, mormons believe that Adam was the "first man" and was created by God. Beyond that, we just really don't know.

  19. Crazy thought... on Sony Admits PS3 Delay Possible · · Score: 1

I know this doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I thought it'd be interesting if some in the consortium behind blu-ray are arguing and forcing the blu-ray back because they don't like how Sony's planning to sell an early drive (the PS3) for such a low price. Of course, this would be dumb financially because it would hurt them, too, but some people can just be spiteful and when hurt want to hurt back (even if it will hurt them, too).

Sure, in the end it may not be the ultimate in optimization but what early release game is?
