In a word, convenience. A good deal of the music I listen to isn't available on CD Baby and I don't have the hassle (gas money + time) of going to several music shops looking for that one particular used CD that I'm interested in. Is iTunes the greatest thing to happen to music? I don't think so. It does serve a purpose in a crunch though.

  11. It's called AirPort Express and AirTunes... on 5.1 Sound Card Delivers 3 Streams of iTunes · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not to let my inner fanboi take over, but I've been using multiple AirPort Express to do wireless whole-house audio for some time with great success. You don't even have to use iTunes to deliver the audio. I use Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba software. It is an elegant solution and one that can be done at a reasonable cost.

You can also burn the DRM music to CD in iTunes and then rip it into any format you want. It's a pain, but well worth doing. Not that I condone such behavior...

  12. It's all about timing... on Microsoft To Construct iPod/DS/PSP Killer · · Score: 1

The iPod has been extremely successful for Apple and it continues to gain market share. Microsoft is giving competitors an additional year to gain popularity, so I doubt very highly that Microsoft will be able to grab a decent chunk of the pie. It will be yet another failed all-in-one device. Unless of course it can cool my beverage, warm my feet, and allow me to play GTA while scuba diving in Bermuda.

What Dvorak fails to understand is that there will 'always' be open source software and that there is no way to completely thwart the efforts of the truly geeky. If Linux goes away, so beit, but many people will be there to fill in the gaps where Linus left off.

And for the love of God, if you are going to include multiplayer, do it right.
