  1. They weren't all awful. on 10 Wearable Habitats To Shelter You From the Apocalypse · · Score: 1

"The Vessel" looked good and seemed useful (I'd actually buy it), and the "JakPak" and "Refugewear" seemed useful, even though they look like crap. The rest were pretty lame, though.

Wow. I never thought of it that way. Sorry guys.

Someone call the Nobel committee and tell them that the deal's off, and the teamsters who were planning to start work on Monday to tell them that Christmas is going to suck again this year. Kids need to learn that.

You're a hard man, doing hard things, the_bard. I respect you for making this decision. Could you break it to 'lil Barak Obama though? I just keep thinking about how his eyes lit up when I told him my plan... and I don't have the heart.

We clearly don't know enough about the sun. It's too bad no one's thought of a way to take core samples...

I've got it. If we could only place some sort of "rig" on the sun, with a kind of "pipe"...we could pump solar material to Earth for further study.

I know what you're saying. The Sun's really, really hot. We could pump the solar plasma to a place that was already used to warmth. Like, say the Gulf coast of the US.

  9. Phony! on Futurama Voices Could Be Recast · · Score: 1

99 to 1 odds that this is in fact *another* Fox negotiating stunt. A few years back, when Family Guy went off the air, they held a "contest" to find a new animated sitcom. Like a moron I entered with a friend. Our submission wasn't epic or anything, but they quietly sent it back to us. No new animated show came from the contest and then Family Guy came back with American Dad bringing up the rear (Now THAT'S a sitcom title: "Bringing up the Rear". It could be a family friendly spinoff of Assy Mcgee). The whole contest was PHONY. YOU'RE A PHONY, FOX NETWORK! HEY GUYS... THIS NETWORK'S A PHONY! That said, I do a few voices, so let me review some old clips....

No, no NO! We need to take our extra citizens, freeze them with an alcohol-glycol mixture, stack them around the volcano, THEN blow it up with H-Bombs. After that, we can trap their souls and brainwash them with movies to believe anything we want them to. They then get reincarnated, and the whole human race moves in whichever direction we choose. We're geeks, so we can brainwash them with ideas like "space travel is good" and "Knowledge wants to be free", along with some good stuff about geeks being the master race. Hell, this technique worked before, when it was used for Evil...

I wonder if this means that Hasborg will be going after the people who publish D&D stuff under copyright instead of the GSL next. As it stands, game rules can't be copyrighted any more than a math equation can.

I know I'm probably an idiot for not RTFA, but the only things they could be going after under current law would be the board design, logos and such. If they're trying to cast a broader net, that could set some far reaching precedents.

Do you get paid for writing your resume, or getting an artist's portfolio together too? People said the same things about the WotC Setting search a few years back, and even though I didn't win the contest, I placed in the top 11, which was enough to get me my first book deal and to give me a career in writing. Don't be so quick to be cynical about this kind of contest. Or, you know, do, and those who are willing to work for an opportunity won't have as many people to compete against.

In fact, in my last game group, I was the only one who didn't work in some form of IT until the very end of my time with them. We had a credit union guy, two low-level guys, and even a NASDAQ guy for a while. When we got more players it evened out a bit, with a middle management guy, an insurance guy, and a 3d artist.
