it reminds me of itunes 2.0, i think that was the blue icon? i was curious if it would change form green since it has been green from 5.0 on.
happened to notice requirements (for os x) are up to 10.3.9, whereas itunes 6 only required 10.2.8.
i've got it determining gapless playback right now, it's been going for ages, but thats what happens with 30K+ songs. can only imaging how long finding missing artwork will take, but thank god that feature is there, as finding artwork is the bane of my music playing existence (despite all the programs that help do it).
i must admit to being excited about these products, i am actually thinking of replacing my second generation ipod for the first time. and i suddenly find my lack of a mac with a remote to be of the upmost detriment.. gotta get out of this RDF.
you should really check the crash logs and see why this is happening. 1 kernel panic a month is not normal by any stretch of the imagination. between my mac at home and the ones i administer at work, there is one that regularly has a kernel panic. low and behold it was bad ram.
any regular bad behavior needs to be investigated.
i'm irked about this as well. but i also have to wonder if maybe there are some features that are under wraps for now. i seem to think that i heard that some features weren't being shown. i certainly hope there is a new finder. after tiger i remember thinking "ok, this will be a great os, but more for developers then end users." but the features shown today, im not anti, but i cant really get behind them all that much either, except network spotlight and multiuser ical.
but for the first time, i think apple is hiding some features till later, i can't remember them ever doing that before, i just have a feeling.. or rather a hope.
well, that was pretty decent, but kind of strange, yes new powerbooks were to be expected, but now the imacs are faster then the low and midrange powermacs.. i'm assuming in a few weeks we'll see them all go quad core..
the way i imagine it'll have to go down is like this, single core for ibooks, dual core for powerbooks. as we know, most pro apps aren't anywhere near being a universal binary. that being said, a dual core processor is going to be so many times faster then the current powerbooks, i would expect rosetta to emulate pro apps at least at the current performance of todays powerbooks, if not maybe a little faster?
at least then, you could order a powerbook today, with maybe a 5% increase in speed (in comparison to the app running native on a ppc powerbook) but you'd know in the future that you would be getting a _huge_ increase in speed.
this is the only way i can imagine it going down. i've never seen rosetta in action, and i know they claim 80% of native speeds, but i just can't imagine that.. but heck, if that were true, then a dual core yonah powerbook running photoshop in emulation would be faster then todays top of the line powerbook, or at least darn close.
The new search is kinda snazzy, type a few letters and you get a little bar that lets you narrow it down by all, music, audiobooks, pod casts, videos, booklets, etc etc, certainly helpful for those with large catalogs
one of the measures to prevent counterfitting is to actually make the ink never dry.. this is true.. take a kleenex or something and rub it against any bill,, some ink will come off.. the ink is especially tailored to not dry completely
1. that sounds like hardware that is ages old, ever since (i believe) around the 9600, apple towers have been an absolute _breeze_ to get around inside of.. with the b&w g3's and g4's you just lift a latch and the whole motherboard is laying there in front of you, exposed to whatever you want, while all the drives sit in the box easy to access.. the g5's are a bit more difficult, but even still, it too is just a latch and a plastic panel to access everything inside.. they really are soundly designed internally.
2. hahaha.. well, yes, youre right, sort of.. many apps have both mac versions and windows versions.. some offer cross platform upgrades (many do not saldy).. but yes, you can run windows apps on a mac, via windows.. in emulation.. it ain't pretty but its tolerable.. but seriously, its a whole different platform, Power, not x86.. i mean really.. common.
yeh, except no. os 10.3 was 7(letter)nn. for example, 10.3.8 is 7U16. the first number goes up one for every major os release (as i recall, i dont have older versions of the OS around to check). the letter changes with every 10.2(3, 4).x release.. the last two digits (or 3) are more in accordance to the build.
i know im not making the most sense with this, but i just woke up
that is, of course, assuming, people only buy computers to play games. whilst certainly a concearn to some, one could look at what is available, and determine if that will be enough to satiate their needs.
maybe though, the 20% have already taken the games and whatever into account, and still plan on switching, whereas the 80% decided they couldn't do without them, or the ones which are available.
the only downside to movie apple apps out of the application menu and into a submenu or somewhere else, is that softwareupdate won't recognize that they are installed, and therefor, not alert you to updated versions.
up until today i had just stuck with itunes 4.0 so i could keep doing just that, but all the new features of 4.5 convinced me to upgrade (that and the incompatibility of the music library now)..
so now my solution is Sharepoints. i created a sharepoint of my music collection at home, copied the actual library files to my work computer, mount my music sharepoint, and voila..
while it sounds like a hassle, it really isn't that bad, in itunes 4 you'd press cmd-k to connect to your itunes library at home, now you just cmd-k in the finder to do it..
i suspect it is do to you suspecting this has anything to do with apple. which it doesn't.

this also has all of jack to do with apple. they are in no way related to the contest other than it being the platform the app is developed for.
mmm, apple jack.

apples page on leopard is up here
and the mac pros are here
i noticed nothing was said about the finder.. shame.
this would also exlude their own web sales, which surely makes up a fairly decent percentage of sales for them.
considering it runs on intel...
i've read fairly regularly on this site that it takes a good 20 minutes to copy a 16 meg file!
it's not really $99 a month is it? isn't it really $99 a YEAR?
well, that was pretty decent, but kind of strange, yes new powerbooks were to be expected, but now the imacs are faster then the low and midrange powermacs.. i'm assuming in a few weeks we'll see them all go quad core..
i wonder how long till ibooks and mini's

augh, _still_ green, how many version till we get a new color?

yeah, i'm not too sure about this one either..
but more pressing, the itunes note is still green?!
we've had blue. and purple, and i forget what else.. i figured at least a white or a silver..

of course its probably neither.
you might want to check out OCS Smart Hacks it'll allow you to resize windows from any corner, and tear off menus, among other things
the only downside to movie apple apps out of the application menu and into a submenu or somewhere else, is that softwareupdate won't recognize that they are installed, and therefor, not alert you to updated versions.
silliness, but true for now.
that just reminded me of one of my favorite sayings..
You take 4 gallons of ice cream and 1 gallon of shit, what do you get?
5 gallons of cold shit.

it is cntrl + click, not cmd.
