I like this comment:
Gaim displays my own AIM account in my buddy list. This is not very useful, as I don't send instant messages to myself.
Well then hotshot, try not adding your OWN name to your buddy list. GAIM just imports your aim buddy list, it doesn't add anything by itself.
Chat windows have a "Send" button, which will slow some people down by misleading them into thinking that they need to click the button every time they type something, instead of pressing Enter.
Uh..Ok. And I guess gaim shouldn't have buttons text formatting because you can use html tags. And web browsers shouldn't have a back button because you can use backspace
The login screen uses the term "reboot". (My shoes are fine as they are, thanks.)
Oh, your a clever one.
In Ubuntu, telling the computer to shut down takes me about 35 seconds: choose "Log Out", wait about 25 seconds for the logout process, then click "Shut Down" and confirm it in an alert.
Now this is just a flat out lie. Ubuntu has a shutdown option when you hit "log-out". You don't have to go back out to gdm at all.
Arch Linux is a fun distro. It was great when I was dual booting between linux and windows and needed something exciting. I even used it for several months from.5 -.6.
The biggest problem I used it were the stability of packages, and the dependency checks. It is no where near even Debian Unstable in stability, and the dependency checking leaves much to be desired.
There is nothing wrong with Arch Linux. It's a fun, cutting-edge, enthuisiest distro. However, now that I use linux full time, I would guess that Ubuntu will be the distro of 2005:)
I love how Eugenia claims linux isn't ready for the desktop and then uses a distro like Arch. That being said, I still greatly respect Eugenia, except for her strange comments on Arch Linux (Pacman -S simpler to use than apt-get install?)
Actually there is a taskbar notification in gnome 2.10. Its not quite exactly like windows, but the text on the IM window on the taskbar turns bold. Not flashy, but it does the trick.
Someone else may have mentioned this, but Risk 2210AD is another genius game from Avalon Hill. I never knew how boring the orginal risk was until I played this far better remake.
Having used gnome 2.92 in Ubuntu Hoary, I have to say the best new feature is the volume control. The old one had way to much information, the new one is amazing. It's hard to describe, but it's much better than the old one.
It may not seem like a big deal. But gnome currently only has a mediocre volume control. In the next release it will have the best volume control I have ever used on any platform.
Maybe because you asked slashdot instead of hardware companies? :P
In a galaxy far, far away a long time ago.
You can't argue with history. noobs
I have really been looking forward to this release!
noob beats woot anyday of the week
Wow! A broken keyboard! I am sure this will sell like hotcakes.
Whats a BBS?
"Hey! There is this really good show that just came out! You should download it off bittorrent too!"
Sam leaps into the Enterprise D as Commander Riker and must save the relationship between him and Troi
:)
Oh wait..that was the good show with Scott Bakula
Actually...I never read the article ;)
How many of you are planning to skip at least part of your workday on the first two days?"
I know 4pm tickets are cheaper...but cmon!
No thanks. I already have one of these http://www.talics.de/wp-content/images/powerbook.j pg
an ad with lollerskates.
It's not that big of a suprise...Mandrake was #1 on distrowatch for a long time.
Something else froze today too!

KDE is already at 3.4, but Gnome is only at 2.1!

I wonder if Ati users will have to wait another 6 months to get 6.8.2 support.
OR they could have simply ran netbsd on the orginal hardware :D

Considering I just beat half-life 2 and doom3 using linux. I would have to disagree with you.
