As those who prescribe narcotics already know, opioids when combined with acetaminophen are considered Schedule III where as those without (like oxycodone, oxycontin, morphine, dilaudid, etc.) are considered Schedule II. Many physicians are uncomfortable with prescribing Schedule II medications. Schedule II medications, as per the Controlled Substances Act are considered to have a higher abuse potential. Prescriptions are limited to a 30 day supply and any refill (given 1 month at a time) requires a doctor's appointment. Schedule III drugs such as Norco and Vicodin may be refilled up to five times within a six month period.

I gave money to a food bank yesterday even though I have no friends or acquaintances who are unable to provide their own food. And should we quit giving money for HIV research? I've never had a friend with HIV and it affects only an extremely small minority of people in the United States. Cystic fibrosis is a devastating disease that keeps kids in the hospital for inordinate amounts of time before they succumb to it in their 20s or 30s. Imagine living your whole life as a kid and teen knowing your life would be cut so short. CF is worthy of our research.

  16. Re:This isn't, sadly, unfair... on Prosthetic-Limbed Runner Disqualified from Olympic Games · · Score: 1

You're wrong. The most common inhaler for an asthmatic is albuterol which is in the class of beta-agonists. Beta agonists speed up the heart rate, they don't slow it down. This is why you do not give beta-blockers (metoprolol, atenolol - for high blood pressure, they also directly slow down the heart) to patients with severe asthma because even though there are brands that are specific to the beta-1 receptor (good for high blood pressure), they can interact with the beta-2 receptor (which constricts your bronchioles when blocked and dilates it (good) when agonizing it) and block it, instead of agonizing it, thus worsening asthma.
