    if a meteor hit the earth causing catastrophic damage where most life died, i wont want to be protected in a bunker only to come out and see a dead planet, what then? slowly starve to death because the environment is ruined, or die quickly from a poisoned atmosphere? living in a sterile bubble wont be a life it would be a prison sentence

    i am trying to xorg's X with Nvidia's driver compiled in to give me screen resolution that is somewhere close to halfway in-between 800x600 and 1024x768 say maybe in the 9XXx6XX or 9XXx7XX range, i once had an old Voodoo3 card that gave me an in-between resolution when i was using Win98 years ago, i have since abandoned MS-Windows in favor of GNU/Linux... anyone ever try this?

    i am semi retired, but i still enjoy working part time for fun and profit. i work with a friend of mine that does finish/trim carpentry about 80 miles away and i can not affored to drive it everyday, so i boing an army cot & etc. and and camp out in one of the unfinished apartments (with plumbing & electric). drive up on a monday morning and back home thursday evening - four days on three days off.

    you can get the fingerprint of every type of material in the known universe and use it for lots of different applications from hunting for gold and other metals, to finding the optimum soil conditions for growing vegetables, to finding cancer in humans (maybe - i hope)

    i can see lots of good this can do...

    Star Treck - sounds like the tricorder device Spock used to use analizing the local environment when they land on some strange planet...
