i had terrible luck fiddleing with Winmodems when i did use them with Linux, so i bought a external serial 56k dialup modem that worked great with Linux and did seem slightly faster than an internal PCI softmodem...

KDE is modular, i can get a workable KDE desktop with just arts, kde-base,kde-libs, kde-artwork, & QT...
if you already have mozilla/firefox & thunderbird, OpenOffice, then why install redundant apps, KDE is nice but too many people forget it is modular and can be made leaner, but if you want the whole kitchen sink slam all the packages in

i bought a 160 gig maxtor harddrive from staples that included a 35 dollar rebate, this was just after christmas (early January), i have yet to see it, i did see Staples spend a bunch on marketing these rebates in television commercials, seems to me that if staples would spend less on television advertising then they could afford to hire more manpower to handle these rebates...
RE: The big deal is that they are actually getting some real useage out of Apple's hardware.
i ask what is available for Linux on PPC that is not available for Linux on an x86?
yeah.........right, Linux runs on lots of different types of computers: http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/cd-images/debian-weekly/ torrents/
considering the price of a new G5 desktop i doubt it will change too much (there will be a few though), and the mac mini is not very upgradable hardware wise, and ix86 has a lot of bang for the buck & with x86_64 on the scene do you really think all the Linux users are going to dump x86? when was the last time you seen PPC hardare for sale at newegg or tigerdirect or zipzoomfly???
