I am wondering if they are comparing apples to apples on that one. If they took their fresh, clean, off the shell acer laptop and compared it to a fresh, clean, off the shell toshiba laptop, its not a fair comparison.

the toshiba will be filled with crapware that bogs down startup. if its a fresh windows install, this wouldnt be the case.

  3. Come from people who use the engine.. on Epic Opens Counterclaim Against Silicon Knights · · Score: 1, Informative

I have some friends that work for a company that are working on a game with the unreal 3 engine. All I have heard is how horrible the support is. Also when they need to do something that the engine doesnt support, they end up writing this hack code to get it to work. Then when they get an update (since the engine is still in development), it will break what they made and they have to go back in there and rewrite it. It just sounds like a massive cluster fuck.

  4. console games vs pc games on PC Gaming's Future Evolution · · Score: 0

I see a sharp decline in PC gaming and I feel it has nothing to do with Piracy. Back in the day, it was a given that PC games would always be better graphically than console games. But for the first time, people can get some great looking games on consoles. Then they can pop that into their 50+ inch HDTVs and things will look great.

But I think one of the main reasons is that people want to play games. There is no doubt about that. But what they do not want to do is drop $2000 on a PC only for it to be out dated in a 6 months. They buy one console and they never have to worry about things not working, or the frame rate going to shit, or anything like that. You turn it on and it just works.

There will always be that market(which im a part of) that would rather play games on the PC. But there is a growing market of people who dont want to bother with getting a $2000 pc to play games. Its easier for them to just get a ps3/360/wii and just turn it on.

  6. Re:As a EU foreigner living in the UK... on Making Your Company More Visible at a Job Fair? · · Score: 1

I think you are getting confused. There are more reasons for companies not wanting to hire someone who isnt a citizen other than some hick screaming 'DAMN FOREEENERS TOOK OUR JOBBBSSS!!!'. Ive recently graduated and I definitely say that a good 50% of the companies around the campus simply CANNOT hiring foriegn people since the work they do is government(DOD) related. But there are lots of language barriers to get over as well. I knew someone in college who was extremely intelligent when it came to programming. However, no one could understand a word he said. Nothing against him, but if a boss cant understand him, what are you going to do?

All that being said, I have a sister that has moved out of the country to the EU. And it was HELL for her to get a job. Once she got married over there, it was fine. But in Ireland, she had to jump through hoops and hoops and hoops for a company to even consider hiring her. So please keep in mind that its alittle more than just 'DAMN RACISTS!'

There are many other portable video players out there that they could use. Nintendo is finally doing what everyone has been trying to do for a really long time now. And that is tap into the 'casual market'. Just last night, I saw a DS commercial of a mom hanging out in the minivan waiting for her kids to get out of class and she was play a DS. And it was a game that looked similar to Brain Age. Just a small little game that people will pick up and play with for alittle bit and then drop it until they are bored again.

The hardcore market is a static market for the most part. Of course it will grow, but when you tap into a new market, the growth is a lot more noticable.

I always felt there would come a time that if someone stole your 'virtual item', they could be arrested for stealing. This will be one more step towards reaching that goal. Because now this is something you would pay taxes on. But how does one decide how much to tax? Is it considered 'investing' if you decide to buy all the WoW gold you can and then raise the price of it when you resell it? Because in all reality, Blizzard can just change the amount of gold you have in their database and poof its gone. And how do you handle hacks and what not? Will that become illegal if you sold 'gold' that you achived through hacking?
