How many consoles have we gone through that had problems on release? Everything from the DS Lite cracking, to the xbox controllers being the size of a small gorilla, to the xbox360 over heating, to faulting dvd roms of the ps2. Its almost at the point where its guaranteed to have a flaw in it. And i feel worse for people who buy it on ebay at an extra $500/pop.
And with all these horrid rumors of design flaws with the ps3, its more of a reason to just wait it out. Same with the Wii. I refuse to believe that 6 months down the line, they are going to come up with a much more accurate wiimote than the have now.
Another option parents have to the ESRB is the whole 'be a parent option'. You know, instead of making your xbox 360 the baby sitter, try sitting down and paying attention to what you child plays. And if you see something that conflicts with your moral/religious/any other beliefs, you just shut it off.
'The controller is innovative but it remains to be seen how innovative your shoulder will feel after an hour's play.'
People dont seem to realise that you arent going to be cocking your whole arm back and exert enough force to chop a tree down. There are plenty of gameplay videos, including videos of Madden, where its a simple snap of the wrist in order to pass.
It does not take weeks or months to get a warrant. And I'm sure if you went to any judge and say 'This man is suspected of terrorist activities and here is our proof of reasoning' they will get their warrant. Why does this need to happen without the warrant? Have they found the warrant hinders their ability to conduct their investigations? Has anyone turned around and said 'holy shit! we could have stopped this terrorist plot had we been able to search him WITHOUT a warrant. But that damn judge just took his time on it and he got away! No one seems to be asking these simple questions. No one of importance aatleast.
Anything that has to do with 'online' and a people playing/working together has been for the most part sucessful.
Basic technology is a good example. At first it was the pagers that allowed you to know when someone wanted to talk to you. And when you friend got a page it was 'I NEED A PHONE! QUICK! SOMEONE NEEDS TO GET AHOLD OF ME!'. Then cellphones came along and now you can talk to anyone from anywhere. Now a days, its hard to find someone who doesnt have a cell phone. Everyone wants to be connected to everyone else.
Its also hard to find someone who doesnt have AIM/MSN/GTALK(or gchat? i forget)/irc/any other social thing to get ahold of them.
MMO's have taken off like crazy. And ever since quake1 came out, you were a fool not to include multiplayer.
No one likes being by themselves. They like companionship. They like someone else being there with them.
So you have your 'home' time. Then you have your work time (for real world people, this is 40+ hours a week). And then you want to toss in a '3rd place' time? How much time do you have left?
I mean, sure its great when you are 16 and your 'home time' will consist of playing sports with some kids down the street or watching tv (or video games in this case), your 'work time' is at max 15-20 hours a week, then you have all the time in the world to play an mmo. No need to worry about cleaning or making dinner. Mom has that covered.
But if you arent 16, you work 40+ hours a week, have to come home and make dinner (or go run to the store first to buy it),clean, relax for a bit, toss in a significant other or a child or two, and your mmo time is nearing zero.
We have enough busy things in this world to toss in a 'Third world'.
Ever since someone pressed forward, down, forward + low punch and did Sub Zero's fatality in Mortal Kombat 1, people have been playing video games on todays violence. Then gas was dumped on the with GTA and all its little buddies coming out after it. And its a convenient thought that someone who plays those games commits violent crimes.
But here is the reality of the situation. Fucked up crimes were happening before video games. They are going to happen with video games. And guess what? They are going to happen (god forbid) after video games.
I feel this is FAR from a Golden Age. There hasnt been that 'feeling of excitement' in a game in a very long time. I feel the PS1 was the last time I was truely 'Wowed'. Genres were created. Games were fun. Games were scary. Stories were epic. With the exception of the MMO worlds, what genres have been created? All we have been introduced to lately has been prettier graphics and better physics. Unfortunately the cost of games have sky rocketed (see $600 ps3, $70 games) so high that getting a new company with a fresh idea started up is extremely difficult.
This is the age of redundancy in my eyes. Madden 200(x), Quake 4, Half life 2(episodes 1, 2), , zelda after zelda, mario after mario, a suck it for all its worth star wars game, suck it for all its worth cartoon based game, tekken 9,000,000, street fighter 2 9,000,000 edition.
Of course, there is the DS and the upcoming wii that will hopefully rattler some heads into the land of innovation. Until then, everyone is just going to keep playing WoW.
All this interview does is feed that guys ego, which probably why he cheats in the first place. I never understood the reason for cheating other than to boost your own childish ego. No matter how much this guy wants to say it, it gives you an unfair advantage. Its not part of the original game design. The people he is playing with are playing by the games rules, not his hacked xbox rules.
Besides, I never saw the point in cheating. If I can cheat, say Auto Aim, why not see through walls? While I'm at it, why not have unlimited ammo? Why not have a bot control my character for me? Before you know it, I'm not even playing the game anymore.
Its always great when people see problem as piracy, and not the fact that almost every game just isnt good. Wow is a great example. It was a game that was done properly, and now it holds everyones interest. If a game is only going to hold me interest for 2 weeks and they want $50 or up to $65 for a game, I'm not going to buy it. More so, companies are more concerned with added some amazing physics into the game and forgetting about the story/gameplay. This is what plagues hollywood right now. Also, its not 'World of Warcrafts subscription based nature'. Thats every MMO's subscription based nature.
Im getting tired of the same old fashion nerds and dwarves MMO's. I was extremely excited when i heard that there is a warhammer mmo coming out, then i wanted to cry when i found out that its not warhammer 40k:(.
Interesting to see that considering, according to the related article posted above, that 12,000 of them were stolen that were supposed to make their way to europe. They were supposed to be part of the 200,000 DS Lites sold at launch.
But in the grand scheme of things, 12,000 does not make a dent in 5,000,000.
Im not sure if this will be what defines 'next gen'.
One reason is where is the line drawn between hardcore and casual? its not a black and white world folks. I consider myself a casual gamer because I play for about 2 hours a day. Ask my girlfriend though, and Im a hardcore gamer. Ask my other friends who play WoW all day, and im casual. So does that mean people like me will define it? Or people playing brain teaser will define it? There has to have a line drawn somewhere.
Another reason is that this is not something that will define next gen. Or atleast I hope it doesnt. If anything, it should be considered another market to tap. Just like kids games like harry potter are pumped out to appeal to that market, they should also be pumping out games that people can pick up and put down in about 15 minutes. But to say its 'the real next gen' is just saying its black and white world.
When firefox came out, there werent any problems with it at all. Pops wouldnt happen as often. No 'ZOMG ACTIVEX WILL EAT YOUR FACE' or anything like that. But mostly because 95% of all people were using IE and firefox was about 2%. Now that firefox is more popular, people have found ways around it. Firefox is still great and they do a great job at patching it up (much better than IE). But the Macs are in the same boat. Its a small market right now, but as they get more popular, there will be viruses and exploits for it just like windows.
The only argument is will they fix it faster than microsoft does?
Im not going to say that cell phones dont cause distractions while driving. But where is the line of concern drawn? I need to take my eyes of the road in order to change my CDs or the radio station. Or how about the nice people with stereo systems so loud it shakes the windows of your house. There is a small noise ordinance rule for that, but nothing major. Girls putting on make up, combing hair, getting ready, etc. Its unfair to just point out cell phone users and accidents. A line needs to be drawn somewhere if you are going to make that argument.
The potential solution, tested at an experimental reactor in San Diego, US, could make the next generation of fusion reactors more efficient, saving hundreds of millions of euros a year."
You mean all that mental training they did to become extremely good at videos games has gone to waste?? Now you get to join the ranks of the college football player who shot out his back while earning his "Journalism degree"

I first read it as 'Indiana Jones in China Censors". Damn my simple brain.

It will save even more in US dollars.
But could the Wii posts end? Im really growing tired of every jackass coming up with a 'Wii' pun and getting 5 points for it.
You mean all that mental training they did to become extremely good at videos games has gone to waste?? Now you get to join the ranks of the college football player who shot out his back while earning his "Journalism degree"
It will either be based off the harry potter license, LOTR license, or whatever other movie license they can get their slave driving hands on.
I wish i could fix my typo and score a 5
I just wont go to their concerts. Just like the more they jack the prices of CDs up, the less Im going to buy them.
"Am I the only one left with a daytime job?"
:(.
i wish.
Or did only 2 US schools rank in the top 51? (UCF Ranked 51st and I graduated from there,so I say top 51 :P )
