  2. Hypocrit on Bjarne Stroustrup On Educating Software Developers · · Score: 2, Interesting

Having taken a class from him, I cannot honestly respect any feelings he has about education. The man is hands down the worst professors I have ever had, He has no concept of teaching, he rather just rambles in class and expects the students to know everything. In a intro level CS class, he expected every student to be proficient in C++, event though in Texas, the high school CS curriculum is entirely JAVA (which isnt a good thing, but it is the way it is). While I agree with what he says, I do not support him even talking about education. If he were not the creator of C++ he would not have a job in Acedamia.

  3. Pot, meet Kettle on Stroustrup Says C++ Education Needs To Improve · · Score: 1

This is literally the pot calling the kettle black. Stroustrup is absolutely horrible at teaching C++ to beginners. So much so, that at Texas A&M, where he is a professor, he is not allowed to teach lower level classes on his own, because all of his students leave unprepared for the next courses. He claimed to fear not being able to teach the teachers fast enough, In reality, teachers learning the language makes them a better teacher. He has no clue what its like to learn the language, because he never learned it. I say this having learned a language from a teacher who was learning it at the same time. If the teacher is willing to actively learn it, it works. And just because you know it better than anyone Bjarne, doesn't mean you can teach worth a damn.

  9. Education on NASA Launches Educational Website · · Score: 1

I find it interesting that NASA is trying to do all this education stuf, yet they cut their biggest educational program, Summer Internships. You can still do an internship at NASA, but they have stopped paying interns, so nobody will work for them. I spent the last to summers doing an unpaid internship at NASA's JSC being told that this summer I would be paid. So their choice to spend money developing this educational website is rather annoying, Here's and idea, hire summer interns to develop this website, that would have killed to birds with one stone in the education department.
