This is crazy. My response to the article is going to be to immediately start illegally downloading albums in protest.... of course I'm going to post as an anonymous coward so the RIAA doesn't read this post and sue me.
Ya man, I'm all with you on being judemental about those sports fanatics. I mean it's a good thing you didn't post that on a website full of people who obssess over details about things that would be seen by other people as weird.
We need nothing more than what we already have. When the kid whips out the power glove in The Wizard, that is one of the most bad ass moments in all of cinematic history. What more could you possibly want out of motion detection than that?
I've had the exact same experiance. Try calling 911 to report an accident while it's raining in Los Angeles (the stories about people not being able to drive in the rain and an understatement) Last time I tried I got a busy signal, call again and hung up after being on hold for 5 minutes. Seems like a little FUD to me.
I would HIGHLY recommend http://1and1.com/ for your hosting needs. I've had 5 or 6 domains registered there under a couple accounts with different hosting plans and have had nothing but excellent service. They've got both linux and microsoft hosting plans, dirt cheap prices and lots of storage space and monthly transfer for the price, plus great custom service.
(and it you want to switch over let me know and you can say you heard about it from me so I get a little $$ =)
No one would be able to afford cable if there were no commercials. With the costs of producing the number of hours of cable television that is on every week commercials are a necessary evil.
It's a shame that the film makers were not even able to make an interesting preview with such a rich topic. There is a lot of potential here to make a good film but I would have to say that it would work much better as a character profile rather than focusing on the acctivity as much itself, this being that all the activity is, is people sitting in front of computer screens which in and of itself is not very visually stimulating. Also, the fact that the preview is slow moving does not speak well for how well the full length version would be at holding someones attention.
Again, interesting topic but the documentary makers seem to have dropped the ball on this one (don't even get me started on the crappy picture in picture effect their trying to get to work)
If you think a simple hard drive is impressive, check out the bottom of the article where it describes his other project
Thomas is a 30-year pioneer whose projects include a computer with a 3D display, instant response, able to run every available OS and application simultaneously, virtually no power consumption or moving parts and complete security - and whose physical component is about the size of a pack of playing cards.
Now that makes a 1.2 Petabyte Hard Drive in 4 years almost believeable!
More inportantly with LA, what will I do when work gets slow in the afternoon if I can't watch the car chases on the news. Actuall work? I sure hope not.
In addition to a hurricane i would imagine something of this magnitude would be a favorite target of terrorist or anyone looking to make a point. Just look at the movie Contact for proof of that.
Going back in time, it can't possibly be as uncomftorable as holding onto the base of an atari 2600 controller....
Of course it's only been a couple hours since I last played a game on that system. The quality of the games still plays a huge role in it's acceptance.
You make it sound as if the fact that their animation isn't the best ever it hurts the show. I think tv shows like much of the adult swim lineup, south park, ect. just go to show how little flashy graphics or expensive special effects matter to a show. The writing and humor is what people turn in for, not the detail to which the main character is drawn.
If I'm not mistanken it looks like these statistics are based on just the w3school's website. I think it is a little narrow minded to base how firefox is doing on just that site. Google maybe, but that's a whole different story.
If a single site is enough for you, then based on my personal site, I'd like to point out that firefox has gone from a 5% share a year ago to a 60% share, well ahead of IE's 35%.
It's great to think of it that way. At this job I've gotten paid to...
Surf the internet
Talk with coworkers
Watch TV
Sleep
Go to 7-11
Go shopping
Play Darts
Rollerblade in the parking lot
Duck out back to play basketball
Listen to music
Play video games
and I remember something about acctual work....
I'm not sure that I think doing away with textbooks in exchange for all digital articles is such a good idea.
It seems that people have the mindset that when they are behind a computer screen to just scan over text rather than reading it thourgly.
I know personally if I had to do readings for school on a computer screen I would retain much less knowledge than if I was reading out of a book. Do other people feel the same way about this?
Ya, I'd be worried about the press publishing my name too because then people could log onto myspace and learn even more about Shaun and Saverio

Will I still be able to google for pr0n?

So does this mean Charlton Heston would have already died of old age by the time he reached the Planet of the Apes?
Mod up parent.

Let's not forget about it stealing the CPU. Until they fix the glitch that suddently makes it take up 100% of my CPU i'll stay with Opera.
It hurts to leave Firefox but I just can't work when it randomly brings my computer to a screeching hault.
Well, past censorship acts may have been for political reasons, but I'm guessing Don and Mike were blocked mainly because they suck.
ps. as for irony, the work I have to type in to post is 'disarm'

They should go for it, as it worked so well for http://www.iwon.com/

So does that mean I can use this new service as a new way to trash and insult anything on Amzaon connect to Jack Thompson or not?
Another /. user taking any advantage to any advantage they can to trash Microsoft.
Bad software is just that. bad software. You think the programmer would have been incapable of making a glitch if he was writing code for Linux?
Yup, DV has a 3 to 1 compression on it.
Personally I go with DVD quality pr0n if you're looking for high quality. You could get about 25 minutes on a 1 GB stick

I wonder if Ford and Microsoft will drop WinFS from the car they have in the works in order to get it out before GM. http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/ 03/1735254&tid=109&tid=126&tid=137/
